The past part 1
........Years back......
On a cold night in the late hours of the day, a woman could be seen carrying a basket, clothes were stuffed in the basket to make sure the little one sleeping in it wouldn't be uncomfortable. She dropped the basket in front of an orphanage rang the doorbell and ran away, she hid behind a tree and watched a sister carry her baby inside the orphanage.
"I'm sorry dear, I know you didn't wish for this but I don't know how to take care of you and your twin brother all by myself, I just can't do it. I know this is unfair to you but there's nothing mummy can do." She sobbed.
A few years later, the woman who had dropped the baby in front of the orphanage decided to stop by it, she didn't come alone though, she had with her a man and a little boy.
"What do you mean he has been adopted?" She banged her hands on the table.
"This is what we do ma'am, we make sure children who were abandoned get to join a family who would love them." The sister replied, she didn't seem startled by her outburst.
"He wasn't abandoned, I just couldn't take care of him and his twin brother at that time but I'm here now, their father is here too, and we can take care of them both just fine."
"I'm sorry ma'am but there's nothing we can do, the child is happy now, we can't complicate his life with these things. And we can't disclose the identity of the family that adopted him." The sister said.
"But he is our son don't we have any say in this?" The man decided to speak up.
"I'm sorry but he is someone else's now, I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do."
With nothing left to do, they decided to leave. The sister watched them leave, she shook her head, and the parents turned to abandon their children and then come back as if nothing happened.
...... Present Year......
Inside the same orphanage, a sister who looked like she was in her late sixties sat in front of the TV screen watching the news. She has been following the case of Santiago De León since day one, she also knew who Santiago De León was, and she can never forget the child she picked up outside the orphanage that cold night.
The child she raised as her own before he was adopted, his aura was always cold like the night she picked him up. Even when he portrayed himself as Robert Pattinson, she knew he was the one because she was the one who gave him the name Robert.
"I think it's time I meet with you, my dear Robert." She mumbled.
Santiago sat in his office, he was going through some files in his when his phone rang, he decided to answer the call. "Hello?"
"Good morning Robby," he heard the familiar voice of the sister who took care of him, he breathed in and out. He has been dying to talk to her but he couldn't meet her because she would know who he was, he didn't want her to become bait.
"Good morning sister." He didn't conceal his knowledge of who she was.
"I can see you haven't forgotten my voice, I get the gift and money you donate every month, thank you for your support, Robby." She coughed.
"Are you okay sister? You don't sound so good." As he was talking, he was packing his bag, he wanted to go to her, to make sure she was fine.
"It's nothing child, I have a request, find time and drop by the orphanage, I desperately want to see you." She spoke.
"Of course sister, I drop the orphanage right now. You don't sound good, I'm on my way."
"No don't come today, don't worry I'm fine. Drop by tomorrow instead, I want to talk to you, I'd like you to meet someone." She replied.
Robert stared at the space in front of him, "Does it have any link to the woman who abandoned me?" He asked coldly.
"Just pass by the orphanage tomorrow please." She coughed again. Santiago shut his eyes, he had no choice but to accept, that she didn't sound good, and he couldn't risk her life because of the woman who abandoned him years ago.
"Fine, I'll drop by tomorrow morning, hang in there sister."
They spoke for a little longer before disconnecting the call. He stared at his phone screen wondering what she wanted to tell him.
"I hope it's not something that would ruin my day, you are the only reason I'm willing to meet anyone." He mumbled and dropped the phone. He decided to continue his work.
But although he tried to focus on the work in front of him, his head was far away. He remembered his days in the orphanage.
..... Flashback......
"Robby don't you want to play with your sisters and brothers?" A sister asked.
"I'd rather sit here, I don't like playing games, they are a complete waste of time." He replied coldly, the sister smiled.
"You are a strange child you know that right? But strange isn't a bad thing, it's good." The sister smiled.
"Sister, are you here to disturb my peace and quiet? If yes please stop, I'd like to be alone as usual." He spared her a glance.
"You are always cold, you are a special child. I knew this the moment I picked you up in front of the orphanage." Robby cleared at her, "Okay... Okay.. I'll leave you alone, enjoy your peace and quiet dear Robby." She smiled and left him on his own.
Robert stared at the other children as they were playing, they looked happy, they didn't look like children who were abandoned or children whose parents were no more in this world.
"Looks like you don't need them in your life just as they didn't need you." He muttered referring to the kids and their parents.
....End of flashback.....
"I didn't need you before and I don't need you now." He mumbled.
