VOL II: BECOMING THE GOLDEN WITCH (2)

WRITER’S POV

“Wait, millions of spells? One of them's gotta be a spell to cure Mother, right?”

“Yes.”

“Then, let's get started. I'm ready.”

“Are you?” Aurelo asked, raising an eyebrow. “When you first were discovered as a golden witch, you were bound to a demon who wanted to use your powers, and then when you were finally free of him and were supposed to kill him, you didn't, leaving Uncle to do all the work.”

Luana scratched the back of her head. “So, that was what you meant by ‘What have I done?’”

“Exactly. Riccardo Castellano was a very dangerous demon that was to fulfill a terrifying prophecy.

“You had to stop him to prevent it, but you didn't. Instead, you fell in love.”

“And what's wrong with falling in love?”

Luana turned back and saw Kyla standing at the entrance of the Enchanted Fortress.

“Kyla! Are you okay?”

“I'm fine, Lua.”

“You don't fall for the enemy,” Aurelo replied coldly.

“Knowing Luana, I'm sure she changed him, and in fact wanted to help him.”

Aurelo scoffed. “Help him? An old demon?”

“Anything's possible if you put your mind to it,” Kyla replied.

Aurelo studied her for a while.

“Well, she messed up, and now we're here. And I won't let a runaway vampire princess lecture me on what is right.”

Kyla was taken aback. What was his problem with her?

“Guys!” Luana broke the tension.

“I might or might not have messed up, but that's in the past. What we need to focus on right now is how to save my mom.”

“You're right,” Kyla said.

Aurelo finally came down from the sky.

“Follow me. Both of you.”

“Why are the Distruzione so quiet? I would have expected them to attack by now,” Stefano said.

“True,” Harry began. “My radar hasn't picked up any unusual movements. What are they planning?”

Stefano sighed. “I wish we knew. But their main target is Luana; they won't let her regain her powers.”

“We can be rest assured for now. She's in good hands. The Ice Mage is very powerful and is also a Vercilli. She's fine where she is.”

All the while, Riccardo had been sleeping beside the campfire.

Suddenly, his brows creased, and he held his chest in pain, causing him to groan.

Harry turned around suddenly.

“What's wrong with Ric?”

They both rushed to him, trying to see what the problem was. When Stefano opened his shirt, his marks were spreading rapidly.

“Fuck! What's happening now?!”

“Harry, it's spreading.”

“Shit, shit, shit. This won't do.”

As the marks reached his neck, they felt a powerful gush of wind push them back, and a fog covered Riccardo.

“Ric! You okay?” Stefano asked, picking himself up from the ground and helping Harry up.

“Your Highness?!”

Nothing.

The fog slowly began to clear, and even though everything hadn't cleared, Stefano and Harry nearly jumped out of their own skins at what they saw through the fog.

Long white hair, red eyes, dark wings.

“No... no way.”

“It can't be... we destroyed him.”

A low laugh rumbled from the mist before it cleared fully.

“I told you guys that wasn't the last of me.”

“Raziel, what have you done with the king?” Harry asked, taking a stance to fight in case anything happened.

“What have I done?” Raziel raised a brow. He got up and walked towards them with gentle strides.

“I've just saved his life.”

Stefano conjured blue flame in the form of a bow and arrow.

“Jeez... Relax. I'm not going to attack you. If anything, I'm going to help you. Didn't you hear me? I just said I saved his life.”

“Do you really expect us to believe you?”

“No. But you've got no choice.” He let out a cheeky smile.

“You guys are lucky that that tricky unicorn didn't dissolve me fully. She had a foreshadowing of some sort and knew I would be useful.”

“What do you mean?”

“Come on, Harry, you're supposed to be the smart one here.” He cracked his neck and stretched his body. “Like I have always said, I am Riccardo, and he is me. So, in other words...”

“You're going to help Riccardo gain his powers,” Harry chimed in, finishing the sentence.

Raziel smirked. “Now you're talking.”

Stefano still didn't look convinced. Raziel raised a brow.

“Still not good for you, huh, spoiled prince?

“When you've seen your cousin cry out in pain throughout the night, you'll understand my behaviour.

“Everything I did was for the good of us, but it seems like that's not even what you guys want. So, I've given up,” he said, raising his hands in the air. “But Gramps isn't, though. He's been awfully quiet these past few years—too quiet, in fact. He didn't say a thing when Riccardo died.” Then he let out a loud laugh. “Poor Riccardo.”

Stefano's blood boiled. Harry placed a hand on his shoulder and shook his head.

“So, how do you plan on helping the king regain his powers?”

Raziel smirked, then created a portal in the air. After that, he cut his thumb with his long, dark fingernails and smeared it on the ground before the portal.

“Follow me,” he said, licking his thumb.
