Chapter 243 Absurd Second Personality
After getting off work at noon, Scarlett rushed to the location Phaedra had mentioned - a discreet private restaurant.
When Scarlett stepped into the private room, Phaedra was already there. She sat down across from her and said calmly.
"Mrs. Mitchell, if you want me to let Octavia off the hook, don't waste your breath."
Phaedra stared at Scarlett intently. She really was beautiful - not just in appearance, but also in her composed and calm manner. When she appeared, everything around her seemed to fade, making it impossible to look away from her face.
Compared to Scarlett, Octavia was nowhere near as impressive. Even though Scarlett was divorced with a child, Ambrose still wanted her instead of marrying Octavia.
Maybe it was precisely because Scarlett was too dazzling that Octavia had acted so rashly.
"Ms. Mellon, I'm just here to tell you that the person who hit you wasn't arranged by Octavia. It's all Ulysses talking nonsense. Ulysses has split personality disorder - he has two personalities."
Scarlett smiled coldly. "Mrs. Mitchell, given your position, naturally, you'd make excuses for Octavia. Even if Ulysses really is mentally ill, he wouldn't point fingers at his own family for no reason."
Phaedra shook her head. "You don't understand. Ulysses has two personalities. The first personality cares for Octavia, so to make you leave Ambrose, he choked you that night and then arranged for someone to hit you, trying to kill you. This triggered the awakening of his second personality, because his second personality likes you - likes you so much he'd risk his own life. So to get justice for you, he blamed what his first personality did on Octavia."
Scarlett knew Ulysses had two personalities, but she wasn't clear about the details of each. After hearing Phaedra's words, she found it hard to believe.
The first personality cares for Octavia, and the second personality likes her?
To save Octavia, Phaedra could come up with such a far-fetched story - she really was desperate to save her daughter.
"Mrs. Mitchell, if you want to make excuses for your daughter, you don't have to make it sound so ridiculous, do you?" Scarlett laughed coldly.
"No, Ms. Mellon, what I'm saying is true. Let me show you a video." Phaedra's expression was serious as she pulled out her phone from her bag, swiped around on it, then held it out in front of Scarlett.
In the video, Ulysses appeared, pacing back and forth in a room.
"If you dare lay a hand on her, I'm telling you, I'll make you all pay," he said viciously.
The next second, his expression changed completely.
"Octavia is my sister. I can't let my sister be wronged. She has to leave Ambrose. I don't care how much you like her, I won't allow her to hurt Octavia."
The next second, he jerked his head, returning to his vicious expression. "You idiot, have you forgotten how the Mitchell family treated you? I'm telling you, as long as I'm here, I won't let you hurt her. If you keep being stubborn, I'll destroy you all."
Watching Ulysses in the video playing two roles by himself, talking to himself, Scarlett was momentarily speechless.
This was her first time seeing what split personality disorder looked like. It was somewhat shocking and somewhat creepy.
So this was how Ulysses had split personalities - had he been living like this all along?
She just hadn't expected his second personality would like her.
It wasn't exactly scary, but she just found it quite absurd.
Phaedra kept watching Scarlett's expression, and seeing her shocked reaction, said at the right moment: "See? I didn't lie to you. Ulysses is mentally unstable and did this out of revenge."
Scarlett snapped back to reality. "But even so, what does that prove? Does it prove that Octavia didn't hire someone to kill me?"
Phaedra's hands on her knees were clenched tightly. Hidden by the table, Scarlett couldn't see them. She only heard her say very sincerely.
"Ms. Mellon, I know there's no evidence to prove this has nothing to do with Octavia. Your suspicion is normal. But if I had evidence, I wouldn't need to come find you. This really has nothing to do with Octavia. Please, you must believe me."
A cold smile crossed Scarlett's lips. "With just empty words, why should I believe you?"
"Even if Ulysses has split personalities, if his second personality is pointing fingers, then it must be the truth."
Perhaps seeing that Scarlett's words left no room for discussion, Phaedra couldn't hold back anymore and dropped all pretense.
"Ms. Mellon doesn't believe because you've already decided that your father going to prison was our doing, so that's why you're acting this way, right?"
Scarlett raised an eyebrow, unsurprised, and just smiled faintly. "Mrs. Mitchell, right now we're talking about your daughter breaking the law. Why are you bringing up my father? What are you trying to say?"
"Guilty conscience? Or are you trying to warn me that if I don't agree, I'm just taking revenge on you?"
Phaedra's expression froze. Surprised that Scarlett's mind was so sharp, she decided not to hide it anymore and got straight to the point.
"Ms. Mellon, don't act all innocent. Deep down, don't you believe that your father going to prison was because we, the Mitchell family, did something? You're holding onto the Mitchell family now just to get revenge, aren't you?"
Scarlett laughed in anger. She knew the Mitchell family could be unreasonable, but she didn't expect it to be this bad.
"So what you're saying is, your daughter hired someone to kill me, but I can't even defend myself, or else it's revenge against your family?"
"How full of yourself do you have to be to say something like that? Did I make Octavia hire someone to kill me, and then use it as revenge?"
