Chapter 200 Encountering Head-On
Ulysses didn't know that Scarlett had spat out the pill. Believing she would soon be affected by the drug, he didn't release her immediately, but stood at a distance, eagerly waiting.
Scarlett got up and covered her torn clothes. All the buttons were gone, so she could only hold it tightly closed with both hands. She picked up her bag from the floor and walked toward the door.
"Move aside," she angrily commanded the bodyguard at the door.
The bodyguard didn't budge.
Ulysses approached. "You just took an aphrodisiac. I advise you to stay in this room for your safety."
"Anywhere is safer than here with you," Scarlett retorted, then added, "Move aside. If you don't, when the police arrive, it will implicate Indigo."
From the earlier phone call, she guessed that someone must have reported directly to Indigo. Otherwise, Ulysses wouldn't have stopped.
"Threatening me won't work. I'm telling you, I didn't touch you."
Scarlett glared at him angrily. "My clothes are torn. Who do you think the police will believe when I get to the station?"
Ulysses noticed that Scarlett's face showed no changes. His eyes narrowed behind his glasses. By now, the drug should have taken effect, but she seemed completely unaffected.
Seeing that he wouldn't let her pass, Scarlett reached into her bag, secretly grabbed her phone, and dialed a number. The call connected quickly.
She called out, "Vaughn, I'm being held by Ulysses at Flavor Haven."
"Scarlett!" Ulysses quickly stepped forward, snatched the bag from her hand, pulled out the phone that was still connected, hung up, and then violently smashed the phone on the ground.
He glared at her furiously. "No one can save you now."
Scarlett's lips curved slightly. "Let's wait and see."
Ulysses observed Scarlett's expression. She showed no fear, nor any flushing that would indicate the drug was taking effect. He moved closer and grabbed her hand.
"You spat out the pill?" He questioned.
Scarlett scoffed coldly. "You're just realizing that now? No wonder you can never outdo Ambrose."
A sudden ferocity rose in Ulysses's eyes behind his glasses. He hated most when people compared him to Ambrose, especially when they said he wasn't as good as Ambrose.
He grabbed Scarlett by the throat and said viciously, "Don't think I would dare to hurt you!"
"Of course, there's nothing you wouldn't dare to do. But Ulysses, do you think your cruelty can compare to Ambrose's?"
She laughed coldly. "Your viciousness is just the behavior of a brute. Ambrose's viciousness combines courage with strategy. You're nowhere near his level."
Ulysses narrowed his eyes. "So you've always looked down on me?"
"It's not just me who looks down on you. Among those around you, who truly respects you from the bottom of their heart?" Scarlett's words became increasingly sharp, stabbing directly at Ulysses's core.
She wasn't worried about Ulysses hurting her anymore. Now she was just waiting for Vaughn to arrive. She wanted to thoroughly provoke Ulysses, preferably to the point where he lost all reason, which would stir up trouble within the Mitchell family.
Ulysses's pupils contracted more and more, and the force of his grip increased. Soon, Scarlett found it difficult to breathe, but she didn't stop.
"Angry because you're outmatched? You don't even dare to be compared. You're a weakling who will never measure up to Ambrose. You still want me to be with you? Keep dreaming!"
The word weakling was like a curse pressing down on Ulysses's head, making him furious to the point of bursting.
Since he was a child, he was ridiculed as a weakling by the other brothers of the Mitchell family and suffered all kinds of oppression. In order to become a strong man, he humbled himself, endured all kinds of inhuman tortures, and after lying low for many years, he finally trampled all those who had bullied him under his feet.
The nightmares of the past had just been swept away, and now Ambrose was overshadowing him again, as if pushing him back into the thorns. At this moment, Ulysses's bespectacled face became maniacal, and the force of his hands grew stronger.
Xander, who was holding Scarlett, quickly spoke up to warn him.
"Mr. Mitchell, you're going to strangle her to death."
Ulysses had lost all reason by now and couldn't hear anything. Xander hurriedly tried to pry his hands open.
Ulysses had gone mad and wanted to strangle Scarlett to death.
Scarlett's face had turned purple. Under Xander's rescue efforts, Ulysses finally released his grip. She coughed and backed away.
Ulysses truly wanted to kill her.
It was her last words that triggered his dramatic change. Was he so concerned about not measuring up to Ambrose? Or was there another reason?
There was violent knocking at the door.
Before the other bodyguard could open it, the door was forced open. Vaughn rushed in with police officers behind him. Vaughn immediately rushed to Scarlett.
"Scarlett, are you alright?"
He helped her up from the floor, his eyes full of concern.
Scarlett covered her chest with one hand and her neck with the other, gasping for air, looking like someone who had suffered inhumane treatment.
A cold aura emanated from Vaughn. He set her down, stood up, and rushed to confront Ulysses, grabbing him by the collar.
"You've bullied her time and again. Do you really think she has no family?"
With that, he swung a punch. After this blow, the police officers present quickly stepped forward to restrain Vaughn, preventing him from striking again.
Vaughn pointed at Ulysses and issued a stern warning.
"Don't think that because the Mitchell family has someone in power, you can treat her so recklessly. I'll make you face the consequences."
After saying this, Vaughn returned to Scarlett and helped her up.
"Can you walk?" He asked.
Scarlett nodded without speaking because her throat hurt too much. She felt her throat must be injured.
Vaughn helped her to the sofa. Her body had begun to heat up, with waves of heat rising from within.
She guessed it must be from the pill Ulysses had forced into her mouth. Although she had spat it out, the pill had stayed in her mouth for a while, and the dissolved portion hadn't been completely expelled. Though the amount was small, it still had an effect.
She was trembling with heat. Vaughn noticed her discomfort and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Vaughn, I don't know what he forced me to take, but I feel terrible now." Scarlett's voice was hoarse; her throat had been injured from the choking.
Vaughn immediately understood and rushed back to Ulysses, but was blocked by the police. He could only point at him and ask, "What did you feed her?"
By now, Ulysses had regained his senses. Seeing Vaughn, he realized that Scarlett now had the Philip family as her backing.
Vaughn had recently returned and held a high position in the military.
At this point, Ulysses didn't dare to be careless, but he insisted that he hadn't given her any drugs. After all, only his people had seen him feed her, apart from Scarlett herself.
Vaughn gave him a piercing look but said nothing. He went back to Scarlett and helped her up.
"Let's go. I'll take you to the hospital."
The police officers also recognized the situation and assigned one officer to follow them, while the remaining officers kept watch over Ulysses.
Vaughn supported Scarlett as they left the private room and headed straight for the exit. Caspian, who had been waiting at the entrance the whole time, approached them.
"Ms. Mellon, are you alright?"
Vaughn glanced at him and said, "Does she look alright to you? Please step aside."
Caspian could see that something was wrong and didn't dare to delay them, so he moved out of the way.
However, just as the two reached the entrance, Ambrose and Octavia approached from the opposite direction.
