Chapter 206 Backing
Scarlett rushed to the kindergarten and saw Yara in the teacher's office. Besides Yara, Hayden was there too, along with another little boy named Cruz Young.
All three children had injuries on their faces. Yara and Hayden's injuries were minor, but Cruz had it worse, with more wounds on his face.
"Mommy!" When Yara saw Scarlett, she immediately pouted, and tears of grievance rolled down her cheeks.
Scarlett hugged Yara with concern, "Where are you hurt? Let mommy see."
"Ms. Mellon, Yara got into a fight with Cruz and got hurt, but fortunately, the injuries aren't too serious," Anais came over to explain.
Scarlett knew Yara well. Under normal circumstances, Yara wouldn't start trouble. If she fought, it must be because someone provoked her.
She looked at Yara and asked, "Tell mommy, why did you fight?"
Nestled in Scarlett's arms, Yara felt safe and finally told the truth, "He said I don't have a daddy, that I'm a bastard. I do have a daddy. I got so angry that I hit him." She paused here, then continued after a few seconds.
"He hit me too. Later, Hayden helped me, or I would've been beaten to death."
When Scarlett heard the word "bastard," her heart skipped a beat. Why would a kindergarten child say such things?
The thing she'd been trying to prevent had actually happened at the kindergarten.
While she was lost in thought, a small figure appeared beside her. She looked up and saw Hayden, who was also injured.
Scarlett touched his wounds with concern and asked, "Does it hurt?"
Being cared for like this made Hayden incredibly happy. He grinned and shook his head, "It doesn't hurt."
Scarlett was touched. When trouble came, Hayden's first instinct was still to protect Yara, and he didn't back down even though he got hurt.
"Who hit my son?" Suddenly, a shrill voice came from the doorway.
Cruz, who had more injuries on his face, rushed to the woman, Iris Allen, who had just entered, and copying Yara, cried out pitifully, "Mommy!"
"How did you get beaten up like this?" When Iris saw the wounds on Cruz's face, her voice immediately rose. Perhaps feeling backed up now, Cruz immediately pointed at Scarlett.
"Mommy, those two beat me up."
Iris turned around, and after seeing the condition of the two children, she instantly felt it was unfair. But knowing Hayden's identity, she naturally didn't dare criticize him, only saying.
"Boys fighting is one thing, but a girl dares to hit people too, and beat my son up like this."
Anais came over to mediate, saying that Cruz had cursed first, which led to the fight, but Iris wouldn't let it go. She insisted that Yara apologize and that Scarlett pay the medical expenses.
Scarlett wasn't someone to be pushed around. She straightened her back, her gaze cold, "Your child insulted mine first. He should apologize to my child first."
This counterattack left Iris speechless for a moment, then she said.
"Children speak without thinking. Kids say what they see. That's a child's innocence. You can't beat people up just because Cruz said something you don't like to hear."
"Calling someone a bastard isn't innocence, it's malice. Or did his parents teach him that?"
Scarlett's attitude was firm. Seeing this, Iris also became tough, pointing at her.
"Children's eyes are clear. He thought she didn't have a daddy because he's never seen your daughter's father come to pick her up."
"Who says he doesn't have a daddy?" Suddenly, a thunderous, angry rebuke came from the doorway.
Everyone turned to see Cody walking into the office with his cane. His presence was commanding and imposing, making everyone hold their breath.
How did Cody get involved? He must be here to back up Hayden!
Only Hayden, seeing Cody, ran over happily and called out, "Great-grandpa!"
Anais hurried over and helped Cody to a chair. As soon as Cody sat down, he glared at the arrogant Iris and scolded her.
"Everyone has a father. Just because someone's father didn't come, your child says they don't have a father. That's just teaching kids bad things."
Facing Cody, Iris couldn't stay arrogant anymore and could only lower her head and play dead.
Seeing that Iris didn't dare speak anymore, Cody stopped scolding. Then he waved to Yara in Scarlett's arms, smiling warmly.
"Yara, come to great-grandpa."
Everyone was shocked again. This little girl also called Cody great-grandpa.
Yara, unaware of others' thoughts, climbed down from Scarlett and rushed to Cody's side, calling out in a sweet childlike voice.
"Great-grandpa."
Cody responded happily, then picked up Yara and placed her on his lap.
Everyone present was stunned. Cody hadn't even held Hayden, yet he was holding a child who wasn't from the Boleyn family?
Scarlett was also surprised. Cody liked Yara this much?
Cody paid no attention to their astonishment and only asked about Yara's injuries. After hearing Yara's complaint, he glared angrily at the arrogant Iris.
"How does your son know the word 'bastard' at such a young age? If his parents didn't teach him, who did?"
Iris flinched, but mustered up the courage to say, "Kids these days are really smart. They can remember whatever they see on TV after watching it once. These things must have been learned by Cruz from TV."
After listening, Cody looked sharply at Cruz, "Did you see it on TV?"
Seeing Cody's eyes, Cruz shrank back toward Iris in fear. Seeing this, Cody pressed him again.
Cody's presence was too strong. Cruz was scared and answered honestly, "No, mommy taught me."
Iris immediately reached out and spanked him, "What nonsense are you talking about!"
Cruz started crying, and while crying, he continued, "You told me last night that Yara is a bastard and told me to tell my classmates."
Scarlett immediately stood up from her chair, unable to believe it. Why would Iris teach Cruz to spread such talk?
Suddenly, she remembered what Octavia had said yesterday. Was this Octavia's doing?
"Ms. Walker, take the children out." A low voice sounded. It was Ambrose.
No one knew how long he'd been there, but he'd heard most of what Cruz said.
Anais led all three children out. Ambrose stood in the office, his whole body radiating a murderous aura, then demanded.
"Why did you teach your child to say such things?"
Iris panicked and quickly begged for mercy, "I just couldn't stand her, so I said those things."
Ambrose's face was stern, and he immediately threw out a threat, "As long as you tell the truth, your son can continue going to school here, and your husband's company won't be affected either. Otherwise, you know what the consequences will be."
Iris insisted, saying she just hated Scarlett and wanted to make her child unable to stay at school, so she said those things.
But Scarlett didn't believe it. She guessed that Octavia was behind this, so after leaving the office, she said to Ambrose.
"Ambrose, you said you were investigating Octavia's motives back then. How much have you found out?"
