Chapter 116 Not Biological
Eugene hung up the phone and struggled to drag Emily into the elevator, jabbing the button for the first floor. He then shoved her out onto the empty street.
Sure enough, Amelia was the only one around, clutching a large box of cash.
Eugene grinned, showing his yellow teeth, and got excited at the sight of the money. "Amelia, you finally brought the cash. Put it down in front of me, and I'll let your mom go."
Amelia followed his instructions, stepping forward to place the box filled with cash about ten feet away from Eugene.
She frowned and said, "Can you let my mom go now?"
She was anxious, seeing Emily still unconscious.
Eugene continued to grin. "Sure."
Seeing the box of money ten feet away and no one else around, he released Emily and quickly ran towards the box, ready to grab the money and flee.
Amelia swiftly caught Emily before she hit the ground.
Eugene had already picked up the box and was about to run, but as soon as he took a couple of steps, bodyguards hidden behind the trees rushed out and tackled him to the ground.
Eugene screamed in pain, "Let go of me! Amelia, you bitch, how dare you trick me!"
Amelia was holding Emily, who showed no signs of injury but remained unconscious.
Amelia looked at Eugene, who the bodyguards now subdued, and angrily demanded, "What did you do to my mom? Why isn't she waking up?"
Eugene, knowing he couldn't escape the grip of so many people, tried to bargain. "Make them let go of me, and I'll tell you how to wake her up!"
Ryan didn't hesitate and stepped forward to deliver a hard kick to Eugene.
Eugene couldn't dodge and had to endure the pain.
Amelia, unable to wake Emily, realized Eugene must have injected her with a sedative. Thinking of all the evil Eugene had done over the years, Amelia cursed, "I hope you spend the rest of your life in prison!"
Just then, the sound of police sirens filled the air. Leading the officers was Detective Dashiell Blackwell, who handcuffed Eugene and apologized to Amelia, "Sorry for the scare, Ms. Smith."
"I'm fine. It's my mom who needs help," Amelia replied calmly.
Dashiell turned his attention to Emily, who was still unconscious in Amelia's arms, and called for an ambulance.
Amelia, following the police's arrangements, helped Emily onto the ambulance and accompanied her to the hospital.
At the hospital, Emily slowly regained consciousness.
Seeing Ryan and Amelia by her side, she remembered the confrontation with Eugene and how he had knocked her out with a sedative. She felt a wave of fear.
Unsure if Amelia knew anything, she tentatively asked, "Did Eugene say anything to you yesterday?"
Amelia shook her head. "No, he didn't say anything."
Emily sighed in relief and asked, "Where is he now?"
"He was arrested. He'll probably be in prison for a long time," Amelia replied seriously.
Ryan noticed Emily's relieved expression and wondered what was going on.
Emily sighed and said, "That's good."They stayed with Emily at the hospital until Amelia got a call from Royce, asking her to come to Antique Charm.
Amelia wanted to stay with Emily, but Royce insisted, "I haven't seen you in days, and I can't keep the shop open without you."
Ryan, overhearing the conversation, chuckled.
Wanting to ask Emily some questions, Ryan encouraged Amelia to go to Antique Charm and check on Royce.
Amelia, worried that Royce might overthink, decided to go.
Ryan stayed in the hospital room with Emily, watching her emotions fluctuate between sadness and happiness, sensing she had something on her mind.
Ryan asked, "What happened between you and Eugene? Are you hiding something from Amelia?"
Though it was a question, it struck a chord with Emily.
Emily wanted to brush it off and said, "There's nothing I'm hiding from her."
But Ryan pressed on, thinking of his suspicions. "Amelia isn't Eugene's daughter, is she?"
Emily was speechless. It was clear she couldn't hide the truth anymore, but she didn't want to tell Ryan that Amelia was adopted.
She didn't want Amelia to leave her, so she remained silent.
Ryan, noticing Emily's silence, frowned and said, "Amelia recently went to Bluewater Village to authenticate some antiques, and Eugene went to great lengths to harm her for a bit of money. Is he really her father?"
Emily shook her head slightly.
Ryan understood and asked, "Then who is Amelia's real father?"
Emily, with tears in her eyes, lied, "She's my daughter from a sperm donor."
Ryan frowned even more and said softly, "Back then, Amelia's grandfather Carl wasn't as famous as he is now. He struggled to make ends meet. Where did you get the money for a sperm donor?"
Ryan realized Amelia wasn't Emily's biological daughter.
Emily, seeing there was no point in hiding anymore, sobbed, "Yes, but can you please not tell Amelia?"
So she was admitting Amelia wasn't her biological daughter?
"What are you worried about?" Ryan asked, confused.
Emily's tears flowed uncontrollably. "I'm afraid Eugene will tell Amelia she's not my biological daughter. I'm terrified of losing her. Amelia is the daughter I raised."
Ryan's pupils contracted slightly. He gently patted Emily's shoulder to comfort her and said, "Even if you're Amelia's adoptive mother, neither of us will abandon you."
Emily remembered that cold winter when she was at the hospital for a check-up, and the doctor told her she couldn't have children.
She felt like her world had collapsed.
She was always depressed until one day she found a baby girl at the hospital entrance, wrapped in a blanket stained with blood. Emily was both shocked and delighted, shocked that the baby might have been hurt, and delighted that fate had given her a child.
The baby was wearing a necklace with the name "Amelia Brown," so Emily gave her the name Amelia Smith.
Looking at Ryan, remembering his promise, Emily stopped crying, grabbed his hand, and pleaded, "Take care of Amelia."
Ryan smiled slightly and nodded.
Amelia was his woman, and he would take good care of her.
