Chapter 65 Sixty five

Chapter 65 Sixty five
I landed with a small thud on my side, a blur once again tricking my vision, no not one, but many. I blinked in shock, my eyes barley able to focus on the dozens of vampires who suddenly appeared in the small clearing; each one bowing to their prince.

Silas was by my side in the next instant, lifting me from the ground as three others lifted Vincent and when my master spoke; the entirety of Lady Phantomhive’s men backed away in fear. “Destroy them all.”

I gripped onto his shirt as a battle exploded in the darkness, his men already getting the true heir to the Phantomhive family out of harm's way. The last thing I saw before the prince dragged me away from the line of fire was Elizabeth going down into the mud, surrounded by Silas’ men. Though my thoughts were elsewhere, what would happen to my saviour? Would Vincent survive? What happens to vampires who come up against diamond and live? Would he ever be the same?

I closed my eyes now I was safe in the arms of Silas, my entire body relaxing; even if only slightly. I could finally enter the world of dreams.

I was exhausted, but I had a feeling this was far from over.

I shuffled slightly in what felt like a large bed, much comfier than the one I had been forced to sleep on in the Phantomhive’s home; sighing happily as I could feel that my master was nearby. I pulled the soft duvet towards my shoulders, smiling slightly as I pulled myself away from the sleep that threatened to consume me.

“I see you are comfortable in your new chamber Fraulein.” I sensed a smile in his tone as he spoke, he seemed to be as happy as I was; it was good to be back at the castle.

Wait, is it? I could have ran with Vincent, never to see this place again.

But here I am, still a slave, just with a prettier bedroom.

“Yes, very much so.” I looked around the room as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes. “Which room is this, mine didn’t look like this?”

I giggled slightly at the wonderful deep purple walls and a built in mahogany wardrobe, with drawers to match. The floors were a simple violet shade, the thick carpet soft and welcoming against my bare feet as I climbed from the bed. I looked down to see that I was wearing a soft silk gown, the shade matching the walls perfectly.

“After you were taken, I had this room prepared for your return. I would like to take credit for the design and colours, but Marianne took charge, and I am glad she did.” Silas said, his tone softer than I had known it to be before.

“I must thank her when I see her again, it is wonderful.” I smiled towards my master, pleased that we managed to make it back alright. But something lingered in the back of mind something I had forgotten.

Or someone.

“How is Vincent? I don’t remember much after you arrived.” I said after a short uncomfortable silence.

“That is because you passed out not long after I lifted you from the ground Fraulien.” Silas sighed, completely avoiding my question as he continued; “More importantly, are you feeling alright? You must have used up all your strength in the fight against that traitorous fiend.”

“I’m fine.” I snapped, slightly annoyed that he hadn't answered me in the way I had wanted. “What has happened to Vincent, what have you done?”

“I do not wish to discuss the traitor; he is where he belongs in the dungeon.” Growled the Prince, clearly agitated that I would care what happened to a Phantomhive.

I began to walk towards the door with shaky legs, my entire form screaming at me to climb back into the bed, to obey my master; but I could not. I needed to know he was ok, I knew what diamond could do to a vampire, and it wasn’t pleasant. Vincent had saved my life, and for that I owed him everything, I had to try.

Silas blocked my path with folded arms, “Where do you think you are going?”

I huffed, copying his annoyed stance. “To make sure the vampire who ACTUALLY risked his life for me is alright, he is not a traitor, and you said you would help him.”

The prince stepped towards me with a glint in his eye, something threatening and slightly unnerving about his demeanour; almost causing me to backdown.

Almost.

I backed up a step, but squared my shoulders, showing him that I would not give up so easily. What was his problem? He told me that he would help Vincent, not lock him away.

“How dare you question what I did or did not put on the line to save you. Do you forget that I own you?!” Silas snarled, baring his fangs.

“So much for being more to you than a slave.” I shouted as loud as I could without injuring my throat. “You are just like Elizabeth. All you want is POWER!”

The prince slapped me across the face. Hard.

He did so with enough force to knock me into one of the bed posts, my petite frame crumbling into the carpet. How had he changed so much while I was gone? When did he become so cold?

I grasped my cheeks with both hands, already feeling it beginning to swell, I retracked my mind from my master, blocking him out completely as tears swelled in my eyes.

I remained there, on the floor, refusing the look up at the creature who had tricked me into trusting him.

Never trust a vampire, that’s what my mum always said. They were undead creatures without feeling, they didn’t care who they injured in their advance to power.

How could I have been so foolish? He killed my mother!

it was as though I had developed stockholm syndrome, believed that he was more than a monster. I was wrong.

I had wanted to be back in his care so badly, I had let myself fall for the trick that all vampires played with witches. I had allowed him to mould me as he wished. I had thought that he cared about me. but undead creatures cared about nothing; and he was a vampire after all.

“Who do you think you are? YOU, you are a servant, a possession. You are an asset to the cause of uniting the Vampires under one true rule. Remember your place when comparing your master to that... that, that treacherous whore!” Silas barked.

He's too far gone, my only hope now is to escape, and take Vincent with me.
