Chapter 74

Chapter 74

I saw everything Lily mentioned.

Jason has done a lot for me, but the more he does, the more uneasy I feel.

I sighed and said, "He shouldn't be here."

Seeing Lily's confused look, I explained quietly, "The gap between our backgrounds is too big. In the future, when he really gets married and has kids, he should find someone from a similar background. We're not equal in status. Even though he's trying every way to fit into my life, it's all based on him loving me."

I paused and took a deep breath before continuing slowly, "But what if one day he stops loving me? What should I do then?"

I didn't want to go through what happened five years ago again.

The pain of losing someone was too much.

Lily patted my shoulder and said, "I understand your worries, but at least he loves you now."

She opened my hand. My hands weren't particularly smooth. They had calluses from hard work.

Lily said, "Look at it from another angle. Jason loves you very much right now. If you two get back together and marry, both you and Jessica can get the best resources."

She looked into my eyes and added, "Marriage is fine, but you need to set conditions and sign a contract with Jason beforehand. If Jason stops loving you or lets you down, you should get compensation. When it comes to marriage, you can't afford to lose out."

This was something I had never considered.

After reuniting with Jason, what I thought about most was how to keep my distance from him.

As for getting back together and marrying him, I didn't dare to think about it.

Seeing me stay silent, Lily said anxiously, "Don't just keep quiet! Think carefully about what I said. Doesn't it make sense?"

"Come on, compared to Jason, the jerk who let me down, deserves to die! Every time I think about that jerk, I feel like such an idiot!"

Lily huffed angrily through gritted teeth.

She chatted with me for a while longer, and seeing it was getting late, she finally left.

I sat alone on the sofa, thinking about what Lily had said.

While I was thinking, Jason came out after washing the dishes.

He sat down next to me without saying anything, just looking at me seriously.

His stare made me uncomfortable, so I said, "Shouldn't you go home? We need to get ready for bed."

"Your hand is injured, you can't get it wet," Jason repeated again. He leaned over eagerly, his fingers gently tugging at the corner of my clothes. "So let me help you shower. Don't worry, I absolutely won't do anything inappropriate."

I was speechless.

"I'm going to bed!" I felt my face turn red instantly and pushed Jason toward the door.

"Wait!" Jason quickly stopped me.

He rushed to the kitchen and picked up the trash bag.

Before leaving, he stood at the door, looking at me regretfully. "Won't you reconsider? I'm serious, and I'm really good at scrubbing."

I closed the door with a blank expression.

The next day was a day off.

I took Jessica out.

A new supermarket had opened nearby. The grand opening had lots of discounts, and the store was packed with people. I had to hold Jessica's hand tightly to make sure we wouldn't get separated.

The discounts here were really good. My eyes lit up as I started shopping.

Daily necessities, consumables, and some convenient items that could be stored...

Pushing the cart full of items to checkout, I felt proud and happy.

This saved so much money!

The prices were only two-thirds of what they were at the previous supermarket!

When I took out my phone to pay, I saw that Jason had called me over a dozen times.

Because the supermarket was too crowded and noisy, I hadn't heard the phone ring.

After getting back to the car with the shopping bags and things quieted down, I called him back.

The phone was answered as soon as it rang. Jason's voice, clearly angry, came through, "Where are you right now?"

I didn't quite understand why Jason was angry, so I said, "I'm out. Did you go to my place?"

"Who are you with? A man or a woman?" Jason asked.

I took a deep breath and answered patiently, "A new supermarket nearby had a grand opening with big discounts. Jessica and I came to buy things."

"Just the two of you?"

"Yeah."

Jason's voice relaxed noticeably. "Send me the address, I'll come pick you up."

"No need, I drove here." I refused and hung up directly.

When I drove to the neighborhood entrance, I saw Jason standing by the road waiting from far away.

Seeing us arrive, he stepped forward and lifted Jessica out of the car.

I turned to get the things from the trunk, but Jason beat me to it.

Jason looked down at me without saying a word.

He was clearly still angry.

I really didn't understand what there was to be angry about.

Feeling helpless, I had to explain, "The new supermarket was too crowded and noisy. That's why I didn't hear the phone."

"I waited here for a long time." Jason finally spoke, his voice full of grievance. "I stood at your door and knocked for ages with no one answering. I called you, and you didn't pick up either..."

A rare sense of guilt rose in my heart.

Jason looked at me deeply and finally stated his real purpose, "So give me a key. Next time I come over and no one's home, at least I won't be locked out."

I looked away, choosing to ignore him.

Jessica followed beside me, covering her mouth and giggling.

Back home, Jason put the things we bought on the dining table.

When I was organizing them, Jason wanted to help, but he didn't know where things went, so I sent him to keep Jessica company.

After putting everything away, I had just stepped into the kitchen to cook when Jason immediately followed.

"Don't cook. The wound on your hand hasn't healed. I've already ordered delivery from a hotel restaurant. It'll be here soon."

Jason didn't give me any chance to refuse.

I wanted to say I'd give him money for the meal, but seeing Jason's warning look, I quietly shut my mouth.

After lunch, I was struggling with how to deal with Jason if he didn't leave.

Jason's phone rang.
