Chapter 71 See You Tomorrow
Chapter 71 See You Tomorrow
Purple’s POV:
I have no idea how a brother-and-sister relationship is supposed to work, but I’ve heard brothers can be so annoying—never there when you’re down emotionally, but they’ll break a man’s hand if he dares to touch you aggressively. That was exactly the kind of protector Harry and Chris have been to us.
I watched Harry run toward Etsy, but Chris got there first. I had never been so proud of two men in my life. I also expected Maurice to punch Chris back and for a fight to break out, but he simply wiped the corner of his bleeding lip and looked at Chris.
“I am never going to hurt her. What do you take me for?”
Chris snorted, about to take another step toward him, when Etsy stood between them, shoving Chris back. “Let’s leave. I’m good.”
“Why do you even keep hanging out with this bastard?”
Maurice chuckled. “I am the bastard?”
That seemed to fuel Chris’s rage, but Etsy was standing in his way. I walked over and placed a hand on Chris’s shoulder, causing him to tense. “Hey, can we leave?” Everyone was watching us and even had their phones out, because that was just what Roonie was like. The Rebels had a racing game tonight, and too much bad blood among them wouldn’t solve a thing.
“Stay away from her,” Chris warned Maurice before he turned around and left with Etsy and Dianne behind him. I sighed and kept glancing at Maurice, who rubbed his face tiredly before turning to leave, but Harry’s words stopped him.
“You better show up for training in an hour with high spirits.”
Maurice smiled softly and nodded. “Of course, man.”
When he left, I turned to Harry. He was staring deeply at me as well, and just his gaze made me feel like a baby, with my only problem in the world being hunger.
“Nice sports attire,” I commented on his perfect choice of color: purple.
He smirked. “Nice sports attire,” he repeated, nudging his top that I was currently wearing. I smiled, and we both walked out of the school toward his car.
“Thank you,” I muttered once we got close. Chris and Etsy weren’t beside the car, so I assumed they had found another way to get back to the house.
“For?” Harry pulled the passenger door open for me, and I placed a finger on his chest.
“For winning for me.” I know he only wore that attire to make me feel like I was still an athlete or something, but the reality was as clear as glass to me—and just as painful as a broken shard stuck in my fingers. I was never going to run again, and I just had to be okay with that.
Almost everyone thought the only reason he wore the purple was to show off our relationship, but I like to believe that I know Harry better. He only wore that to make me a part of the game; he knows how much I love running.
“Why do you love running?” he questioned, as if that were some great mystery. But I answered him anyway.
“I love the idea of the wind forcing its way to my back as I let my mind wander about stuff that didn’t matter. I feel the lightest and freest when I run.”
He cupped my cheek and leaned down to meet my gaze. “You know it’s you forcing your way through the wind, right, baby?”
I spanked his hand away and laughed. Whatever it was—me forcing my way through the wind, or the wind forcing its way to push me back when I ran forward—I just loved the back-and-forth of it.
“Harry,” I called, and he raised a brow, his full attention on me. I had never felt this worthy. “You are doing a little too much for a man who claims not to love me,” I teased. He leaned in and kissed my lips as I melted into his arms. I expected him to break the kiss and let me know that he loved me, but that was surely a dream that would not come true.

Leone and I were playing the invisible game; we acted like the other wasn’t in the room. Not even when we all met up in Etsy’s bedroom to get ready, even after Chris forced me to make the pancakes I’d promised him.
Etsy was done installing my fake lashes; she even attached shining white and red rhinestones to my hair and applied some light makeup. I checked myself in the mirror—I was dressed in some short, distressed jeans that ended just below my butt, paired with a mesh-like long-sleeve top that left my back on full display.
“Perfect… you are super hot,” Etsy complimented as she slipped into her boots. She was dressed in a short gown that hugged her figure tightly—not tight enough to stop her from cheering for the guys tonight.
“You too.”
She rolled her eyes. “Believe me, Purple, you are too hot for a girl your age. Look at you breaking the hearts of all the guys in Roonie,” she laughed.
“The girls’, as well,” Leone added, as if I needed her opinion. I ignored her and slipped into my boots before turning to leave, but Etsy blocked my path.
“Okay, what’s going on?”
“She called me desperate,” I blurted out at once. How could she even call me desperate, all because I chose to be with Harry? Desperate would have been being with her even when I wasn’t into women.
“Leone?” Etsy turned to Leone, expecting an explanation, but Leone just sat there and said nothing. Of course.
I walked past Etsy to my bedroom to get my purse so I could enjoy the last racing event in Roonie before the break. I chuckled to myself because the first week I got here, I didn’t want to have anything to do with the racing events or be a part of the Rebels. But right now, I was dating the leader of the Rebel riders—Roonie’s baddest rider.
My phone rang, and I sat on the bed before connecting my mom’s call. “Hey, honey.”
“Mom.”
“You still love chocolate flavor, right? And do you need me to buy any extra stuff for your bedroom? I could do that before you arrive tomorrow… oh, or we could go shopping once you arrive, just us.”
She was just so excited about me coming home tomorrow that it left me feeling a little guilty for not matching her excitement. “I am good, Mom. See you tomorrow.”
