Chapter 148

Chapter 148

Autumn’s POV

When I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was George sitting by my side. My heart warmed immediately because for a moment, I thought I was dreaming. His face was the first thing that greeted me, and I felt safe.

“You’re awake,” he said softly, his eyes filled with relief.

“George…” I whispered, forcing a weak smile. “You’re here.”

“Of course,” he replied quickly. “I wasn’t going anywhere. Not when you were like this.”

I stared at him for a while, then I suddenly remembered everything that had happened, the invasion, the fight, the blood, the chaos. My chest tightened. “What about your pack? What happened there? And Gina—tell me Gina is okay.”

George nodded, placing his hand gently on mine. “She’s fine, Autumn. Gina is perfectly fine. Don’t worry.” His voice was steady, and I could see honesty in his eyes. “Everything at my pack has been handled. We had some trouble… but it’s under control now.”

I frowned slightly. “Why didn’t you tell me before? You left me worried.”

He sighed deeply, guilt showing on his face. “I’m sorry. We had an emergency after we found out the hideout of the rogues. We had to strike fast, so we attacked them immediately. That’s why we came here. I didn’t want to drag you into more danger, not when you had enough to face already.”

I just stared at him, then I shook my head. “You don’t need to apologize. If anything, I should be thanking you. Because of you, we found out the truth. Because of you, things are clearer now.”

His lips curved slightly into a small smile, but I could see sadness behind his eyes. He looked at me with so much care, it almost made me feel guilty.

“You should rest,” he said softly. “Don’t push yourself yet. But Autumn… I need to ask. Are you going to think about what I told you before? About coming to stay with us?”

I froze. The question I had been avoiding was here again. I remembered the way he asked me before, the way his eyes begged me silently. I took a deep breath and looked at him.

“George… you’ve always been kind to me,” I started, my voice trembling slightly. “But right now, I’m finally starting to build something here. With the Alphas. Especially now, I feel like there’s a place for me here, and I don’t want to leave them. Not yet.”

His face fell for a moment, but I quickly added, “I’m sorry if I can’t return the same affection you give me. But I want you to know that I truly value you. You’re a good friend to me, and I’ll never forget that.”

George stared at me silently for a while, then a small smile appeared on his lips again. “I don’t mind, Autumn. I’ll always protect you, no matter what. And if those brothers of yours ever mess up again, I won’t let them win. I’ll take you away myself.”

I couldn’t help but laugh softly, even though I felt tears sting my eyes. “George…”

He chuckled too, shaking his head. “I mean it. I won’t let anyone hurt you again.”

At that moment, the door opened, and the brothers walked in. The moment Adonis saw me awake, he rushed straight to me, pulling me into his arms without hesitation.

“You're here.” I said.

“You're safe.” Dante said.

“Autumn,” Adonis whispered against my hair, his voice breaking with relief. “Thank the moon goddess. You’re awake.”

The others came closer too, surrounding me, touching me gently, like they couldn’t believe I was really here. Dante touched my hand carefully, Knox stood up but his eyes softened, and even the quietest of them showed his relief in his own way.

“I’m fine,” I said, smiling at them all. “You don’t have to worry. I’m still here.”

But then I remembered. “What about… the brother you discovered? What happened to him?”

Their faces changed instantly. The air in the room grew heavier. Adonis looked away for a second before finally answering. “He’s gone. He killed himself before we could even decide what to do with him.”

I froze, not knowing what to say. My heart ached for them because I knew the pain of losing someone you thought you could save. Especially since the person was their brother and it was like witnessing him die twice.

“And Agatha?” I asked quietly.

Knox’s eyes darkened. “She will get the same punishment that you got in the past life. This time, she will pay.”

I nodded slowly, feeling no pity for her.

George, who had been quiet, suddenly looked at the brothers with a serious expression. “You better take care of her. If anything happens to Autumn again, I swear I’ll come and take her away from you. I won’t let you hurt her.”

The brothers didn’t argue. Instead, Dante stepped forward, speaking firmly. “You don’t have to worry. We will never betray her again. Not in this life, not ever.”

I looked at them all and felt my heart squeeze. Could I believe them? I wanted to.

The next day, the punishment was carried out.

The entire pack gathered to witness Agatha’s fate. She stood in the center, her once-proud face twisted with fear and rage. Her powers had been stripped from her, leaving her useless. She screamed and begged, but nobody listened anymore. Her time was over.

The Alphas declared her banishment. She was thrown out of the pack, disgraced, powerless, and alone.

But I wasn’t done with her. After everything she did, after what she made me suffer in the past life, I needed to see her. I needed to face her myself. I found her near the cliffs, her hair messy, her eyes wild. She looked at me with pure hatred.

“You lost,” I said calmly, my voice steady. “In the past life, you destroyed me. But in this life, I’ve won. You can’t touch me anymore.”

Her face twisted, her body trembling with rage. “You think you’ve won?” she screamed. “You think it’s over? I'm not going to be happy until you're dead so I'm going to push you down!”

Before I could react, she rushed at me, her hands pushing hard against my shoulders, trying to throw me down the cliff. But her foot slipped. Her scream pierced the air as her body tumbled down, falling into the darkness below.

I stood frozen for a moment, my heart pounding. Then slowly, a small smile crept onto my lips. She had destroyed herself. This was the end she deserved.

I don't know why I just felt so good, I felt truly free. I wasn't the type of person that would enjoy watching other people die in the past but that was totally an exception for Agatha.

I turned away and walked back toward the pack. My heart felt lighter, my steps stronger. The brothers were waiting for me when I returned. Their eyes searched mine immediately. What exactly do they mean by looking at me like this? Are they looking for an opportunity to scold me for Agatha?

“What happened?” Adonis asked carefully.

I looked at them all, then finally spoke. “She’s gone. She wanted to push me down the cliff, I dodged her and she died.”

They exchanged glances, but none of them showed regret.

“You don’t want to defend her?” I asked softly, almost testing them.

Dante shook his head. “No. She’s not one of us anymore.”

Knox added, his voice firm, “We don’t care if she’s dead or alive. She means nothing to us now.”

I felt my chest tighten. This was what I needed to hear.

Adonis stepped forward, his eyes locking with mine. “What matters is you. From now on, Autumn, we promise you that we will protect you with our lives. We’ll never fail you again. Not ever.”

The others nodded in agreement, their voices joining his. They really didn't care about her anymore. This was happening for first time since I got reborn, I truly believed them. I will give them this chance again to prove themselves as they promised never to hurt me again.
