Chapter 66 Sixty six
Chapter 66 Sixty six
I felt he meant every word he spoke, but I still would not allow him to feel what I did, I wouldn’t allow him to feel the anger and sadness within me. I focused my blurring gaze onto the carpet, how can he be so kind in one breath and then a brute in the next?
He hadn't even asked about my friend Blanche. He didn’t even care that she hadn't been in the woods with me, all he wanted was me for my power. He craved it like all the rest. Maybe it would have been better if I had died in her place. Maybe then, I would know peace.
“I do not belong to anyone, I have my own mind, my own reasoning; and unless that is stripped from me. I will NEVER succumb.” I whispered harshly, barely even considering the consequence of my words.
“YOU ARE MINE!” Silas bellowed, ripping me from the ground by my hair and slamming my back against the bed post.
I growled in pain and anger. “I AM MY OWN.”
Silas grabbed me by my ankle, his grip was tight, tight enough to cut off the circulation to my foot. His words were dry, emotionless and in a hissed tone. “Fine. Your failure to comply will get you a night in the only place you will learn.”
Then there was nothing but silence from the Vampire.
I squealed when my body was lifted into the air by my ankle, the prince using his unnatural immortal speed against me, knowing that I would be unable to overpower him as he dragged me down into the very depths of the castle, a place he had never shown to me before. And I wasn’t the only witch down there.
The dungeon was dark, an icy feel all around me as Silas slowed so I could take it all in, dragging me across the stone floor as if I was nothing but a doll. Something that he could do as he pleased with. The worst thing was, I was powerless to prevent it.
He could kill me with a single flick of his wrist, and yet; I continued to argue with him. This was my own doing. I know that. But I thought I could trust him, I thought he was my friend.
That is where the real mistake lies, I let my guard down.
Foolish. Stupid girl.
He stopped outside an impossibly heavy metal door, the lock something I had never seen before, something that I doubted that even a vampire could break.
He shoved the door open with enough force to shake the frame, throwing me inside with a ferocity I hadn't seen from him in a long while, at least; not towards me.
I landed at an angle on the bitterly cold stone floor, my arm twisting behind me as it broke, the snap echoing through the eerie silent underground place.
“You will remain here, until I deem you worthy to be in my company.” He snarled, but before he left; he knelt before me. “What will you say now witch, will you apologise to your master?”
“No.” was all I said as I attempted to hide the agonising pain that rippled through my arm.
Then I noticed his gaze, it was almost like he was trying to see into my mind through sight alone. I checked my mental barriers, ensuring that they were still in place, that they would hold him off.
He may have more physical strength than me, but I was a still a powerful witch; and my mind was my closest ally.
“Reinstate the mind-link now!” he barked, his order echoing throughout the dungeon. I could practically hear others wince and gasp in the cells around me, though I couldn’t concentrate on them now, I had my own problems.
His mind was trying to pierce its way into mine, I had to force him out, show him that I’m stronger than he believes me to be. He growled in a low tone as he struggled to break through the barriers I started to increase in my mind. Making it extremely difficult for him to see anything other than anger.
“Yield witch!” Another order barked at me like he was commanding his troops, but I was not one of THEM. “I am going to give you until nightfall tomorrow to open up our link again. Your failure to do so will see you drained of every drop of blood, and I can assure you, it will be a slow and painful end to your miserable life.”
I said nothing as he stood and left the room, slamming the door behind him and locking it to make sure I would not be able to escape him. I lay there on the ground, wondering how my life became this way; what had I done to deserve the life I was given? Had I been a murderer in a past life? Had I betrayed someone close to me?
The truth was all witches of this world were born into something similar and there was nothing we could do to stop it. We were barely a match for the power of a vampire, especially one born into the hierarchy. What could I possibly do should Silas decide to kill me? How in the name of all that was natural could I defeat a VAMPIRE?!
I shivered against the cold, had I made a mistake by standing my ground, should I have yielded when he ordered me to do so? I never knew where I stood in his eyes, he has always been so hot and cold with me; but now I knew this was it. I had a decision to make.
One that quite literally meant life... or death.
