Chapter 37: My Mate Or My Father's Choice
Chapter 37: My Mate Or My Father's Choice
My back hit something hard, and a scent filled my nostrils as I sniffed.
Even though the smell was both weird and familiar, it felt oddly comforting.
Had I been followed? That can't be true because I am still in a coma. So, it has to be my imagination. I wondered when, out of nowhere, a voice reached my ears.
The way the person is speaking is like a melody in my heart. Who could it be, though? I thought while turning to face the person who was speaking.
My jaw dropped in shock. Gabriel was standing in front of me with a forlorn and worried expression.
I wonder why he's here. Wasn't he in the hospital room at the packhouse? And now, he's here in my dreamland. I thought, eager to know why he appeared suddenly.
"Make sure to do this calmly. Okay?" My wolf stated, encouraging me to think about the consequences if I don't.
Hearing the calmness in her voice calmed my mind down slightly.
My wolf was always a voice of reasoning; someone who would always be there for me, no matter the circumstance that stood in our way. Yet, today wasn't any different; in fact, she knew the words to say, ensuring I would not back down.
It showed me that I'm ready to figure this whole thing out. She spoke once again, this time giving me more words of encouragement.
"Okay. I will stay calm. Don't leave me, though." I responded quietly.
I had to make sure that despite the loneliness I was currently feeling, I wasn't alone in this. Because, if I were, I don't know what I would do.
"I promise. Now go get our answers from Gabriel." She said, her voice mesmerizing.
Dear Moon Goddess. I pray that you give me the strength to confront what lies before me. I prayed silently, then I stood up straighter while staring at him with curiosity-filled eyes.
Once satisfied, I breathed deeply, gaining the strength from my wolf's words and the Moon Goddess, happily. This was it, the time I found out the truth. But was it something that I would gladly receive? Or will I regret it?
"What are you doing here, Gabriel?" I asked, unsure if I was seeing things. Because to me, he looked like my imagination was playing tricks on me. Yet, I didn't know if that was true or not.
Before I could ask another question, he opened his mouth to speak. But for a moment, nothing came out of it. We stood in silence for God knows how long.
Then he inhaled the cool air surrounding us, letting it flow and calm his nerves down.
What does he want to ask? Will it be about where we ended up? Or about how I'm feeling? I wondered while peering at him with a racing mind.
I couldn't help it as curiosity and doubt began creeping into my heart like a snake, unwilling to let go.
Then, I felt his hand touch my shoulder, and he began rubbing up and down as he spoke.
Why the fck would he touch me right now? I thought while shaking his hand off my shoulder.
"Darling, are you alright?" Gabriel asked with his voice full of concern, gripping my shoulder tightly.
Unsure of what I was hearing, my eyes widened in shock. A gulp escaped my lips. Ready to confront what he said, I asked, "What?"
I need to... No, I must know how he got here. The only way for me to know is if he tells me. I pondered while shifting from one foot to the other.
My mind began swirling with unanswered questions. But Moon Goddess forbid, I would receive them now.
Just as I was about to ask him, my mother wrapped her arm around my waist, pulling me closer to her.
"Child, who's this?" My mother questioned, her eyes displaying concern as she observed Gabriel, who stood before us.
Why do they want to know who this is? My parents have never been in my life, and now everything has changed. But in a split second, it could change again. I wondered while observing my parents' faces.
They were concerned about me. But how they, especially since being in a coma forced me to see them. And goddamn, it's frustrating as hell.
There's nothing I can do about it but accept it.
Once again, I inhaled, then exhaled, reassuring myself that everything would be alright.
Come on. No need to be worried. They're my parents, and have a right to know who this person is. So, let's get this done and over with.
I looked deeply into my parents' eyes, determination growing with each passing second.
"This... He is one of my mates." I stated nervously, not knowing how they would take it.
As the words lingered in the air, their jaws dropped in shock.
"Your mate?" My father responded disdainfully. "How can he be your mate?" He asked, his voice filling with malice.
As I continued hearing him say those things, rage began creeping into my heart.
"But..." I tried to interrupt, but he scoffed.
How he spoke fueled my anger, and I balled my hands into fists. How fcking dare my father say it like that! Doesn't he know how long I waited to have someone on my side like him? I thought as my heart rate increased drastically.
Despite the anger and rage boiling in my veins, I knew it was time to reveal the truth that was laid upon my heart.
I nodded slightly. Although my father probably won't agree to this. My fate is set in stone, and there's nothing I can do to change that. I pondered while crossing my arms.
Then, after a brief moment, I responded, maintaining a cool expression. There's no way in hell I would let him break up my relationship. He needs to know that what I told him is true.
"Yes, Father. My mate." I stated nonchalantly, even though my mind raced with a million thoughts.
I couldn't believe my father didn't trust a word I said.
