Chapter 74 Seventy four
Chapter 74 Seventy four
“I don’t want anyone else to get hurt, please; she seemed genuinely kind. She reminded me of my mother.” And it was true the way she spoke softly and watched me with a small smile reminded me of the woman who raised me, in everything but the way she looked.
“I have pandered to you once; I will not do it a second time.” Silas snarled deeply as he released my chin and headed for the door. “You will learn that no matter how much you beg, you are a slave. Your kind will either serve or die and until you learn your place, you will stay in here. Alone.”
He left, slamming the door behind him and I sunk back into the chair, crying heavily into my hands. Wishing that I had the strength and abilities I would need to escape the vampire Prince, but even if I did get away, he would never stop searching for me, he would never let me be free. The mind-link we had only made it more difficult, he would know where to find me as soon as I thought of the place I was. As soon as I decided on where I would go.
I was trapped and he was right, if I was to survive this world, I needed to learn my place, and fast.
The next few days were slow and uneventful, I was left completely on my own, the Prince giving me no end in sight, by the second day I shifted into a bat several times, testing out the form and holding it for as long as possible before forcing the change back into my flesh. I was brought three meals a day, and a hot chocolate before I went to sleep each night, but I never felt hungry enough and instead, I ate one of the sausages on a morning and drank the hot chocolate before I went to sleep. I knew that other witches were bringing the food, but they never entered, the three guards that were on rotation outside of the door bring in the trays and drinks. But they never spoke to me, only scowled when they saw that I hadn't eaten more than the singular sausage.
On day four I turned out all the lights in the chamber and spent the day in the four-poster bed, trying not to think of anything and everything, at least I believed it was day four, the only think I had to go by was when they brought breakfast. I would pretend I was asleep when they brough me food, but the truth was, I was exactly sleeping, my mind plagued with past events.
A few more days past and I swore that I was going to go mad, the dark seeming oddly welcoming, I strolled towards the wardrobe and pulled out an emerald, green gown with a low enough neckline to see the brand that had now healed over, the skin forever scared; reminding me that I was a worthless slave. I stripped out of the clothes I wore, deciding to spend some time as a bat before I bathed and dressed, I shifted with a certain ease, the agony that used to be caused by the shift now simply a dull ache.
It was so strange changing size, but I loved the feel of my wings when I stretched them, letting of a high-pitched screech as I launched around the room, ducking and diving around the furniture. My mind was mostly at peace in this form, I loved how free I felt when I could fly, it was a wondering feeling that I hadn't felt for so long in my natural form. Not since I was a small child.
The Prince hadn't entered my mind since he left in anger days and days ago, making me feel truly alone, he had blocked me from sensing his presence and his thoughts; but I guess that was just another way of him proving to me that I need to obey every command, showing that it would be easy for him to forget about me. That I was nothing.
After another long screech I settled on one of the curtains that clung to top right post of the bed, locking the short and sharp claws onto the fabric. I began to relax, the stress in my mind easing a small amount before I slipped into the depths of sleep.
The door opened and someone entered, flicking the light on and almost blinding me in the process as I curled my wings around, concealing me from the brightness. I knew that real bats were mostly blind, but even in this form, I kept my eyes sight. There was a large string of cursing in a language I didn’t know before the door slammed, leaving me to crawl back into the darkness of sleep. I shrieked in annoyance when a mind entered my own, the door opening once more a few seconds after the intrusion, I kept my wings neatly folded around me; I didn’t care who was here and I certainly didn’t care to speak with the Prince who I knew was in my head.
I forced him back, when he tried to push me to shift back into my human form, knowing that I was here somewhere, but unsure where to begin looking; my bat form very tiny.
“I know you are here; I can feel your presence even if you push me out.” Growled the prince, my heart shuddering in fear. “I’m going to need you to transform back into a human.”
I went to transform back, but paused, remembering something important. I slipped into his mind, unable to talk whilst I was a bat, informing him that if I shifted back into my human form, I would completely on show. Naked.
“Humph” He exclaimed; the annoyance clear in his tone. “Fine, I will turn my back but ONLY for sixty seconds”
I watched as he turned his back and as soon as I was out of his line of sight I flew down and transformed back into my own flesh, I felt heavy and stiff, my stomach churning at the fast change. But I had to get dressed faster than I ever had in my entire life as I only had a few seconds left, I slipped the emerald-coloured gown over my head, only just having enough time to push my arms through the sleeves before the Prince turned back to look at me. His eyes lingering on the brand on my collar bone, his brand. The mark that proves I am his slave.
I turned my gaze towards the floor as I straightened the gown, nervously wrapping my hands around my waist. I didn’t know what to say, it had been days when I last spoke to anyone, and he was the reason for that. He had ensured I was alone, that I would have contact with no one until he decided that I would obey him. Had that time come? Was he going to let me out?
“I see you are showing your mark, Fraulien.” He said in a slow but thoughtful tone.
What choice did he think I have?
