Chapter 41
Connor's POV
Originally, this time back to London, just want to investigate the truth of these things, by the way with Lydia home, to Wendy and Hope to prove our feelings, I did not expect to come to the Green house to hear the news that shocked me, and this news from Claire's mouth cracked all the doubts that lingered in my mind.
Peter is Claire's real father, so Claire's motive for helping him steal the company's secrets is obvious.
Looking at Claire's madness, I felt some pity for her, but I would not forgive her for hurting Lydia.
On the other hand, I was also worried that the crazy Claire would join hands with Peter to continue to do things to hurt Lydia, so I had to put the original plan on hold.
Just after Claire stormed out of Green's house, I spoke to the silent Green couple, "Now that we've all gotten the story straight and the misunderstanding cleared up, Lydia is handed back to you."
"Connor, what are you talking about?" Beside me, Lydia's eyes quickly filled with tears, and she could only keep her eyes wide open to keep them from falling.
I finally couldn't be bothered to say anything about breaking up with Lydia or anything else that would hurt her even more, so I just ungracefully left the unsure Mr. and Mrs. Green and a distraught Lydia behind and turned to walk out the door.
After leaving the house, I didn't go back to the cottage where I was staying with Claire, but went to the apartment where I live alone. I guessed she had probably gone back, and I didn't want to see her again, and give her a space to relax on her own.
Despite being out of work, I didn't stay idle when I returned to London. After checking my marital status, I learned that Claire had not signed the divorce papers, so I had to contact a lawyer to help me with the divorce, and on the other hand, I contacted Locke to tell him the latest news, so that he could have a clearer idea of the investigation.
It had been a week since I had seen Lydia, and I could only learn about her from the people who were secretly protecting her.
I heard that she does not do anything at home every day, just crying. Her little sister Amy went to her house to look for her, and she looked sickly and uninterested in anything.
Amy dragged her out and took her to a karaoke bar, where she cried at the beginning of each song and cried even more when the song reached its climax. In the end, there were almost no tears, only silent sobbing.
I was so heartbroken after listening to it, but had to be ruthless to keep cold feet because Peter didn't get my life in Washington and I was worried that he would turn on Lydia after he found out I liked her.
Lydia, please you must hold on, when I deal with these things will certainly explain to you clearly!
I thought silently in my heart.
Soon, I received a call from my bodyguard, who told me that Ivan had gone to see Lydia and that the two of them had talked for a long time in the room.
After I understood Ivan's feelings, I was not so disgusted with him, but I was still a little bit panicked that he was approaching Lydia at this time.
I was afraid that at this vulnerable time, Lydia would accept his liking and forget about me.
Lydia's POV
I was shocked when I heard Claire say that she had known for a long time that she was not mom and dad's real daughter. The sister who had been with me for more than ten years was only the adopted daughter of our family, so why mom and dad still treated her so well and neglected me since I was a child, I couldn't understand and I couldn't accept it!
I also can't accept that my mom ever betrayed my dad. I thought I grew up in an emotionally harmonious family, and today Claire told me that it was all an illusion.
Afraid that I would just pass out, I held tightly to Connor's hand, and Connor duly patted the back of my hand to comfort me.
In this moment, my heart settled down, even if I do not have a good family, I still have Connor, a person who embraces me and treats me well, to have such a partner, what more can I ask for?
After Claire rushed out of the house, I picked up the document she had dropped on the floor and read it, relieved that it was all a lie. Thank God, my family was protected. At the same time, I understood why my mom and dad were always so nice to her.
Just as I was thinking about how to talk to my mom and dad about Connor, Connor let go of the hand that was holding me tightly.
"Lydia will be handed back to you."
What do you mean, "handed back to you"? We've been through so much, it's been so hard to be together, and now he means to give up on me?
"Connor, what are you talking about?" I wasn't sure I had understood him correctly, and I tried to ask one more question.
And Connor, with his actions, answered me.
Looking at Connor's back as he turned away without saying a word, I couldn't help but wonder, "Is it because Claire is not our biological daughter? Who was he trying to get back at?
God returned a happy and harmonious family to me, and then took away the love of my life, am I destined to have only one love and family in my life? I couldn't help but ask myself this.
"What's going on with you and Connor?" The first person to ask was my mother.
By this time, my tears were falling uncontrollably, my sobs had taken all my strength, and I no longer had the strength to answer my mother's question, so I could only shake my head gently.
