Chapter 75
In the afternoon, I was cleaning the house.
My phone suddenly buzzed. I glanced at it. It was a money transfer from Jason.
The string of zeros behind it shocked me.
I counted carefully, two hundred thousand dollars in total.
Why was he suddenly sending me money?
While I was thinking about it, Jason's message came through.
Jason: [This is the compensation from the used car dealership. Take it.]
Then came a second message.
Jason: [I put in quite a bit of effort to get this, so if you really want to thank me, you can give me a key to your place.]
I only paid twenty thousand for that car, how could the compensation be two hundred thousand?
It was probably Jason's own money.
I didn't even know what to reply, so I just closed my phone.
After spending the whole afternoon cleaning up the house, my mood improved.
Just as I lay down to sleep at night, I heard what sounded like someone knocking on the door.
I was too lazy to even open my eyes, rolled over, and kept sleeping.
I must have heard wrong.
After all, the soundproofing here really wasn't great.
But the knocking continued for several minutes without stopping.
Half-asleep, I thought maybe I should mention this to the landlord tomorrow.
It was really affecting my sleep.
Just then, my phone rang.
The pale screen light instantly tore through the darkness.
I squinted, trying hard to see who was calling.
"Jason..."
I muttered, couldn't help frowning, and said quietly, "Calling me this late at night."
The phone kept ringing.
I sighed softly and still answered it. "Hello, what is it?"
"Open the door, I'm outside." Jason's voice came through clearly from the other end.
I opened the door to a strong smell of alcohol.
I frowned and asked, "You've been drinking?"
Jason's eyes were hazy. Hearing this, he shook his head and gave me a sexy, alluring smile.
He didn't say anything, just walked past me straight to my bedroom.
"What are you doing?!" I quickly closed the door and hurried after him.
Worried about waking Jessica, who was already asleep, I had to keep my voice down as I questioned him.
Unfortunately, such a voice had no power over a drunk person.
Jason rushed into the bedroom, kicked off his shoes, and fell straight onto my soft bed.
He hugged the blanket tightly with both arms, a happy smile on his face. "Smells good... so soft... love it..."
I stood by the bed, too angry to speak.
I took several deep breaths before gradually calming myself down.
"Jason." I walked to the bedside, looking down at him, trying to stay calm. "Go back to your own place."
"I don't want to," Jason said with pouted lips, turning his head to smile and wave at me. "Sue, come here, let's sleep together."
As he spoke, he moved over to make enough room for me.
Jason patted the space beside him, smoothing it out, looking at me. "See, this way it's just right for sleeping, come on."
I stood there without moving.
But looking at Jason's drunk face, I couldn't help spacing out.
Back when Kean and I were still together.
Sometimes when he got drunk at business dinners, he would cling to me, nuzzling my face with his fuzzy head, calling my name over and over.
I was really happy then, believing that Kean only had me in his heart.
But the sweeter the past was, the more painful it is for me now.
I lowered my head, avoiding his gaze.
We had already broken up.
Five years ago, we should have completely separated and never seen each other again.
Jason was very tall, and now, in his drunk state, I had no strength to get him off the bed.
I sighed.
Fine, just let him sleep here.
I opened the closet, took out new bedding and a pillow, and just as I left the bedroom, Jason hurried out after me.
He blocked my way, looking down at me, asking, "Where are you going?"
"You sleep in the bedroom, I'll sleep in the living room," I said.
After all, we were just exes now, how could we sleep in the same bed?
Jason pressed his thin lips together, his deep eyes staring straight at me. "No, sleeping on the sofa isn't comfortable."
As he spoke, he came closer to hug me.
I stepped back to create distance, and glared at him fiercely, warning, "Drunk people don't get a say in this house! You'd better behave! Or I'll throw you out!"
Jason hung his head pitifully, looking all wronged.
I took a deep breath, trying hard to stay calm.
Holding the bedding, I tried to walk forward, but Jason blocked my way and wouldn't move.
I said coldly, "Don't block me."
"The sofa isn't comfortable to sleep on. You sleep in the bed, I'll sleep on the sofa." Jason said clearly.
I didn't want to talk to him, silently trying to get past him.
The next moment, my waist tightened, and Jason lifted me up entirely.
He picked me up along with the bedding and carried me back to the bedroom.
I stared wide-eyed in shock, desperately holding back the scream at my lips!
"Put me down! Are you crazy?!" I hit Jason's back.
Not only did he not let go, but he held on even tighter.
His familiar scent filled my nose, mixed with the strong smell of alcohol.
My heart was beating out of control!
He was drunk, we wouldn't...
I held my breath, instinctively closed my eyes, and even my breathing was trembling.
Jason walked very fast, but put me down on the bed very gently.
I curled up, not daring to look at Jason.
Suddenly, the bedding in my arms was gone - Jason had taken it.
My eyelashes trembled, and I looked up at him in confusion.
"You sleep in the bed, I'll sleep on the sofa," Jason answered seriously.
After saying this, he took the bedding and left with his long strides.
There were rustling sounds from the living room, and soon everything became quiet.
I sat on the bed, hugging the blanket for a while before lying down to sleep again.
The next day, I got up later than usual.
When I came out of the bedroom, Jason was already awake.
Jason was leaning lazily on the sofa, looking up to meet my eyes calmly.
I pressed my lips together, then heard a surprised and excited voice, "Uncle Jason?"
When Jessica saw that Jason was here, she ran over to him.
"Jessica, good morning." Jason ruffled Jessica's hair.
Watching the two of them getting along so well, I didn't have the heart to kick Jason out right now, so I turned and went to the kitchen to make breakfast.
During the meal, I looked at Jason and said, "Mr. Cooper, can I ask you for a favor?"
