Congressman's house

Congressman's house
When Myra stepped out of the hospital still in the hospital gown, her mother had fallen in a faint, and Aiden and Greg were still fighting it out.

As she walked down the hallway, a nurse tried to block her way, but she grimaced and slipped around her.

That was when she saw Donna.

Donna ran to her and took off her jacket, throwing it over Myra’s shoulder. “You should not be walking around, Myra.”

“Well, I am.” She said, surprised that the woman was still here. She thought she must have returned to her place of residence by now as it had been weeks since she had arrived.

“The congressman said to bring you to his house,” Donna said, and as Myra raised her phone up to look at it, Donna snatched it away from her.

“Don’t look at it.”

“What? Why.” Myra frowned.

“Just come with me. You will hear everything at the congressman’s house.”

“I don’t understand. What is going on? Where is Cal? I have to see Cal.” She said, even as Donna led the way to a car Myra presumed was her hired car.

“Just get in, Myra.”

“Not until you tell me something.” Myra stood still, her heart beginning to thump as she feared the worst.

Did something happen to Cal? Had he relapsed?

Had her falling been too much for his brain to bear, so he went into a coma again?

“He does not want to see you,” Donna said gently, but it still felt like she had forced a sword into her heart.

For one second, Myra stood frozen, her senses not working.

The only thing she was aware of was how brightly the sun was shining and how hot it felt on her skin.

She stood there, just staring, although she could see nothing in particular, the thump of her heartbeat deafening her.

Cal did not want to see her. That could only mean one thing: He had found out the truth.

She had not expected this.

Of course, she had not expected him to say he understood, or laugh and say it was all good either.

She had expected him to be angry, yell, curse, but she thought he would give her an opportunity to explain what happened.

She had not expected this absolute shut out.

He did not want to see her? How then could she explain that she loved him, and when she had slept with him, it was not for the mission?

That all the things she felt for him were true.

“Come,” she heard Donna say gently as her hands wrapped around her, and led her to sit gently in the passenger seat.

Her belly ached as she bent in and sat down.

“Donna. You have to help me.” She said as the woman came into the car through the driver’s side. “I have to talk to him. I have to explain.”

“I don’t think that is a good idea. You have to give him time.”

“But he has to know the truth to process everything accurately. I don’t know how he found out, but what he heard cannot be the whole truth.”

“Your ex emailed him after the video on the internet began to spread.” Donna drove away from the hospital onto the main road.

Myra frowned, “What video?”

“A lot has happened since your accident yesterday afternoon, Myra. You will find out all the details at the congressman’s house.”

“But I have to see Cal.”

“You really cannot, Myra. He would not even talk to the congressman, and has not come down from that penthouse since yesterday evening.”

Myra collapsed back to her seat in exhaustion.

What the hell had Aiden written, what lies had he told?

But she could not just give up as easily as that.

She had to get through to Cal. This was still the man she had the rare connection with.

If she could get him to listen and know that her feelings were all real and the motives behind them, he would understand.

After much pressure, Donna drove her to the Ciaran complex and stopped near the penthouse.

But Nico would not let her up since she had lost her access card.

He could not meet her eyes as he told her that Cal had given an order that she was not allowed in the house anymore.

Myra finally got in the car and cried all the way to the congressman’s house on the other side of the city.

She could not stop even though Donna offered comforting words, and told her she should be proud of all she achieved with the case.

That she helped the man clear his name forever, even though he was too blind with hurt to see it now, and that she burst one of the biggest drug cartels in the country, and had made certain that no one would ever get bullied at the Ciaran complex ever again.

But she could not stop crying.

She did not really care about any of that if she had hurt Cal so much in the process, and his daughter too.

How would little Nova handle the news that she would never see her again?

At the door of the congressman’s house, the old man hugged her, something she expected her father to do, and said how proud of her he was, and how very sorry he was about her baby.

She cried even more at this, and hated it.

The mission was officially over, and they would be moving to take her father down now, but she never found out who killed Valentina, and she had lost Cal forever.

There was nothing to be happy about.

The end of this mission did not feel as good as he thought it would be.

She was led upstairs to one of the guestrooms, where she spent her days healing, and staring out of the window and going over all her decisions that led her to this point.

Finally, she stepped down one evening and sat before a high-ranking officer that she never thought she would ever be able to meet personally in her lifetime.

She gave a full account of this mission with supporting documents on how her father had orchestrated it all.

Gilbert Dankworth, the man who had set up this meeting, sat with them and corroborated her story with evidence from his own private investigators.

It was agreed that she would have to resign, but she would get recognition for all her achievements.
