Chapter 149

Chapter 149
Autumn's POV

FEW WEEKS LATER

The day of the Moon Festival finally came. George’s pack had been preparing for weeks, and I had been looking forward to it because I wanted to forget all the pain and just live in the moment for once. The decorations were so bright and beautiful—lanterns in every color floated in the air, flowers lined the pathways, and the whole place smelled of roasted meat and sweet wine. Everyone was laughing and chatting, and it almost felt like nothing bad had ever happened.

I went to stay with Gina, and we stuck together the whole time. She looked so happy, running around with her glass of wine and dragging me everywhere. “Autumn, taste this!” she said, pulling me toward a stand where they were serving something sweet.

I laughed at her excitement. “You’re going to get drunk before the party even starts.”

“That’s the point!” she answered, giggling as she downed another glass.

Her laughter was contagious, and soon I was laughing too. For once, I didn’t feel like the broken girl who had suffered betrayal and death in another life. I just felt like myself.

We danced a little with some new friends I made, and I realized I was actually enjoying myself. I wasn’t pretending. I wasn’t forcing myself to smile. I was really happy. Lily came with me and she was busy with some friends she had from school so I didn't want to ruin her fun. I finally got to invite her back after everything was settled.

The brothers also came with me, but they weren’t by my side most of the time. They were busy meeting with other pack leaders, talking about politics and responsibilities. I saw them from time to time standing in a group, their tall figures so easy to spot. They kept glancing at me though, and each time I caught their eyes, I gave them a small smile to show I was fine.

While the music played and the wine made me a little warm, I sat down under a tree for a moment and let my thoughts drift.

I thought about everything that had happened before—how I had been killed by Agatha in my past life, how much pain I had gone through, and how unfair everything had felt. Yet here I was now, reborn and given another chance. And Agatha? She ended up destroyed this time. It was karma.

I finally had my revenge.

But it wasn’t just revenge that filled my heart. It was peace. Some days ago, the brothers had discovered my real family, only for me to learn they were all dead. I was the only one who survived a terrible accident, and that was why I had been wandering, lost and alone, until their older brother had found me.

I had visited my family’s grave before the festival. I lit a candle, laid down flowers, and whispered my heart out to them. For the first time, I didn’t cry bitterly. Instead, I felt like I was letting go. I told them I would live well from now on, that they didn’t need to worry about me anymore.

So tonight, at the festival, I promised myself I would enjoy it. I would live.

The night was lively. Music filled the air, people were dancing, children ran around with little lanterns, and laughter echoed everywhere. Gina kept holding my hand so I wouldn’t sneak away from the fun.

Then suddenly, everything stopped. The music cut off, the laughter faded, and everyone turned their heads toward the center.

I frowned, annoyed. The brothers had walked to the front, and they were signaling for silence.

I stood up immediately. “What are they doing?” I muttered to myself.

People around me also started murmuring. “Why are they interrupting the festival?”

I marched closer, my heart beating fast with irritation. “Seriously? Why are they disrupting the festival now of all times?” I whispered under my breath. I wanted to enjoy this night, not watch them cause drama.

But before I could say anything to them, the sky suddenly lit up. Fireworks exploded, lighting the whole night sky in colors I had never seen before. Red, gold, purple, and blue filled the heavens, painting everything in beauty. The crowd gasped in awe, children cheered, and I felt my irritation slowly fade.

Everyone liked it. Even I couldn’t deny that it was breathtaking. But my shock deepened when the fireworks formed words in the sky.

“Will you be our Luna?”

My mouth fell open. I blinked, wondering if maybe I drank too much wine. But no, the words were really there, glowing in the night sky for everyone to see.

“What the…” I whispered, frozen in place.

Then the brothers walked toward me, one by one.

Knox spoke first. His usually cold voice was trembling. “Autumn, we know we failed you before. We made you suffer in ways we can never take back. But we want to change. We want to do better. We want to create a life where you’ll never regret staying with us.”

Dante came next, holding my gaze with eyes full of regret. “I used to think I was strong, but I was weak when it came to protecting you. I failed you, Autumn. But I swear, if you let me, I’ll spend the rest of my life proving you mean everything to me.”

Adonis stepped closer last, his expression filled with raw pain and determination. “I was the worst. I doubted you when I should have believed in you. I turned away when I should have stood by you. But never again. This life… I’ll give you all of it, if only you’ll accept us. Be our Luna.”

My heart pounded so hard in my chest I thought it might break. Everyone was staring at me, waiting for me to say something. I didn’t even know what to say.

Then Gina’s voice broke through the silence. She and Lily stepped forward, standing by me like protective sisters. “Autumn, don’t just say yes because they made a big show,” Gina said firmly. “They hurt you before. Don’t forget that.”

“She’s right Miss,” Lily added. “Make them prove themselves first. Don’t give your heart too easily.”

I looked at my friends, then at the brothers who stood in front of me with such desperate eyes.

Finally, I took a deep breath. “You’re right,” I said, my voice calm but strong. “I won’t accept it so easily. I hear your promises, and I’ll give you a chance. But for now, I’ll only agree to stand with you and help you rule the pack. That doesn’t mean I’m your Luna yet. Who knows what will happen in the future?”

Gasps came from the crowd. The brothers looked like they were sad, but then slowly, they all nodded. Probably because they were expecting me to say this anyway.

Adonis was the first to speak. “Then we’ll wait. We’ll prove ourselves to you. And one day, Autumn… one day you’ll say yes, not because of a proposal, but because you truly believe in us again.”

Knox added quietly, “We’ll earn it. We swear.”

Dante gave me a small, hopeful smile. “Just don’t give up on us yet.”

I let out a small laugh, shaking my head. “Fine. But for now, stop disrupting the party. People came here to have fun, not watch me get cornered by the three of you.”

The crowd laughed with me, the tension breaking.

The brothers smiled too, there was relief mixed with determination in their faces. The music started again, the laughter returned, and the festival carried on even brighter than before.

For the first time, I felt like I was exactly where I belonged.

I tilted my head up to the glowing moon and whispered silently in my heart, “Thank you, Moon Goddess. Thank you for reviving me, for giving me another chance to live, for letting me feel happiness again.”

This time, I wasn’t just surviving. I was truly living. I truly don't know what the future would hold for me as I already passed where I stopped in my past life but I know I will never be cornered again. The three of them were finally mine and I finally had everything I wanted. So my life is good for now. I hope someone else in need of a rebirth also gets the same opportunity like me.

— THE END —
