CHAPTER 21

Emmy After we get dressed, we head downstairs, and I serve us dinner. I made a roasted chicken with biscuits, roasted red potatoes and carrots. We sit down to eat, and I know Carter has questions. I could see he was dying to ask. I know how he was feeling because I had felt the same way.

“Okay, so I think I owe you a Q and A session,” I say as I take a bite of my food.

“You think?” Carter says jokingly. “I don’t even know where to start.”

I laugh. “I felt the same way when I found out about who I really was. Just ask the first thing that comes to your mind.”

“Okay, you mentioned before that you couldn’t give yourself to me until you knew I was your soulmate. Why?”

“A witch is only supposed to give herself to her soulmate. If a witch does give herself to someone other than her soulmate it can be a problem. It complicates things in ways that I don’t even fully understand. All I know is that having sex with someone that isn’t your soulmate is a huge no no. Before you ask. No, my dad was not my mom’s soulmate. My mom was a rebel and caused a lot of problems in the magical world. Technically my mom shouldn’t have even gotten pregnant with me because my dad wasn’t her soulmate, but our bloodline is so powerful it was able to happen anyway. Also, before you freak, I’m on the pill. So, don’t worry, I’m not getting pregnant anytime soon. Plus, there are magical precautions we could take if we really had to.”

“Right.” Carter paused taking in the information I just spat at him. “How powerful is your bloodline?”

“Pretty damn powerful. Like we are royalty in the magical world. I don’t know all about my family history yet. I don’t know why, but everyone seems to tip toe when it comes to telling me about my family. I’m sure I’ll find out at some point. I have to find out.” The last part I said mostly to myself because I did have to find out about my family tree. There were so many things that I didn’t know, and I didn’t like it.

“This is pretty crazy, you know that right?” Carter takes a bite of a biscuit.

“Oh, I know. I’m well aware of how crazy this all is, but it’s my life. I can’t help that I was born a witch. Believe me, life was a lot simpler before I found out, but at the same time I love who I am. Having magic has changed my life. Kenzie has been amazingly helpful. You will have to meet her. She is great. Carter, I know this a lot to take in so you can ask me anything you want at any time.”

Carter smiles at me.

“As crazy as this is all is, it’s not that crazy. My Uncle Darren is a Warrior. I just found out today. He’s always been telling me that I’m meant for more and that there was more to this world than just the ordinary. I called him after you told me. I didn’t even have to tell him you were a witch he already knew. He’s known about us being soulmates for a while.”

“That’s amazing. You’re going to find a lot of things are connected like you never thought before. Trust me. Your Uncle being a Warrior is awesome. I don’t know too much about them other than that they are humans who fight and help the magical world.”

“He didn’t tell me much just that I needed to talk to you and that in time he would explain things to me.”

“Ugh. I get the same speech from Kenzie. I don’t know why everything is secretive. Kenzie says it’s better to get the information in small doses because it can be a lot to take in. I get it but at the same time it sounds like a load BS.”

Carter laughs. “So, I guess I should get used to the cryptic mysterious crap?”

“Yeah, get used to it. Maybe now we will get to figure it out together and not on our own.”

“That would be nice. Besides what are soulmates for?” Carter winks at me and I wink back. We laugh at our dorkiness.

We finish eating. I clean up from dinner with a wave of my hands. Carter puts his arms around me and pulls me to him. My back is against his hard chest and I felt safe wrapped in his arms.

We spend the rest of the weekend exploring each other’s bodies and giving into our desires. I’m glad to have the answer to the question that has been on my mind the moment I found out about soulmates. Carter is my soulmate, and I feel completed now that I knew. I can tell something changed within Carter as well, and our relationship has gone to a whole other level.

I know it would take time for Carter to fully adjust to me being a witch and that magic was real, but I had faith that he could come to terms to this new reality. Plus, his Uncle Darren being a Warrior is helpful. I’m curious about him now and I wonder if Kenzie and Jason know who is. I don’t think they interact much with the Warriors at least that’s how it comes off. I’m going to have to learn more about The Warriors and The Reapers organizations since they are a big part of the magical world. I’m sure Carter is just as curious as me since someone in his family is a Warrior.

The drive home is peaceful. Neither of us wanted our amazing weekend to end, but it must. Graduation is in the next few weeks for Carter and the twins. I also have to get back to magic lessons, and I still have to set up a meeting with Vivian. I know Vivian would have some answers about my family and I’m ready to ask all the questions I need to.
