Chapter 67 Chapter 67
"Are you insane?" she asked, her eyes wide.
“It’s just on paper so my idiotic sister will be able to marry, and we can stop any scandal that would arise,” I said.
“Yea, great, let’s get married,” she said; she was being benignly sarcastic now.
“We don't have to stay together,” I said, turning and fully looking at her now.
“That is not the problem. Rhyland. Do you think it can be done quietly? , do you think it will stay hidden? It will get out, then what? My entire damn life turns upside down again.” she said, and I could tell she was getting pissed.
“What would be so wrong about getting married to me?” I asked.
“Every goddamn thing,” she replied without missing a beat.
“Fine, I’ll pay you 5 million.”
Kai
She started laughing. "You actually think money fixes everything, right?" she asked. She let out a deep breath. She looked at my parents.
“Mr. and Mrs. Rhyland. Getting married to someone isn't just something that you do without thinking about all the consequences. Okay, let's say I agree to marry Zaiel so your family can handle this issue discreetly. I have no intention of saying a word, but someone is bound to see and say something, making it public. With your family status, my background will come to light, and my life will become complicated.” She said.
“I won’t let it get out,” I said.
“Okay. If you agree to marry him, we will have it done quietly, just the four of us and individuals that we trust, but we will have them sign an NDA. After that you carry on with your life, and he provides the marriage certificate to show the rest of the family. On one condition: you will visit for one dinner a month at the family home as long as you are married to my son. One year at most; six months is the least,” my father said.
“And I have your word, not more than one year?” She asked, looking at him and at me.
“I promise, Tessa,” I said.
“Okay, I’ll do it,” she said.
“We will compensate you,” my mother said.
“There’s no need. Zaiel helped me more than once, so this makes us even,” she said.
During dinner my mother and father were asking her questions. About where she grew up, what she is interested in, and the like. After dinner we were on the balcony. My father was telling her about the extended family and what would happen if they found out about this.
My mother walked out with a plate and was eating the leftover dinner from last night.
“Mom, I was saving that?” I said.
“Oh hush. This is good; I need to get the recipe from Trisha,” she said.
“Mom, Tessa made that,” I said, expecting her to stop eating, but she didn't; she just pushed a spoonful into my father's mouth.
“This reminds me of the pot pie my grandmother used to make. Is there more? We’ll take that to go,” he said.
“No, that’s mine,” I said.
“Tessa, please be a dear and make another one for him; actually, make two,” my father said.
“Umm, okay,” she said.
“Can we get back to the discussion?”
“Sure,” she replied.
“So, we will have a registrar come over tomorrow morning, and we can have it all signed and squared away,” my father said.
“Sure, that is fine by me,” she said.
After we discussed it at length, my parents left around eleven, and my mother took the rest of the pot pie and walked out. I found her on the balcony; she was in different clothes now.
Tessa
I was in my pajamas on the balcony. This was complete fuckery. I have no idea why I even fucking agreed. I felt him the minute he came out.
“Jax has been doing a thorough investigation on Avani, and I’m ashamed to say she doesn't seem to know who the father of the child is. Also, she’s speaking to someone in France, but the person doesn't actually exist, so I don't really know what’s happening,” he said. I didn't turn around or look at him.
“First rule as a woman, birth control, always. There are different forms of birth control; she doesn't strike me as stupid enough to not think of that,” I said.
“You?” he asked. And I smirked.
“Yes, Implant, this year it needs to be changed.”
“I see. Well, I will need your help to figure out exactly what is going on. “After we get married tomorrow, you can leave,” he said. I heard a slam, and when I turned around, Clarissa was walking in. Jesus.
“REALLY? IS THIS WHAT YOU’RE REALLY FUCKING DOING, ZAIEL?” SHE YELLED.
“Get out; I don’t have time to deal with you and your stupidity,” he said, his voice dropping an octave.
“Fine, I’ll deal with you, bitch,” she said, looking at me and pulling out her phone. She was texting someone. Zaiel was on his phone. A few seconds later Jax walked in and dragged her out; she was screaming at the top of her lungs.
“Jax, make sure she doesn't step into the building ever again,” he said.
I looked at him. “When she finds out you married me, what do you think she’ll do?”
Before he could answer, I heard a loud slam.
“WHERE THE FUCK IS THAT BITCH?” I heard a woman’s voice yell.
“Avani,” he said. She came around the corner dressed in a pantsuit. She was fair, with black hair and blue eyes. She was a bit taller than me. The minute her eyes landed on me, I saw the hatred.
“You might want to get her before I knock her ass down,” I said quietly. Avani made a beeline towards me; she was about four feet away from me. One second he was sitting down, and the next he was striding in her way, his six-foot-seven frame towering over her, and she shrank back.
"I had warned you, didn't I?" he asked, his voice so low and menacing that it sent a chill over me.
“You… you’re protecting her. This bitch, this fucker….” Her words were followed by a loud thwack. I looked at him. When I looked around him, she was holding her face, the anger and hatred evident.
“You hit me for this…”
“Repeat it, and that slap won’t be the fucking worst of it,” he said.
“You’ll fucking regret this,” she said before storming out. I looked at him.
“You didn't have to hit her.”
“I did,” he replied before walking into the apartment, straight to his office. I let out a sigh. This was complicated. I couldn't back out now; I had given them my word. Great, I had to deal with the fucktard that was Caroline Rusland and now his sister. This was not getting any fucking easier. I guess I better prepare for war on both fronts.
