Chapter 872 Just in Case
Chapter 872 Just in Case
Rita couldn't help but glance at the professor on stage, who was now looking at Evan too.
Luckily, the professor was pretty chill and didn't lose his cool. "Evan, if you need to say something, do it after class. Don't interrupt."
"Got it," Evan said, then walked over to Rita and stared at Zoey, who was sitting next to her.
Zoey, always the considerate one, immediately stood up and offered her seat to Evan. "Here, Evan, take my seat."
Evan plopped down next to Rita and whispered, "Why haven't you added me on Facebook yet?"
Everyone's eyes were on them, making Rita want to crawl under the table. "I didn't bring my phone. I was just about to ask Zoey to reply for me when you showed up."
Evan asked, "Why didn't you bring your phone?"
Rita replied, "It's class time. I wanted to focus."
Evan pressed on, "You really didn't bring it? It's not that you don't want to add me?"
Rita sighed. "Do you want to search me to see if I'm lying?"
Evan shook his head. "No need. Just grab your phone after class and add me ASAP. I need to tell you something."
Rita asked, "What is it?"
Evan suddenly got serious. "Focus on the lecture. Add me after class, and I'll tell you then." With that, he got up and left.
Even after he left, everyone was still staring at Rita.
Rita thought, 'Evan really doesn't think about the consequences. He never gets embarrassed.'
Zoey sat back down next to Rita, grinning. "Rita, you said your engagement to Evan was arranged by your family, but it seems like he has feelings for you. The way he looked at you just now was so gentle."
Rita said, "Pay attention to the lecture. Stop talking about irrelevant stuff."
Zoey replied, "He's your fiancé. How is he irrelevant?"
Rita insisted, "Just listen to the lecture."
Zoey wanted to say more but got distracted by a message in another Facebook group.
Someone in the group wrote: [OMG, Evan just came to our classroom to find Rita and asked why she hadn't added him on Facebook. Did she delete him out of anger?]
Another person immediately chimed in: [This is hilarious. I never thought the arrogant Evan would have a day like this. He looked so pitiful and cute when he came to find Rita.]
Another person asked: [Is that true?]
Someone quickly posted a photo they had just secretly taken as evidence: [These two are acting like they're in a romance novel or something.]
The conversation in the group got more and more lively, and Zoey joined in, completely ignoring the professor's lecture.
After class, Rita rushed back to her dorm and immediately added Evan on Facebook.
As soon as she did, Evan quickly sent a message: [I heard the theme song of that popular show was written and composed by you?]
Rita responded: [Yeah, what's up?]
Evan: [That song is topping all the major music platforms. You must have made quite a bit from it.]
Rita replied: [Yeah. Is that what you wanted to talk to me about?]
After a bit, Evan sent another message: [The song you wrote for my game is blowing up online. Even folks who don't play the game are singing it. And now, the theme song for that hit show is even more popular than the show itself. Both of the top songs on the charts are yours. Rita, think about your worth.]
Rita hadn't realized how many people loved her songs. It was pretty awesome hearing her music everywhere.
Rita: [I didn't think about it that much. I just want to study hard and make money through music.]
Evan: [Come out and have dinner with me tonight. I want to talk to you about this.]
Rita agreed: [Okay.]
Evan: [Come out now. I'm waiting for you at the south gate.]
Rita replied: [Okay.]
Knowing how valuable Evan's time was, Rita didn't even bother changing. She grabbed a jacket and was ready to go.
Zoey asked, "Rita, did you add Evan on Facebook? What did you two talk about? Are you going on a date?"
Rita replied, "He wants to talk to me about work."
Zoey said, "You fool, he's just using that as an excuse to go on a date with you."
Rita didn't buy it. "I'm leaving now. I'll bring back some food for you guys tonight. What do you want to eat?"
Zoey said, "I'll ask Grace when she gets back and text you."
Rita nodded, "Okay."
Rita quickly made her way to the south gate and spotted Evan's flashy red sports car from a distance.
Evan really didn't know how to keep a low profile.
A bunch of students nearby were whispering, probably talking about him.
Rita quickly got into the car. "A lot of people are talking about you. Let's go. I don't want to be stared at."
Evan deliberately didn't start the car and even lowered the convertible top, letting everyone get a good look.
Rita asked, "What are you doing?"
Evan said, "Rita, don't always care about what others think of you. You need the courage to be disliked to live more freely."
To have the courage to be disliked, one must first have enough strength, and Rita felt she wasn't there yet. "Just drive," she said.
Evan asked, "Are you afraid of people knowing you're with me?"
Rita nodded, "Yes."
Seeing her nod without hesitation, Evan suddenly felt a surge of anger. "Are you ashamed to be with me? How am I not good enough for you?"
Hearing his angry tone, Rita shrank back in fear. "I never said that. Didn't we agree to work on breaking off this engagement? Since so, why let everyone know we had our relationship?"
Evan stepped on the gas pedal hard, and the car shot forward like a bullet. "What if I don't want to break off the engagement?" he asked.
The engine's roar was so loud that Rita didn't hear him clearly. "What did you say?"
'You've learned to play dumb,' Evan thought. He didn't respond and drove even faster.
Rita clutched her seatbelt tightly, afraid of being thrown out of the car.
After a while, they arrived at a familiar place.
Rita remembered Evan had brought her here before. It was where she had met his friends last time. "Are we meeting your friends again?"
Evan got out of the car without saying a word and walked inside.
Rita quickly followed him. "Evan, what are you so angry about?"
Evan paused for a second, thinking, 'Yeah, what am I so angry about?'
