Chapter 140 Eavesdropping Together
He originally thought that Amelia would at least care about his love life abroad as she used to, asking if he liked any girls. Unexpectedly, she just casually told him to bring his girlfriend back to meet her, as if he were just an ordinary younger brother.
"Okay, I got it," Everett said, lowering his head, trying hard not to let his emotions show.
In the banquet hall, Dorian and Gabe quickly negotiated their collaboration project, finalizing several key details.
"Gabe, here's to a successful partnership," Dorian raised his glass.
"Mr. Talbot, I hope we have more opportunities to work together in the future," Gabe beamed, clearly very pleased with the collaboration.
After the pleasantries, Dorian turned around but didn't see Amelia. Where did she go? She was just standing quietly by the side a moment ago, and now she was gone? A wave of inexplicable irritation surged in his heart.
He walked through the crowd, scanning every corner of the banquet hall, and finally found her in a secluded spot in the garden. She seemed to be chatting warmly with a young man in a white suit?
Dorian's eyes darkened, and he strode towards them. As he got closer, he recognized the man as Everett.
And the white suit Everett was wearing stung his eyes.
The pure color, the orchid patterns interspersed, all matched Amelia's dress perfectly, like a couple's outfit!
A surge of anger burned in his chest. Amelia had lied; she said this outfit was for Alaric, but it was actually on Everett!
Dorian walked up to them, his tone icy, "Wasn't this outfit supposed to be sent to Alaric? Why is it on him?"
The sudden questioning left Everett and Amelia stunned.
Everett's smile froze, and Amelia frowned slightly, not expecting her lie to be exposed so quickly.
Amelia quickly adjusted her expression, her tone calm, "The Obelon family and the Stevens family have always had a good relationship. Maybe someone from the Obelon family later gave it to Everett."
She tried to make her explanation sound natural, but her fingers tightened unconsciously around her wine glass.
Dorian sneered, his gaze sharp, staring straight at Amelia, "Is that so?"
Amelia's heart tightened, Dorian's gaze seemed to pierce through everything, leaving her nowhere to hide.
Everett looked at Dorian, then at Amelia, sensing the tension, and quickly tried to smooth things over, "This suit was custom-made by Mr. Ford for me. I asked the Obelon family to help pick it up, not knowing it would pass through Amelia's hands. If I had known, I would have picked it up myself."
Everett wanted to say more but was interrupted by a waiter who hurried over, "Mr. Stevens, it's time for your performance. The audience is waiting for you." He gave Amelia a helpless look and had to leave with the waiter.
Dorian grabbed Amelia's wrist and pulled her away without a word.
Amelia stumbled a few steps, almost falling, her high heels making urgent sounds on the floor.
"Dorian, what are you doing!" Amelia struggled hard but couldn't break free from his iron grip.
Dorian ignored her resistance, dragging her through the crowd to a corner lounge in the banquet hall.
The door slammed shut. Amelia was startled by the sudden action, shaking off Dorian's hand, rubbing her wrist, and glaring at him, "Dorian, are you drunk!"
Dorian's eyes were deep, and he stepped closer to Amelia, pinning her against the wall, his hands on either side of her, forming a trapping posture. He looked down at her, his tone low and dangerous, "Amelia, what other secrets are you hiding from me?"
Amelia's heart skipped a beat, a chill running from her feet to her head. Dorian's gaze was like a sharp blade, as if it wanted to cut her open. She instinctively wanted to escape but was firmly trapped by him.
"What do you mean?" Amelia tried to stay calm, but her voice trembled slightly.
Dorian's breath brushed against her face, carrying a faint scent of alcohol and an oppressive feeling. "What is your relationship with Everett? And Alaric, what is your relationship with him?"
His voice was hoarse and low, with a hint of barely noticeable anger.
Amelia took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. She pushed Dorian away forcefully, putting some distance between them, her tone icy, "Dorian, I'm just making friends. Why are you angry?"
She met Dorian's gaze without flinching, "You have so many women around you, so many socialites outside, all eyeing you. I just talk to a few friends, and you react like this?"
"What, Mr. Talbot, you can have women, but I can't have male friends?"
She paused, then added, "Don't forget, our relationship is just an agreement. I have no obligation to report my private life to you. You have your secrets too, right? Dorian, don't overstep."
Dorian's mind was a bit sluggish, the alcohol making him slow.
He stared blankly at Amelia, the coldness in her eyes stabbing at him like an ice pick. He suddenly realized he might have been too hasty. His questioning earlier now seemed unreasonable.
Since when did he care about these things?
"This month, your rent is deducted by a million dollars," Dorian stiffly changed the subject. Deducting money was the only way he could think of to save some face.
Amelia seemed to hear a joke, a mocking smile curling her lips. "Dorian, can you stop being so childish? Causing trouble just to deduct money? Do you think a million dollars can restore your pathetic self-esteem? If you can't handle it, don't play."
Dorian, embarrassed and angry, laughed in exasperation. "A million dollars? I don't even care about that. Amelia, don't flatter yourself."
His chest heaved violently, trying to suppress his surging emotions. Amelia was getting more and more audacious!
Just as the two were at a stalemate, the door to the lounge made a slight turning sound.
Dorian's expression changed, and almost instinctively, he pulled Amelia, hiding behind the heavy curtains. In the small space, they were pressed tightly together, almost feeling each other's breath.
The sudden sound of the door opening made Amelia's heart race. She held her breath, not daring to move.
"Come in, right here." A coquettish female voice broke the silence of the lounge.
Then, the crisp sound of high heels clicking on the floor approached, stopping not far from the curtains.
"Why did you bring me here?" This was another voice, lazy and nonchalant.
"Don't think I don't know, you want to play with that bitch Amelia!" The coquettish voice was filled with malice. Amelia immediately recognized it as Nora's voice.
"What do you mean?" The lazy voice had a hint of amusement, dragging out the words.
Nora took out a delicate little bottle from her purse, shaking it in front of Wilder, "This is good stuff. Just a little, and she'll be obedient. Then, you can do whatever you want."
