Chapter 32
I made a warm dinner together with Jessica.
During the meal, Jessica looked at me and suddenly asked very seriously, "Mom, can't you and Dad really make up?"
I paused mid-bite and sighed inwardly.
Sure enough, Jessica had heard our argument at the door earlier.
I ruffled Jessica's hair and said gently, "Jessica, I can't explain this to you. Because it's a very complicated matter between adults, but I can promise you clearly that no matter whether Mom and Dad are together or not, you are our most precious treasure."
"Whenever you miss Dad, you can go see him. I will one hundred percent support your decision."
Jessica blinked, then suddenly jumped down from her stool, ran over and hugged me. "I will always love Mom, too."
I held Jessica's soft little body in my arms.
She really cares about Jason. I need to find time to talk to Jason about this properly.
The next day at work, Terry called me to his office.
As soon as I walked in, I saw Jason sitting on the reception sofa.
Terry ordered, "Ms. Wilson, Mr. Cooper is very interested in DT Corp. Take Mr. Cooper on a good tour of the company today. You can have lunch outside, no need to rush back."
Time and again, he's made me deliver documents to Glacier Corp, and now he's making me keep Jason company here.
I know Terry's intentions very well, and they disgust me.
But he's the chairman. Even Brian has to bow to him, let alone an ordinary employee like me.
I lowered my head and replied respectfully, "Yes, Mr. Ethan."
I took Jason on a tour of DT Corp.
Glacier Corp is so much better than DT Corp. I really don't know what he could find interesting here.
After walking for a bit, Jason stopped and said, "I'm a bit tired from walking. Let's find a place to rest."
I had no objection and asked, "How about the café downstairs?"
"Sure."
I'd been wondering when I could find a chance to talk properly with Jason.
Now the opportunity had come.
Sitting in the café, I asked Jason, "What would you like to drink?"
"The usual."
I nodded and quickly placed the order.
When he saw the server bring the latte, Jason was obviously in a good mood and said, "You still remember what I like."
I neither confirmed nor denied it, but didn't intend to continue along with Jason's line of conversation. "Mr. Cooper, what value does DT have that's worth you personally coming here for a tour?"
"To chase my wife is definitely worth it." Jason's words almost made me spit coffee in his face!
I turned my head and barely managed to swallow the coffee. "Mr. Cooper, you're joking again."
"I'm very serious. I've seen my heart clearly. Since I can't stop loving you, I'll just keep loving you."
Jason's expression relaxed, a smile playing at his lips. "It's fine if you don't accept me now. I'll just keep pursuing you until you agree."
For a moment, I seemed to see him from five years ago.
The next instant, I immediately snapped back to reality, digging my nails deep into my palm, forcing myself to calm down.
I hadn't mentioned Jessica yet.
Seeing Jason in such a good mood, I tentatively began, "Jason, what if you suddenly had a child..."
"Impossible. I won't have any other children."
Jason immediately denied it. "I don't like her. From beginning to end, the only person I've liked is you. You're the only woman I've had."
My face felt slightly warm.
"No, I mean Jessica, she..."
My words were interrupted by Jason's phone ringing.
I tactfully asked, "Do you need me to step away?"
Jason didn't answer. He answered the phone right in front of me and even put it on speaker.
"Jason, when are you bringing my granddaughter-in-law back? I haven't seen her in days. I miss her so much!"
Grandma Cooper's loud voice came through the phone.
My eyes didn't flicker, but I nervously clutched at my clothes.
Jason's gaze fell on me, impossible to ignore.
He just stared at me like that, saying word by word, "We're together right now."
"That's wonderful! Bring her back right now to visit. She hasn't even been to the house yet! I'll have them prepare the best dishes right away. Girls all love desserts, we need to have little cakes too!"
As Grandma Cooper spoke, her voice grew more distant.
Jason hung up the phone, looking at me intently, and said, "You heard that. Grandma really misses you. Let's go back and visit."
In the end, I couldn't bring myself to tell him about Jessica's true identity.
To avoid disappointing Grandma Cooper, I could only get in the car with Jason.
When we arrived at the old mansion, the huge, luxurious estate truly shocked me.
From the moment we got out of the car, Jason held my hand tightly.
I tried to struggle free and asked, "Why do you keep holding my hand?"
"Afraid you'll run away." Jason was blunt, looking at me with a half-smile. "After all, you're very good at running away."
I lowered my head and chose silence.
Jason chuckled and led me into the house, holding my hand.
When Grandma Cooper saw us come in holding hands, she was overjoyed.
She took my other hand and said warmly, "Seeing you two so in love, I'm relieved!"
My cheeks felt warm. I lowered my head, a bit embarrassed. "Please don't say that."
"What's there to be embarrassed about? Seeing you two get along so well makes me happy. When are you planning to have the wedding?"
Grandma Cooper's question nearly took my breath away.
I looked at Jason pleadingly, hoping he would say something.
Jason raised an eyebrow at me and said unhurriedly, "Grandma, say less. Sue is very shy."
As he spoke, he tightened his grip on my hand.
His words essentially confirmed my identity.
I felt increasingly uncomfortable.
Lunch was very lavish, and Grandma Cooper was even more enthusiastic, constantly adding food to my bowl.
Grandma Cooper had gone from talking about when we'd get married to when we'd have children and how many.
I was extremely embarrassed, while Jason kept nodding in agreement.
Annoyed, I couldn't help but kick him under the table.
Just then, my phone rang.
Seeing it was Brian calling, I apologetically excused myself to Grandma Cooper and went outside to answer.
"Mr. Ethan."
"Where are you? I didn't see you at the company."
"Mr. Terry Ethan asked me to show Mr. Cooper around."
I didn't tell Brian I was currently at Cooper Old Mansion.
Brian's voice was tight. "Come back to the company now. I need to see you about something."
"Okay." After hanging up, I felt completely relieved.
I'd finally found a reason to leave.
I simply couldn't handle Grandma Cooper's enthusiasm.
