A life away from drugs and guns
Long chapter ahead
"So you trying to tell me that, Mateo is Santiago's twin brother?" Andrew asked for the hundred and one time.
"Yes Andrew, apparently his mother left him there because she couldn't take care of them both but she came later on with their father and Mateo to bring him back but Santiago had already been adopted," Ruth explained.
She glanced at Santiago who was sitting quietly in the room, she knew that he was hurt, his mother chose his brother over him. She was scared that this would only add fuel to the hatred he had for Mateo.
Late at night, while everyone was fast asleep, Santiago and Ruth sat in their bed. Santiago hasn't spoken a word since they got back and his quietness was affecting her.
"How are you feeling Santiago?" Ruth asked.
"I don't know... I wasn't planning on meeting my parents because I didn't want to know why they gave me up, I didn't a fucking fuck about them but today finding out the reason why hurt like a bitch." He mumbled.
"I know you are hurt but this isn't as bad as it seems, I know your nemesis turned out to be your twin brother but you can work this out, why don't you Just talk to him and try to fix your problem."
Santiago scoffed, "This doesn't change anything. His parents were one of the people who killed mine, he has been using me to cover his dirty business, he kidnapped my sister and tried to do the same with you. Tell me how I can put this all aside and just welcome him. Remember I don't give a fuck about him and anyone from that shitty family. I only care about the family I have under this roof."
"Santiago mind your language... I'll just give you time to accept everything." She pushed herself forward and hugged him, gladly welcomed the hug, he needed it.
They stayed like that for a long time until he decided to cuddle her. She fell asleep, her soft breath fanning his face. He gently let go of her and stepped outside, he went outside to the balcony that linked the backdoor and the corridor.
He pulled out a cigarette and smoked it, he needed to relieve the stress he felt. Sofia who had stepped out to fill the water in her jar so the door open, thought one of the maids forgot to close it so she went there to do it. She was a little startled to see him.
"Hey," she stepped into his line of sight. "You look like a mess." She smiled.
"I know," he puffed out the smoke he had gathered in his mouth.
"I know you don't want to talk about this but let me just say it, I don't care who you are and what your parents did to us, you are still my brother and I love you. You shouldn't dwell on what you found out today, go back to the way you used to be." She placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Also you should know that your mood isn't doing Ruth good. She'd be sad because you are down and her mood will affect the baby so you should cheer up dear big brother." She pecked his cheek and left.
After smoking, he left for his room and laid down next to the woman who was carrying his child, he cuddled her and shut his eyes.
Meanwhile, Mateo was also lost in his own house. He had anticipated the day he'd reunite with his twin brother, today he was given the chance but he couldn't even be happy for finally meeting him.
"Why does it have to be Santiago?" He mumbled as he poured himself a glass of liquor and down everything in one go, this was his fourth glass.
"This isn't going to change a thing between us, I'm still going to take her and make sure you go to jail for drugs." He mumbled. He left for his room to continue his plan.
He is planning to kidnap Ruth regardless of her being pregnant with his twin brother, he still wants her. He planned on killing the baby but he can spare him or her for the sake of being his niece or nephew.
The next morning, Santiago had returned to his old self, he was no longer sulking. He had to pull himself together because of what Sofia told him, he didn't want to make Ruth sad.
"Ruth, why don't we go out today? We can go to the beach, just you and I. I want to spend quality time with you, it's been a long we spent time together." He caressed her cheeks.
"As long as I'm with you, I don't care where I'll be happy." She smiled at him.
Dera and Sofia just stared at them and smiled, they were happy that Santiago had returned to being himself again, it was a relief to see him like that again.
Santiago had promised to take Ruth out to the beach, she had expected them to leave for the beach in the morning but afternoon but here they are going to the beach at nine in the evening. She was worried but didn't voice it out, she trusted him so was waiting to see what he had installed for them.
They packed their car a distance away from the beach, she stared at him but didn't say anything, he just smiled and stepped out of the car and held out his hand for her to take which she did. He pulled out a blindfold and walked behind her, "Trust me and let me lead you." He muttered and tied her eyes.
He guided her, they walked for a little while before reaching a certain spot, she could hear the sound of the water hitting the seashore, the cold breeze made her shiver. He stood behind her and whispered, "We are here." She shivered again not because of the cold breeze but because of how close he was.
She could feel his warm breaths fanning her skin, she purred without even knowing causing her to chuckle. Santiago removed the blindfold from her eyes, and a little gasp escaped her lips.
She stood staring at the place, there was a table decorated with scented candles, and the place was decorated with lights. There was a tent at the shore. She turned to him and gave him a tight hug, tears stung her eyes but she blinked them away, she didn't want to ruin this moment with her messed-up emotions.
Santiago pulled a chair for her, she sat and murmured a 'thank you,' and he took his seat. A man dressed in a chef's uniform came wheeling a table filled with food.
"Thank you, Chef Daniel, and sorry for wasting your time, I'll take it from here. You can leave." The chef bowed and left.
Santiago stood up and served her the meal he had ordered the chef to make. They sat facing each other, eating the meal that was brought to them.
They quietly ate their meal, the sound that could be heard was the sound of their cutleries hitting against the plate and against each other and the sound of the sea. It was quiet but soothing, they didn't need to talk to each other because they understood each other.
After the meal, Santiago guided her to the beach sand, she took off her shoes before stepping on the sand that sunk beneath her feet. "Dance with me," Santiago said.
"But there's no music."
"We don't need music, listen to the sound of my heartbeat and the sound of the sea hitting the seashore. That's all we need."
Ruth smiled, she placed one hand on his shoulder and the other hand on his hand, and he held her waist. They danced to the sound of nature around them and their heart beat. It was beautiful, Ruth couldn't have asked for more, she was satisfied with this. They were away from this Mafia life, the life of drugs and guns, they were away from it.
Santiago stopped dancing, he pulled her closer and locked eyes with her. Both of them slightly panting through their agape lips. Santiago sealed their lips together, and the kiss started slowly but it heated, their tongues fought against each other they sucked on each other's lips fighting for dominance.
Ruth gave up and let him be in control, she welcomed his tongue and sucked on it. She held the collar of his dress while he held her waist. He pulled even closer, he left her lips and trailed down to her neck, and he sucked on her flesh.
Ruth shut her eyes and threw her head back, breathing through her parted lips, her grip on his collar tightened.
