VOL II: BECOMING THE GOLDEN WITCH

WRITER’S POV

“Where are you taking me?” Luana asked, giggling.

“You’ll see,” the man holding her hand said with a cheeky grin.

He led her to a secret door in the garden.

As they stepped inside, Luana marvelled at what she saw. It was snowing! Right when it was sunny outside.

“This is incredible!”

The snowflakes danced around them as if they had a mind of their own. The entire atmosphere and environment were so different from the main garden.

Even the plants were different. It was breathtakingly beautiful.

“Do you like it?” the man asked as he watched her admire the garden.

“Like it? I love it! It’s beautiful.”

“It’s a snow garden. It harnesses very medicinal plants for healing unique diseases. It can only be found here.”

“No way! I’ve read about it, but I didn’t know if it was real.” She looked at the plants and smiled.

“They said the cold preserves their properties.”

“Yes, it does.” The man walked closer and wrapped his arms around her waist. “You can come and check it out anytime you like. The herbs are magical and can enhance magic, too.”

She turned around and wrapped her arms around his neck. “I’d love that. Thank you!”

She tipped onto her toes and gave his lips a quick kiss.

It caught him off guard, making his cheeks turn slightly red. Then he smirked. She was about to let go, but he pulled her back.

“Who says we’re done, Emerald?” Then he crashed his lips to hers.

Luana opened her eyes and sat up slowly.

She ran a hand through her hair and face-palmed herself.

“Was that a dream or a memory? And who was that man? His face was blurry.”

“And… we kissed?!” Her face was red.

She sighed. It’s been a day since she arrived in Calma.

She looked to her right and saw Kyla still sleeping.

Her cousin had given them a room to stay in and was to start training her today.

She got out of bed and walked towards a big-sized mirror in the room.

Brown hair…

Brown eyes.

“In the dream… or memory, I had dark hair and insane green eyes. It must be a memory, then. And am I slowly getting my memories back?”

She inched closer to the mirror and held her lip.

“Emerald?… Hmm… If it was a memory… then… was that King Ricc…”

“Lua?” Kyla grumbled as she got up from the bed.

“Kyla! You’re awake,” Luana said, sitting beside her on the bed.

“Yeah. I have a slight headache, though.”

“Oh dear, I’ll get you some water. Then, after that, you’ll lie back down and rest, okay?”

Kyla wanted to protest, but Luana insisted, and she caved in.

Her cousin’s fortress was a whole new world.

So different from anything she had ever seen, with or without her memories.

As she explored the garden-like abode, she felt a certain peace creep into her.

“You’re awake? I thought you’d sleep till tomorrow.”

She turned and saw her cousin reading a book while a white-and-blue kitten nestled in his arms.

“Good morning,” Luana said.

He closed the book abruptly and gently set the kitten down.

“Do you know who you are?” he asked, his stern gaze focused on her face.

She was taken aback.

“What… what do you mean?” she asked.

“Are you the daughter of the Supreme Lord? The daughter of an earth princess? A member of the Sisters Association? A witch?” He took a step closer. “Only if you know who you are can you possess the full power of the Golden Witch.”

Luana nodded. She was determined to do anything for her mother.

“I look forward to learning everything from you!” she said.

He picked up his cat again, and this time, a branch of a tree took them high up to the floating bookshelves.

“The power of a Golden Witch,” Aurelio began, “is far more complex and unique than you know. Books only ever mention them in small fragments, but the truth goes much deeper than that.”

He walked on the air with gentle strides.

“You carry the rare gift to manifest the powers of creatures like the werewolf, vampire, mermaid, fairy, ogre, and troll at will.

“You can also see deep into the future and deep, deep into the past. You are faster, stronger, and smarter than other witches a hundredfold. Your eyes turn golden when they sense immense danger.

“You are, in fact, a descendant of the Golden Sun God, harnessing millions of spells ever to exist.”

Excerpt!!

Luana and Aurelio had met each other before when they were kids. He used to visit them in Fiori with his parents.

Kyla loves apples. A lot!

When Luana left Vacuità, Riccardo started painting her. Before the kingdom was destroyed, his room was full of canvases with her portrait on them.

Enzo and Luana have shared risotto together before. The same one she refused to collect from Riccardo.

Mermaids in this world have a unique ability. They hear the cry of someone’s soul, especially when they are in deep distress. Andressa repeatedly heard Terra's soul cry—something not even powerful wizards can do.
