Chapter 81 Eighty one

Chapter 81 Eighty one

The prince laughed again, but I could feel a growl ripping through his chest. “Be silent!” he ordered me as he wrapped his spare hand in my hair, tugging my head back further than I thought possible as he turned his attention towards Vincent. “Doesn't she smell divine? Believe me when I say she tastes just as sweet. Why don’t you try it, seems like a shame to let so much go to waste?”

At that moment the Phantomhive creature lost his internal battle with the beast within and launched himself into me, knocking us both into the ground as Silas sidestepped away; a strangled scream gurgling from me. My head bounced from the carpet as Vincent’s heavy form pinned me, his eyes locked onto the pinprick holes in my neck only seconds before he tore into my flesh with his fangs; the pain unbearable as he drank from me.

My vision blurred heavily, and my body went limp as he angled me into him, my head lolling to the side. I couldn’t move, couldn’t speak; he had attacked me, the only one of them I had trusted, and he was feeding on me. A part of me knew that it wasn’t his fault, but I couldn’t help the feeling of betrayal that thudded in my chest.

Silas snapped Vincent’s neck in one swift movement, the entire weight of his bulging form collapsing into me before the Prince flung him aside, easily lifting my motionless form into his arms and cradling me in his grasp as he walked towards the bed. He watched the tears sliding down my cheeks for a moment, my mind numb and unable to concentrate before he bit into his own wrist and pressed it against my mouth, pinching my nose so I had no choice but to swallow the thick liquid.

I stared up at the prince when he pulled his wrist back, a scowl stretching across my features, how could he do this to us? Why did he have to be so cruel? I wanted to burn him to ash, I wanted to destroy everything in the castle, but I knew as soon as my power sparked, I would die, I would never get a chance to use it.

“Let this be a lesson to you, no matter how little the defiance, no matter how much you beg. You will be dealt with as I see fit.” He growled, though I could sense no aggression from him.

I stared up at him mutely, knowing that should I try and speak, some more colourful words would pass my lips, and I didn’t want to see the anger return to him at this moment. I didn’t think I ever wanted it to return. I watched as he climbed to his feet, effortlessly dragging Vincent’s limp form from the room, the door clicking shut as I allowed darkness to overwhelm my senses. Unable to fight the exhaustion that swam through me any longer.

I groaned, my neck and head burning as I was ripped from the depths of sleep, momentarily unsure of my surroundings. I blinked, the light burning my eyes as they adjusted, I didn’t feel like myself at all, I just wanted to go back to sleep. But something told me that wouldn’t be an option, my mind screaming that I needed to focus, that I needed to keep myself awake.

“That’s right Luna I need you to wake up.” Came the last voice I wished to hear, the dark and heinous voice of my master. Though today it was different, kinder somehow.

I groaned again in pain, trying desperately to focus my eyes, but they didn’t seem to want to cooperate. Why did I feel this way, was it because Vincent had taken so much of my blood? Is this what it felt like to be dying?

Silas laughed, “You aren't dying, the pain is a side effect of the venom we administer to keep you weak whilst we feed, it will pass.”

I tried to force my eyes to open once more, able to see more clearly, though everything was still slightly unfocussed. He had pulled one of the armchairs closer to the bed and was perched on the very edge, leaning forward a few inches as he watched me. I stared at him, not knowing what to say, what I could say without repercussions. I sat slowly, pulling the fleece blanket up to my neck, worried that he or maybe another of his kind would attack me.

He said nothing for what felt like hours before he reached to pick something up from the floor, panic sweeping through me like a bad tic. I sighed out a breath I didn’t realise I was holding when he lifted a small tray that held a large glass of water and some toast. He carefully placed it onto the bed in front of me, a soft smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

“You must be hungry, and I can tell you need to quench your first; your lips are chapped.” he said slowly, his eyes tracing over my quaking form and lingering on the semi-fresh bites in the base of my neck.

“Thank you, master.” I croaked, unsure how long I had been asleep.

“Now much has been spoken of at the meeting. But I need to understand what happened at the Phantomhive estate.” He asked, speaking softer than usual, but still in an commanding manner.

I picked up the glass of water, taking a few large gulps before I placed it back onto the tray, thinking hard over everything that occurred there. “They killed Blanche, right in front of me, it was Berus that did it, he... He stabbed her.”

“What else?” he asked, leaning back in the armchair as he watched me, perhaps to make sure I didn’t dare lie.

“Berus knew my mother.” I whispered, fresh tears forming in my eyes as I turned to look down at the tray; unsure whether I wanted to see the look of the Prince’s face when I revealed the truth. “he was there, he was with the Phantomhive’s. He was married to her, my mother; I saw the picture of us when I was a baby.”

A sudden growl ripping from Silas’ chest and echoed through the room as I winced at the anger in his voice when he spoke. “What do you mean a picture of us?"
