Chapter 193

Chapter 193

Zoey had a rare, laid-back day at the detective squad, so much so that she actually got to leave work on time.

At 7:15 PM, she met up with Emma at the mall entrance.

When Emma arrived, she saw Zoey already getting into a cab. Just as the door was about to close, Emma rushed over. "Zoey, seriously? I was only five minutes late, and you couldn't wait a bit longer? That's so unfair! Am I not your best friend anymore?"

Zoey saw Emma and reluctantly got out of the cab. "If you were any later, I really would have left."

Emma was speechless.

It had been a while since she last saw Zoey, and Zoey was still the same.

Emma wanted to complain about Zoey, but she knew what kind of person Zoey was.

Forget it, no point in arguing. At least she didn't leave.

Emma was good at comforting herself. Once she did, she cheerfully linked arms with Zoey. "Let me tell you, I was working overtime today. To get here early, I even bought a milk tea for the person on duty so she would let me leave first."

Zoey said, "I want one too."

Emma sighed, "Fine, I'll buy you one!"

So, Emma and Zoey each got a milk tea and started shopping at the mall.

Emma tried on clothes the entire time, while Zoey gave her opinions.

"Change it."

"Makes you look fat."

"Your legs look huge."

"Ugly."

"It's okay, I guess."

"This one... I can't even look."

"Terrible taste."

The sales assistant looked like she was about to cry.

And it wasn't just the sales assistant; Emma was almost in tears too.

She finally had a day off to shop and buy some clothes for herself.

How did Zoey manage to make everything look bad?

Emma thought the clothes looked pretty good. "Zoey, what do you think I should wear? No, you pick something for me."

Zoey had already spotted something she liked but couldn't afford. She generously handed it to Emma. "Your outfit should hide your flaws and highlight your strengths. You see, these straight-leg skinny jeans paired with a tank top would look great on you."

Emma hesitated, "I've never tried that style before..."

Zoey silently took the clothes back. "Forget I said anything. Just buy what you like."

Emma was confused, "What?"

Zoey said, "You're an adult. How can you not make decisions for yourself? I'm just telling you that fashion isn't about following trends; it's about what suits you. If someone with a cute style insists on buying sexy clothes, does that really look good?"

"But..."

Zoey's impatience was evident.

Emma listened to her advice and picked something she liked from the rack. "I'll take this one, miss. I tried it on earlier, no need to try again."

Zoey bluntly said, "That's an ugly design."

"I like it!"

Zoey shrugged, "As long as you're happy."

Everyone had different tastes.

She couldn't force Emma to like what she liked.

Emma couldn't force her either.

But seriously, it was ugly!

After buying clothes, they decided to grab dinner.

They found a nice-looking restaurant and sat down to chat.

Zoey shared details about Stanley's case, and Emma was furious. "How can there still be such disgusting people!"

"It's normal. There are probably even worse people out there, just better at hiding it," Zoey said, taking a sip of water to soothe her throat.

Emma propped her chin on her hand, looking a bit annoyed. "I've realized there's a downside to being friends with you."

"What?"

"I get free crime analysis!"

Zoey was speechless. Did Emma actually want her to charge for it?

She was about to ask if Emma wanted her to charge, but Emma quickly changed the subject. "How's the search for a boyfriend going? Any good candidates?"

In an instant, Zoey mentally reviewed everyone in the squad except for the married Robert.

Thinking of Dennis and Charles, who were being pressured to get married, she said, "In our squad, besides Officer Davis who's married, there are three single guys. From my interactions, they all seem pretty good. One of them, Dennis, is thirty. He's a bit older, but he's a very caring big brother and very responsible."

Zoey searched her phone for a picture of Dennis to show Emma. "This is Dennis."

"Bald? His features are nice, but I have to think about the future. What if he's hiding a baldness gene?"

Zoey thought she had a point.

She moved on to the second guy, Charles, showing her his picture while introducing him.

"This one looks cute. He's my type. What about the third one?"

Zoey turned off her phone and put it back in her pocket. "The third one, you know him. It's Alexander."

"Who?" Emma was surprised. "You mean, Alexander?"

"What's the big deal?" Zoey asked.

Emma didn't hold back, sharing some gossip she'd heard. "I remember hearing that you two don't get along."

"Who told you that?"

Emma thought for a moment. "It's hard to trace back, but everyone in our school group says so." She quickly asked, "Is it true?"

"Half true, half false."

Emma was speechless. That answer was as good as no answer.

Zoey didn't wait for Emma's response and asked, "So, you've met all three? Who do you like? If it's Alexander, I'll give you his Facebook right now."

Emma quickly shook her head. "No, I don't deserve him."

"He's a guy, you're a girl. What's there to deserve?"

Emma looked at Zoey in shock. "Are you serious? Do you really not know? Alexander's family is super rich, not just your average rich kid. He hasn't had a girlfriend because of his family."

Zoey responded, "That's complicated."

"Exactly... I heard, just heard, that anyone who gets close to Alexander gets thoroughly investigated by his family. They care so much about who he hangs out with, they'd probably investigate your whole family."

Zoey was surprised. "That extreme?"
