AT THE CEMETERY

AT THE CEMETERY
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

DIANA

At first, I had no idea where I was going. I just knew that I needed to get somewhere. Somewhere that was far away from that bastard, Chris.

I had put up with everything that he had thrown at me ever since I stared working for him because I knew I was the one who had left him in the first place.

Although I had my own reasons, I thought to myself that it didn't matter and that he had every right to hate me.

However, he had gone too far this time. He knew nothing, nothing at all about what my life was like and how I had lived the five years that I was married to James.

He had no idea how Dylan treated me the first months after James died, so how dare he speak like he knew my life so well?

I was walking without aim at first, but then I took a taxi when I got tired, and I somehow found myself in front of the cemetery.

I stepped down and looked around in horror once the driver dropped me off.

I had no idea what had been going on in my head and I didn't even know what I was doing here.

The cemetery was the last place I wanted to be at, I definitely did not want to visit they bastard, James.

I truly hoped that he was rotting in the deepest darkest parts of hell.

And, I also did not want to face that little life I was forced to give up five years ago.

I told myself I didn't want to go in, I told myself that I would just turn around and head back to the hotel, however, somehow, I found myself going inside the cemetery.

I headed for the part that I dreaded the most, and relying on just my memory, I soon ended up in a small unmarked grave.

All of my strength gave up and my legs gave way once I arrived in front of the grave. I fell down and started to weep bitterly.

I could be strong when I had to face anyone else, I could pretend like I was a confident woman who had suffered through abuse and who had picked up her life despite everything.

However, once I was in front of this grave, I was just a useless mother who could not even protect my own child.

My mind drifted back to five years ago, and what happened when I had first gotten married.

I was in a new place, away from home, and although I hated the situation and the man I was married to, I consoled myself with the fact that he loved me and so my life wouldn't be too hard .

However, I soon found out that it was a lie. In front of a man's pride, things like love did not matter at all.

It all came crashing down when he found out on my wedding night that I was pregnant.

There was no way I could have been pregnant for James, and the child obviously belonged to Chris.

My first instinct had been immense joy, and even though I was already married, i was already thinking of how I would go back and tell Chris about the baby.

I was sure that he would forgive me , once I explained why I had to get married to someone else and the fact that I was pregnant, I was convinced that Chris and I would get back together .

I was so young back then, and I was filled with a lot of delusions.

I truly believed all of those things, and filled with that blind confidence, I came clean to James.

I told him about the person I was in love with , and how I wanted to go back.

Back then, I was convinced that I had a good argument, and I even gave him a long speech on his if he loved me, he would let me go.

However, that was the begining of the abuse that would last for five years.

He hit me so badly that night, I thought I was going to die.

I was bleeding so much, I was convinced the child was gone.

However, when the doctor was called, the child was still alive.

My baby was strong, and it wanted to live no matter what.

James tried to get me to abort the child, he told me that we would live a happy married life as long as I aborted, but I said no, I refused to do it.

He dragged me to the hospital himself, and my father even endorsed the forced abortion.

However, perhaps even God felt sorry for me, because the doctor said that my body was weak, and that an abortion would take my life.

Since I got to keep my child, I thought James wouldn't want me anymore and he would let me leave with my father, but oh, I was wrong.

He told me I was his wife, and the child belonged to him to do as he pleased.

For the next nine months, I lived the rest of my life locked up inside a room, with James only coming to abuse me whenever he felt like it.

I finally went into labour, however, despite all of the suffering that I had gone through to carry the pregnancy to term, I still lost the baby.

According to what I was told, the child was malnourished, and they could not save his life.

I didn't even get a chance to hold him because he was cremated before i woke up.

The only thing I was given as an urn , as well as the cold news that my child did not survive.

I knew then that it was over for me, and James went on to make my life a living hell.

I touched the nameless graveyard of my child, I had to sneak out to bury him here, because James wouldn't even hear of it!
