CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX

DIANA

My child had died only because I was too weak to fight for both of us. Many times, I had thought about running away, but in the end, I never went through with it.

I was always holding back, worrying about what I could do on my own, and wondering if the existence of the child was going to affect Chris.

James was also powerful, and he could have made sure that all three of us, me, the baby and Chris suffered terribly for what he considered a betrayal.

And so, I had to stay put, until the child was lost. My baby didn't even have a name, and my father only flippantly told me that he was a boy when I would not stop asking.

Wiping my tears, I stood up from the grave. It had started to get dark, and it seemed that I had unknowingly spent a few hours here.

I may have been a terrible mother to the poor child that was unfortunate enough to have a weak mother like me, but I didn't want to continue living like that for the rest of my life.

After what happened to James and how I managed to get away from his family, I kept feeling like I was given a second chance at life and that I had to live well to proof that I deserve this second chance.

I wouldn't waste it, at all.

I walked out of the cemetery to see someone standing in front of the car, staring at me.

It was a face that I did not recognize, and I turned to walk in the opposite direction, however , the person followed me .

"Mr. Langston asked me to bring you back with this car, " the man told me.

I turned back to look at the car, I was sure that Chris would not bother with me after I walked away from him like that, but he actually sent a car to get me?

Why? Did he really need me to go to that banquet with him so badly?

.......

CHRIS

It was late, and I was starting to get worried. I wanted to give Diana some time to calm down on her own since I knew that I had gone too far in provoking her this time, however, I could not stop worrying at this point.

I picked up my phone and called someone I had asked to watch her.

Although I did not live in this city, it wasn't hard to arrange for someone to follow her.

As long as you had money, you could do whatever you wanted. It was something I was forced to learn five years ago.

"Where is she?" I asked as soon as the person picked up the phone.

"She got into the car that you sent and they should be on thier way back now," the person reported to me .

I let out of breath of relief, "where....where has she been the entire time?" I couldn't help but ask.

She had spent a few hours wandering about, and I really wanted to know where exactly she went.

"She didn't go anywhere else besides the cemetery," it was as if something died inside of me when I heard this.

The cemetery....of course, she would go there. Her husband was buried there, after all.

Did this mean that she still cared about her husband above everything else?

Diana....she still loved that man , James, right?

I had tried my best not to think about the person Diana had gotten married to because I knew that I would just be torturing myself if I did that.

I would have never thought that a day would come when I would find myself jealous of a dead man.

"Yes, she was a true cemetery all day, however, something is odd," the person reported to me.

"What do you mean?" I asked, my eyes hardening.

"She didn't go to her husband's grave, she was at the grave of someone else. There was no name on that grave."

"Wait, you are telling me that Diana spent the entire day at some unmarked grave? She didn't even go see her husband's grave , once?" I asked, my heart beating fast against my chest.

What was going on? What was Diana hiding from me? I kept feeling like she had way too many secrets, but I didn't want to get myself involved in it before.

Perhaps, this was the time for me to really get down to the bottom of what happened in her life while she lived here?

"Yes" came the reply.

"She was crying for a really long time too," he added.

"I want you to find out who exactly has that grave. I don't care how you do it and I don't care how much you have to spend, just make sure they you find out who is buried there!" I snapped.

Damnit, who was that person that could make Diana cry for so long?

She was willing to turn her back on me and get married to someone else as soon as possible, even when she said she loved me, but she was crying so much for some dead guy?

I never thought that I would go from being jealous of a dead guy to being jealous of a dead guy who didn't even have a damn name.

"Of course, I'll do that sir," the person said cheerfully.

I was paying him a shit ton of money, so of course, he would be happy to work for me.

"Also, one more thing, find out everything that you can about Dylan Rodd. I want to know exactly what businesses he's involved in and the people he hangs out with," I said, a cold look in my eyes.

Something had definitely happened between Dylan and Diana, I had to get to the bottom of it no matter what!

"It would be best if you could also find out the kind of relationship he and his brother has when James was alive," I added.
