Chapter 201 Kissed by Another Man
Scarlett leaned weakly against Vaughn as they hurried toward the exit.
Ambrose, coming from the opposite direction, spotted them. As the three were about to pass each other, Ambrose stopped and looked at Scarlett. Her face was very red—an abnormal kind of red. He knew this redness all too well.
Last time, when Scarlett had eaten something bad, she looked exactly like this.
"What's wrong with her?" Ambrose blocked their way.
Vaughn glanced at Ambrose, his gaze sharp. "Move."
Ambrose didn't budge. His eyes fell on Scarlett's face, then her body—the obvious marks on her neck, her missing buttons. What had happened to her was clear at a glance.
His expression instantly turned ice-cold. At that moment, Scarlett lifted her eyes to look at him, then spotted Octavia not far away.
"Move." Scarlett's tone was extremely cold.
At this moment, every extra minute of delay meant more harm to Scarlett.
Ambrose understood the severity and stepped aside, making way.
Vaughn helped her walk past. Ambrose stood there, watching their retreating figures, his eyes dark and brooding. If one looked closely, one could see the veins bulging on the back of his clenched hand.
"Does she look like she was assaulted?" Octavia said in shock, quickly grabbing a nearby police officer to ask.
"What happened?"
The officer recognized Octavia but didn't say much directly. "Not clear yet."
Just then, Ulysses walked out, accompanied by several police officers. Seeing this, Octavia hurried forward, asking anxiously.
"Ulysses, what's going on?"
Ulysses adjusted his glasses and glanced at Octavia. "Nothing, just a misunderstanding. Once we clear things up, it'll be fine."
Octavia knew better than to press further and stepped aside. But after Ulysses and his group took a few steps and reached Ambrose, Ulysses smiled darkly.
"Scarlett really is a beauty—her skin so smooth and soft. I finally understand why you won't agree to an engagement with Octavia."
His voice was neither too loud nor too soft, but everyone present heard it, carrying a provocative tone.
However, this provocation didn't make Ambrose explode on the spot. He remained expressionless for a moment, then, after a while, his thin lips curved into an unsettling smile.
"How did the Mitchell family end up choosing someone like you—more trouble than you're worth?"
Ulysses's face instantly darkened, his eyes murderous. But Ambrose simply walked forward, not sparing him another glance.
Seeing he hadn't gotten a rise out of Ambrose, Ulysses felt unwilling to let it go and called after him.
"As long as you don't marry Octavia, I won't leave Scarlett alone."
Ambrose didn't stop. Octavia caught up with him, following behind to explain.
"Ulysses likes Scarlett, that's why he said those things. Don't take it to heart."
"What Ulysses did has already broken the law." Ambrose's tone was icy. Octavia didn't seem concerned.
If Scarlett pursued this, things would definitely escalate, but Scarlett had no backing—there was no way she could make any real waves.
"Ambrose, this time, for Hayden's sake, please don't get involved. If you don't, nothing will happen. Our families just started working together, and I really don't want this partnership to be affected." Octavia deliberately mentioned the partnership.
Not mentioning Hayden would have been better. The moment she brought up Hayden, Ambrose's expression turned ice-cold.
"You think you're worthy of mentioning Hayden to me? I only agreed to this partnership out of respect for Hayden. I didn't pursue your scheming back then, but you people keep pushing my limits again and again. Do you really think I, Ambrose, can be threatened? If Ulysses affects the partnership, then cancel it."
After saying this, Ambrose added, "I've lost my appetite for this meal!"
With that, Ambrose turned and walked in another direction. Octavia stopped in her tracks, not chasing after him, but her expression was very unpleasant.
She entered the reserved private room, took out her phone, and made a call. When the other end picked up:
"Dad, Ulysses was taken away by the police."
"That useless fool," Indigo said coldly.
"I'll find someone to get him out, but it looks like he's not suitable for this position anymore."
Hearing this, Octavia immediately defended him. "Dad, Ulysses may have been impulsive, but he was trying to force Ambrose to agree to marry me. His methods went a bit too far, but deep down, he meant well for me. If we replace him, the next person might not be as loyal to our family and me as Ulysses is."
There were two seconds of silence on the other end before a response came. "I understand."
This meant Ulysses wouldn't be replaced. Octavia breathed a sigh of relief, then added, "But just now, Ulysses said some provocative things to Ambrose. Ambrose looked really angry and even mentioned canceling the partnership if it doesn't work out."
"I'll communicate with Ambrose and smooth things over," Indigo said.
"Thank you, Dad."
After hanging up, Octavia's expression darkened. From Scarlett's condition, Ulysses probably kissed or touched her, but they likely didn't have sex.
Still, this was good enough. Now that Ambrose knew Scarlett had been touched by another man, he would definitely mind.
Ambrose left Flavor Haven and got in his car. Before he could ask, Chase spoke up.
"Mr. Boleyn, Xander was watching. Ms. Mellon was only choked briefly—nothing else happened."
The car moved slowly. The temperature inside the carriage was extremely cold. Even though the scorching sun outside shone in, it dissipated into the icy cold.
"The marks on her neck are so obvious—does it only count as 'something' if she was choked to death?" Ambrose's voice was extremely cold.
Chase had no response. He had indeed seen the marks—they were very obvious.
"Since Indigo already called, why did Ulysses still make a move?" Ambrose thought of a key point.
After Caspian called the police, he had someone secretly notify Indigo, worried that something might go wrong. Yet something still happened.
"According to Xander's message, Ms. Mellon kept saying Ulysses couldn't compare to you. He got provoked, lost his rationality, and choked her."
Ambrose's grim expression actually improved slightly after hearing this, though only for a few seconds before returning to its murderous state.
Scarlett really didn't value her own life—in that situation, she still went and provoked Ulysses.
"What's the deal with Vaughn?" Suddenly, Ambrose thought of the man who had been supporting Scarlett.
Chase relayed all the information Xander had secretly sent. After listening, Ambrose fell into thought. After a long while, he said, "Go find Scarlett immediately."
Ambrose could tell she had taken something bad. Even if she went to the hospital, they might not be able to neutralize the drug's effects. He had to get there quickly.
Chase understood Scarlett's current condition and didn't dare delay. The car sped up even more.
On the way, Ambrose called Paxton. By the time he reached the hospital, Paxton had also arrived.
When the two walked into Scarlett's hospital room, the doctor was about to give Scarlett a sedative. Paxton immediately stopped him—if she was injected with a sedative, it could kill her.
