43. His History and Truth

43. His History and Truth
Sol Pov

I sat there and waited. It looked as though Cassius was trying to compose himself it was clear he was nervous to divulge all of this to me. “The first thing I should tell you is probably who my parents were. My mother her name is Annalise and my father was Alpha Howie.” He spoke. That name both of them, actually sounded familiar like I had heard them before.

“The name Howie. Probably is ringing more of a bell for you than my mother's, he was the one that went to war with your pack when you were just a baby. My mother was the one who your parents through a tournament for, where Howie met her and claimed her.” I could feel my eyes getting large, knowing what he was talking about now. His parents both of them had almost obliterated my parents' lives.

Howie, Cassius’s father, was the one that killed Nivia, my mother’s old Luna. And Howi he was the one who was the source of all my mother ‘s trauma and nightmares. The memory of her screams through the years came back to me. Howi had brought war and destruction. He was from the north, and he turned on them, and he turned on the goddess, and he tried to destroy everything. I gulped. No wonder Cassius didn’t want me to know that.

But Howi he was dead, I didn’t know much about his mother, other than what I had been told that she was a conceited woman. But he said he had a witch for a sister, had Annalise remarried and had a daughter? “My mother remarried a warlock, and he had a daughter. Her name is Venus that’s who my sister is.” he said, and I nodded now understanding that side of it.

“Here is where it starts to get really bad.” He said but it was already bad in my books his father almost murdered my mother. He had pushed her out of a plane while pregnant with me. “My sister Venus started seeing Benjamin Kimi’s oldest son. She seduced him and poisoned his mind against your pack. My stepsister is responsible for the destruction of your parents' pack. She has gone on to turn all the white fur from those were alive following that attack from no longer being white. She hates your goddess and her goal for as long as I can remember has been to kill her and she thought she had, but I don’t think she succeeded like she wanted to.” He spoke.

I sat there struck with the realization he was related to these monsters. Howie was his father, and he was horrible then his stepsister too. She took my parents from me. Cassius was related to the person who obliterated everyone’s lives that I knew. Though Cassius had no idea that my parents were alive. They weren’t on the same plane of existence as we were, but they were alive. But my most important concern wasn’t who Cassius’s parents were or even that he was related to monsters. It wanted to know if he had been involved in it.

With a shaky voice, I asked “Did you help her?” he looked sad. “Sol, I didn’t hurt anyone.” That wasn’t good enough and that wasn’t an answer to my question. “Did you help her?” I asked again my voice like knives. “I didn’t prevent her. I agreed with her to an extent, not wanting the mate bond and not understanding it myself until I had it with you.” He went on.

“I would do some of her errands.” Then his voice cracked as he spoke again admitting his crimes. “The reason I showed up at your college campus was to kill you for her. That was my only job that I was supposed to do, regarding your pack. The rest of the time I just watched.” I was horrified by his admission.

"Please say something.” his voice wobbled as he spoke. I couldn't help it as the anger and sadness tore through me. Then the irony came, and I let out a laugh. Once it stared, I couldn’t stop it. It was as if my emotions were balling together in laughter. I finally spoke between my insane laughter. “you planned to kill me, well, you would’ve tried, but the funny thing is Cassius I considered killing you.” It took a while for my creepy laughter to die down and then I went back to staring at him.

I asked seriously “You didn’t help anyone; you just watched the slaughter happen?” Cassius rather slowly nodded his head. I had spent a year with him, and it had been great. It had been calm. There’s been no pressure. It was just simply constructing, hunting, throwing knives, fishing, doing everything I loved. Cassius had been there with me doing it all. He was company when I wanted to talk, and it felt comfortable. But he had just watched people I knew my whole life die and he had done nothing. That was a tough thing to come to terms with.

I then asked, “How did Kimi not recognize you then?” he just shook his head. “I have no idea, I didn’t hide, she just must have not saw me.” I felt so fooled. I had thought he wanted to be here and that he was somewhat on board with me, but everything he was confessing was filling me with doubt and most of all disappointment in him. How could I have been mated to someone who would watch people be slaughtered. How could I be with someone who was okay working for someone who wanted the goddess dead?

“Please Sol, you must forgive me.” The blood in my body ran cold, how dare he tell me I must do something. He had been the one to reject being a part of this pack and now he had the gall to tell me I had to forgive him?  “I don’t have to do anything.” I stood not wanting to talk anymore, clearly this was the end of what he had to divulge considering he was asking for forgiveness.

“ I want to join the pack now.” Cassius blurted out. He wasn’t done though because he began to confess more “I have wanted to join the Blood Borne Pack since the first month out here. I started to feel regret and shame for my actions, but I knew I couldn’t ask to join then not with all these secrets between us. And now it is all out please forgive me.” I sneered not wanting to hear more. I opened the front door to our cabin. “Don’t come to our bed tonight, you're not welcome.”
