Chapter 305
Chapter 305
"I... I..."
Daryl, who had just been performing his heartbroken act in front of me, claiming his undying love, instantly turned pale.
He stammered for a long time but couldn't get a word out.
The reporters watching got even more excited when they saw Jason had also arrived.
One reporter boldly stepped forward and asked excitedly:
"Mr. Cooper, what do you think about your wife having had a child with someone else before?"
As soon as those words came out, everyone fell silent.
All eyes were fixed on Jason's face, not wanting to miss the slightest change in his expression.
My heart couldn't help but tighten with nervousness.
Even though I knew what the reporters were saying was all lies.
But being asked in public whether your wife had been pregnant with someone else's child before—
Just thinking about it was enough to upset anyone.
Jason's expression didn't change.
He squeezed my hand tighter.
I froze for a moment and turned to look at him.
Jason looked down at me with a reassuring smile.
My heart settled back down in that moment.
"When my wife and I got together, we were each other's first love. I'm very clear about that."
Jason spoke calmly.
Reporter: "What if Ms. Wilson is lying? After all, someone has already come here claiming to be Ms. Wilson's ex-boyfriend, and they even had a child together."
Jason's lips curved slightly as his gaze drifted lightly to Daryl.
Daryl's face instantly turned pale, his lips moving but unable to say a word.
Jason sneered coldly: "You had a child with my wife?"
"I..."
Cold sweat poured down Daryl's forehead. Under Jason's icy pressure, he couldn't get out a single word.
Jason laughed mockingly without holding back:
"My wife's taste couldn't be so bad as to be with someone like you."
Without giving the reporters or Daryl a chance to speak, Jason continued:
"Everyone who showed up here today, go home and wait for the lawyer's letter."
At those words, the whole place went silent.
When the reporters heard Jason was serious, their expressions changed. Gone was their earlier determination to uncover the "truth," replaced by guilty apologies.
Daryl was sweating even more. He suddenly turned around and pointed at Luke and Cora:
"It wasn't me, it has nothing to do with me! They called me to come here, said if I cooperated and put on a show, they'd pay me!"
Luke's eyes widened: "Stop talking nonsense. You were the one looking for Sue, specifically begging us for help, and that's why we helped you."
"You!"
Daryl clearly didn't expect Luke to turn on him. He rolled up his sleeves and rushed forward, punching Luke hard in the face!
"You were the ones who came to me! I think you've forgotten how you begged me to come act! You just can't stand seeing Sue doing well now and want to ruin her. You're the real culprits!"
Daryl's movements were quick and fierce.
Luke didn't react in time and took two solid punches.
He staggered back, dazed, anger rising on his face: "Why are you hitting people?"
Cora then realized Luke had been hit and rushed forward screaming, pounding on Daryl.
"How dare you hit my son? What gives you the right! I've never even hit him!"
"Get lost!"
Daryl impatiently waved his hand. Cora lost her balance and fell heavily to the ground.
Her face instantly turned pale as she clutched her lower back and wailed:
"Murder! Everyone come look! This man is beating an old woman in the street! He's trying to kill me! My leg, my back, it hurts so much!"
Daryl frowned: "Old witch, stop trying to scam me. I didn't hit you. You rushed at me yourself and lost your balance. Now you're trying to pin it on me? Don't even think about it!"
Cora didn't care what he said. She lay on the ground clutching her waist and screaming.
Many onlookers couldn't help but comment.
"Look how pale she is. Could she really have hurt her back?"
"Hard to say. Old people's bones are fragile. That fall looked pretty bad."
Daryl was also scared. His eyes flickered. He spat at Luke and Cora a couple times with curses, then turned and left.
Luke wanted to chase after him but was stopped by Cora.
"Luke, quick, call an ambulance. Mom can't take it anymore, it hurts so bad!"
Luke nodded with a dark expression and called for emergency help.
While waiting for the ambulance, Luke looked at me accusingly:
"Sue, are you satisfied now that things have gotten to this point? Does seeing us so miserable make you happy? How can you be so vicious?"
I shrugged, having done nothing but watch the whole thing unfold:
"The vicious part is still coming. I'll hold you legally responsible for spreading rumors about me. Wait for the subpoena."
When Cora heard she was going to be sued, her eyes rolled back and she passed out.
"Mom!"
Luke was terrified and quickly crouched down to pinch the area below Cora's nose.
After several tries, Cora finally came around.
Her face was deathly pale. She looked at me with hatred, speaking through gritted teeth: "How did you become so vicious? Now that you're doing well, you won't spare any of your relatives?"
I looked down at her from above and smiled slightly:
"Just dealing with facts. I won't say more—my words can be harsh."
I didn't want Cora passing out again and then blaming me for it.
I'm not an idiot with an obligation to take the blame for nothing.
The ambulance arrived and rushed off with Cora. Luke went with them.
Before leaving, he ordered me: "We're going ahead. You hurry up and come over."
Come over for what?
To upset Cora and speed up her demise?
I shook my head and dismissed Luke's words.
With the troublemakers gone, the crowd dispersed.
Jason still had a dark expression. I couldn't help reaching out to pinch his cheeks:
"Everything's resolved. Why still that face? Did someone owe you money?"
"Honey, such a big thing happened and you didn't call me. What if they had hurt you? You're not alone anymore."
Jason held my hand and rubbed his cheek against my palm.
"This was at the company entrance with surveillance cameras. They wouldn't dare hurt me."
I smiled and shook my head:
"Besides, I deliberately let them make a big scene. Cora and Luke don't have the guts to keep bothering us now. Don't you want to follow the trail to find who's behind all this?"
We'd been annoyed by them enough lately.
Jason looked at me seriously: "I'll arrange for someone to investigate, but you can't put yourself at risk like this again."
"Okay."
I took the initiative to throw myself into Jason's arms, softening my tone: "I know I was wrong. Please don't be mad anymore, okay?"
Jason's previously gloomy expression gradually relaxed.
He put his arm around my waist and walked toward the car parked by the road: "Let's go home."
---
As soon as we got home, Tamsin called asking us to come back to the Old Mansion for dinner.
