Chapter 64 This Can’t Be!
Just before I could respond, the door swung open, and my eyes landed on my mother. Her expression was one of shock and surprise.

“You! W—what are you doing here? How did you find my daughter?” she asked.

I wanted to speak, but Mattias quickly got up, facing her now.

“Mrs. Anna, I am here with your daughter because I love her,” Mr. Mattias said firmly, and I found myself nodding in agreement.

“And what makes you think you have that right? Despite all we did to make you stay away from her, you still found her? Why don’t you just give up? Why can’t you leave Shimma alone?!” My mother yelled. For the first time ever, I was shocked to see her this angry. But Mr. Mattias—he remained calm.

“Well, Mrs. Anna, I can’t give up on love. No one can, not when it’s true love. I love Shimma, and I’ll do whatever it takes to make her mine, with or without your consent,” Mr. Mattias said, reaching for my hand. I hesitated, fearing how my mother would react to seeing me hold his hand at that moment. But I took his hand anyway because I was ready to stand for what I felt.

I watched my mother's eyes land on our hands held tightly; it was as though it fueled her anger even more as she looked at me.

“So he was the one who sent those flowers and jewelry? And you had the guts to lie to me?” my mother said, her voice low.

“Mother, I didn’t want you to react.”

“Oh! You didn’t want me to react because you were going against your parents' will, right? Answer me!” she yelled, and I jerked in fear, letting out a soft gasp.

“You will not talk to Shimma like that! She is an adult, and she has the right to choose whomever and whatever she wants. She has the right to stand up for herself because her life is not yours!” Mr. Mattias said. I felt his grip on my hand become tighter as he spoke. He was obviously trying to suppress his anger.

“If you call this love, why then did you claim to love Pricilia? You convinced me that she was the right one, making her fall deeply in love with you, and one day, you just decided to dump her. How would you expect me to risk my daughter with you?!” my mother yelled again.

I frowned; the name sounded familiar. Pricilia was my mother’s younger sister; she lives in Dubai now with her fiancé. Wait! How come I never knew about this? Mr. Mattias dated my mother’s sister?

I quickly released my grip from Mr. Mattias's hold, his gaze drifting from my mother to me.

“Shimma, I can explain, please,” he said, reaching for me again, but I moved back, avoiding his touch.

I quickly ran inside, making my way upstairs as everything slowly began to blur out.

I fell onto my bed, unable to breathe, my mother’s words looping over and over in my head.

“If you call this love, why then did you claim to love Pricilia? You convinced me that she was the right one, making her fall deeply in love with you, and one day, you just decided to dump her. How would you expect me to risk my daughter with you?” God! No!

MR. MATTIAS' POV

I watched as tears streamed down Shimma’s face. She took a few steps away, her gaze filled with disbelief and disappointment.

Before I could say any more words, she ran inside.

I tried to pursue her, but Mrs. Anna blocked my view. “Now she knows how heartless you are,” she said. I frowned.

“But we all settled this. You knew it was your sister who caused everything. I never broke her heart; it was clearly…”

“Save your explanations, Matt. Even if we both know the truth, Shimma doesn’t, and right now, all that matters is that she will never believe you,” she said, a sly smile playing on her lips as she took a step toward the door, attempting to enter inside.

“This isn’t about her; it’s about you, right? You’re mad because—I didn’t accept you. You’re mad because I chose my best friend over your dirty wish. Have you ever thought about what he would do to you if he ever found out?” I asked. She turned to me, her brows furrowed.

“Well, have you ever thought about what he would do to you when I play my own version of the story, one that would make you a…” she paused, refraining from completing her words.

“Keep your mouth shut, and I’ll keep mine,” she said, finally walking inside and slamming the door.