"Lydia, your hand!" Suddenly, there was another cry of alarm from my mother.
I looked down at my hand in bewilderment, and it turned out that at some point in time, my hand had been tightly clenched into a fist, and my nails had pierced the flesh of my palm, and blood was blotting out along the tips of my fingers.
"Go get some sleep first." Dad came over and patted me on the back, trying to take me into his arms.
Since I was a child, my dad has rarely been pleasant to me, and I've always felt like a child without a father, and I stopped being close to him long ago; he was probably just a man who was a little closer to me than a strange man.
Now emotionally hurt by a man again, this kind hug made me unconsciously want to avoid it.
The moment my dad's palm touched my back, I instinctively hugged myself and shrunk into an invisible corner.
Perhaps seeing me so scared, dad sighed and shook his head and walked away.
Mom, faced with such a me, perhaps also did not know what to say, also followed Dad and left.
The large living room was now empty and I was the only one, which finally made me feel a little more at ease. I started to cry out loud.
My heart was broken because Connor left. I couldn't understand why the person who was patting my hand a moment before suddenly put me down, and why the person who was saying "that's brave, baby" two days before turned around and left without saying a word.
I don't understand!
Every day when I wake up, I feel as if Connor is still around, and his scent is still around. This feeling makes my heart palpitate and makes me tremble, followed by tears that run out of my eyes without a fight.
Every night I can't sleep, as long as the lights are off and I close my eyes, his face will appear in front of my eyes. This time I can't help but take out my phone, search for company news photos, and search the Internet for all information related to him.
The serious him at the meeting, the polite and smiling him at the store opening ribbon cutting, the expressionless him caught by the reporter just off the plane, I zoomed in on the picture, not wanting to miss any hint of his expression. But when I looked at his picture, I couldn't help but weep silently until I fell asleep.
It's been a whole week now, and I can't help but feel sick to my stomach when I see all the food. Even if I can barely pick up a knife and fork, I only take two bites before I start to burp. It made me feel like I was only eating to maintain my basic physical needs so that I wouldn't disappear from the world.
My good friend Amy heard about my situation and came to my house to keep me company, but I didn't have the strength to entertain her anymore.
As much as Amy wanted to help me by taking me out to sing and trying to get me to vent, I ordered the song but couldn't sing it. As soon as I saw those mv's related to feelings in front of the song, as soon as the song came up with those words related to emotions, I couldn't help but think of him, remembering everything we went through before, remembering the happy days when I was in Washington, and started sobbing again.
"Don't you cry ......" Amy said to me helplessly.
I could hear her words, but I couldn't give her any response, only my tears were telling her how I was feeling.
Perhaps because I was still crying, her expression became pleasing again: "Then you cry, cry after this time, don't cry!"
I still couldn't give her any response, so I continued to cry.
After I cried all afternoon, Amy sent me home.
The next day, Ivan came too.
He came straight into my room to look for me, probably because Amy had told him about my situation yesterday, and instead of asking me what was wrong, as he usually did, he just opened his mouth to comfort me: "Connor won't want you."
"But he left that day without looking back ......" I cried again.
"He must have had his reasons for doing so, and as a man, I understand."
After Ivan said this powerful consolation, my heart began to have some expectations again.
I hope it's really like he said. I hope Connor will come back to me after he's done with his business.
My tears gradually collected, but Ivan in front of me was looking like he wanted to say something, as if there was something he wanted to say to me.
"If you have something to say, just say it, I can bear it all." I thought it was something related to Connor, so I looked at him with expectant eyes, hoping he would tell me.
"It's okay ......," Ivan said with a little loss in his eyes.
"I really especially want you to tell me." I sincerely looked into his eyes and said.
In this moment, Ivan clenched his fist and seemed to be struggling.
I shook his sleeve gently and pleaded with him.
"Why didn't you come over that day in Washington?" Ivan mustered up the courage to ask me the question.
Washington? I tried to remember as if there was such an event.
Just a few days before my mom flew to Washington to visit me, Ivan had mysteriously told me to make sure I went to see him in Streetside Park after meeting my mom, but I forgot about it that day when I was distracted by David, and after David left, I was so immersed in the joy of being liked by Connor that I completely left the matter behind.
Then, the Ivan in front of me continued with a courageous look, "If you had come over that day, things might have become different ......"
