Chapter 207 Revealing Hayden's Background
The two stopped under a large tree in the kindergarten. Sunlight filtered through the gaps between leaves, falling in scattered patches on them both, it was quite beautiful.
Ambrose looked at Scarlett, her figure dappled with fragmented light and shadow, his eyes gentle. "Why are you suddenly asking about this?"
"Because yesterday, Octavia came to me, threatening me with Yara's background to drop the case. And today this happened, it can't be just a coincidence." She said thoughtfully.
Ambrose actually had his suspicions, but unfortunately, Iris refused to admit anything.
"I don't know if you're really investigating her or just trying to keep me calm, but what I do know is that Octavia isn't simple. When I strike back at her, I hope you won't interfere."
As soon as Scarlett finished speaking, Ambrose frowned. "You think I'd help her?"
"I don't know if you'd help her or not, but I know you're working with the Mitchell family."
The implication was clear, if something happened to Octavia, it would affect the project. Between her and the project, she knew which mattered more.
Ambrose laughed in frustration. At the end of the day, she just didn't trust him.
But he couldn't really blame her. His sudden partnership with the Mitchell family had shocked many people, so her doubts were understandable.
But regardless, he didn't want Scarlett going head-to-head with the Mitchell family. She would be the one to lose.
"Octavia has the Mitchell family backing her. Even though you have the Philip family helping you now, don't act rashly. I'll deal with the Mitchell family." That was all he could say.
Scarlett looked at him skeptically. "You'll deal with the Mitchell family? How? By sacrificing the Serene Bay Peninsula project?"
"I don't need to sacrifice the project. I have my own plan."
Scarlett stared at him steadily, her eyes full of doubt.
"Let's go. Take the kids back first and treat their injuries." Ambrose ignored her skepticism.
With that, he walked toward the car. Scarlett watched his retreating figure, hesitating about whether to tell him her theory.
If she just blurted it out like this, would he believe her?
She caught up with him, walking beside him as she tested the waters.
"When Octavia gave you Hayden, did you do a DNA test?"
Ambrose stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her. When he looked at people seriously, his deep eyes had a sharp, scrutinizing quality that made people uneasy. Scarlett felt this and explained.
"Last time I accidentally saw her looking at Hayden with a dark expression. Would a mother look at her own child like that?"
Ambrose was silent for a few seconds, then said, "You suspect the child isn't hers?"
Now that it was out in the open, Scarlett nodded, but added another sentence.
"But this is just my suspicion. After all, Octavia is cruel, she used to bully classmates back in school. Maybe it's just her nature, she has no feelings for the child, so it's not strange she'd look at him that way."
"You guessed right. Hayden really isn't her biological child."
The sudden answer left Scarlett frozen in place.
She had only been speculating, and Ambrose directly confirmed her speculation.
Was he just saying this to keep her calm?
Seeing her shocked and disbelieving reaction, Ambrose added another sentence.
"I only found out recently, because I'd been suspicious all along. Until recently, some of her behavior was very confusing, so I casually did a test."
This explanation dispelled Scarlett's doubts. Octavia really wasn't Hayden's mother.
"And you didn't expose her?" She asked.
"Now isn't the time to expose her, but in the future, I won't let her have much contact with Hayden."
Ambrose's words still left Scarlett somewhat incredulous. It all felt surreal, how did Octavia manage to take Hayden away?
Her scheming was truly terrifying, to think of such a method to get close to Ambrose.
But thinking that Hayden had nothing to do with Octavia, Scarlett felt both relieved and happy. From now on, she could interact with Hayden without any concerns.
"Do you believe me now?" Ambrose saw the change in her expression.
Scarlett composed herself. Even if she believed Hayden had nothing to do with Octavia, she still couldn't fully trust his dealings with the Mitchell family.
She remained silent and walked forward. Ambrose followed.
"Still don't trust me?"
"Whether I trust you or not doesn't really matter." Suddenly, she thought of a question and stopped. "Then who is Hayden's mother?"
Ambrose's expression was calm. "Still investigating."
She said thoughtfully, "Actually, it's not hard to guess. Octavia had her eye on you four years ago. She must really like you to use such a shocking method. I think you should just ask her directly, maybe you can find out where Hayden's mother is."
"If you find Hayden's mother and ask about what happened four years ago, you'll know if the Mitchell family set it up."
Ambrose said, "The Mitchell family is very complicated. Even if we have a falling out, we might not get the truth. To make them tell the truth, the Mitchell family must fall."
"But you're putting yourself on the line, that's a lose-lose approach. Is it worth it?" Scarlett asked back.
Ambrose heard the concern in her words and teased gently, "Worried about me?"

With that, she walked forward. He stood in the sunlight, smiling, his gaze affectionate, with a sense of helpless compromise.
The two reached the car. Cody and the two kids were inside, occasionally bursting into laughter. Ambrose opened the car door and called the two children out, telling them to get in Scarlett's car.
The two kids said goodbye to Cody and happily walked toward Scarlett's car.
"Ambrose, you need to win Scarlett over quickly. Do you know what she just came to me for?" Cody's eyes widened.
Ambrose asked knowingly, "What did she want?"
"Of course she wanted me to let her leave the company, to leave you."
Ambrose deliberately provoked him. "Who told you to say those things to her back then? Who else would she go to but you?"
Mentioning that incident, Cody felt guilty and couldn't argue back. He glared at him angrily. "You bastard, you think once I'm dead with anger there'll be no one to control you, right?"
"How could that be? She can control me."
Cody was angered again. He grabbed a pillow from the car and threw it at him. Ambrose caught it and laughed.
Finally, Cody left in a huff. Ambrose walked to Scarlett's car with a cold expression. Scarlett was applying medicated oil to the two little ones.
Scarlett's car always had various medicines, prepared for all kinds of situations with the children.

Hayden responded contentedly, "It doesn't hurt."
He felt that today's Scarlett was so gentle, gentler and better to him than ever before. He was so happy!
