Chapter 36: Distrust Behind a Voice
Chapter 36: Distrust Behind a Voice
I despise leaving them like this. They need me just like I need them. I thought as I gained whatever strengths I had left to keep myself from falling asleep.
Before I could get a good look at him, my eyes closed once again. And this time, I fell into an unconscious state of mind.
I had tried my hardest to stay awake since I needed to see their faces, yet my body had a different idea.
As the moments passed, the sound of machines beeping became louder. And it caused my ears to perk up.
Where am I? The last thing I remember was when Gabriel and I stepped out of the portal. But after that, it's a blur. I wondered, just as voices became loud enough for me to hear.
"Is she going to be alright?" One of my mates asked the doctor who attended to me.
Shivers ran down my spine as I overheard him speaking, and curiosity fluttered around in my mind. Desperately, I tried to sit up, but was pulled back down by chains that stopped me from moving around.
Fcking hell! I can't stay here any longer! I yelled internally and thrashed around on the hospital bed.
Just as I was about to break free, one of the nurses grabbed my wrists and held them tightly.
"Let me go! You're hurting me!" I hollered while trying to remove their hand. But, it didn't work; they squeezed tighter, and a bruise started appearing on my wrist.
"Don't move! You're not ready to go!" They whispered in my ear, stopping me from moving.
Defeatedly, I plopped back down, afraid of what they could do to me if I didn't listen.
Why does this have to happen to me? Answer me, Moon Goddess! I prayed silently as I tried to get a handle on my situation.
Then, something else popped into my mind, a change in my thinking. It was like a cloud of doubt was removed from my sight, and I could see clearly.
When suddenly, once again, doubt crept into my mind about my mate's questioning.
Why is he concerned about my well-being? I feel like one day, he'll be fed up with my antics and decide to break up with me. There's no reason for him to act like that. I wondered as I went in and out of consciousness.
But then, one of the doctors spoke, their voice void of anything I could think of.
"Yeah, she is okay. You must leave now because she needs all the rest she can get." They said matter-of-factly. No emotions were displayed in their words, yet I could feel them.
Unable to do anything about my situation, I tried calling out for help. I had high hopes of it happening, although I didn't know how long it would last.
"Hello. Can anyone hear me?" I mumbled, yet no one was listening to a word I was saying.
All they were doing was communicating with each other, not paying attention to me.
Before I could get a good look, a whirring sound flew through the room, causing my heart to race. "Help, can anybody help me?" I screamed, trying to inch myself backwards on the bed.
But it didn't work. Instead, my eyes closed fully on their own, and white spots appeared in my vision.
What is going on here? I believed Gabriel and Elias would stay with me until I woke up. I guess that's not going to happen. I pondered as my world fell away, and a portal in my mind appeared.
Cautiously, I stepped forward, my nerves running rampant inside my chest. Who the fck would do this to me? And why am I in an unconscious state? I wondered as I inched slowly toward the people in front of me.
My eyes widened as I took in the people who stood before me. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My whole life, I always wanted to have someone by my side who knew what I had been through. Yet, I didn't think that it would happen this soon.
And still I feel like my whole world has been turned upside down. I don't know what the fck to do about it.
Who are they? And why do they look like me? I wondered, unable to understand what was happening.
"My child, you don't know how much I've missed you." The woman spoke, her voice calm and collective. But my heart thumped loudly, as though they could hear it.
"Daughter, I know this may come as a shock to you. But we're your birth parents, and have been watching you on your journey to self-discovery. " The man said with his hand outstretched.
"Daughter? I'm your fcking daughter!" I screamed as anger flitted through my veins. I couldn't believe what I was saying.
The woman who supposedly gave birth to me has now come through my mind to claim me as hers? Do they think this is a fcking joke? Because it isn't!
As I continued ranting inside my brain, they stood with their mouths agape. They weren't saying anything. All they did was look at me impassively.
"Come on, say something! Anything!" I yelled, urging them to speak. Until finally, she did.
"I know this came as a shock. But since you were badly injured, this is the only way we could reveal your true identity." The woman said with a neutral facial expression.
As those words lingered in the air, I crossed my arms over my chest, and tears began appearing in my eyes.
How dare she say that to me! Does she have any idea of what I had to go through alone? I bet she doesn't! I wondered as she held her hand out.
"Don't touch me!" I screamed while walking backwards.
Slam...
My back hit something hard, a scent filled my nostrils as I sniffed.
A voice reached my ears, causing me to turn around slowly.
"Darling, are you alright?" They asked, their voice full of concern.
