Chapter 93 – It Started!
SEBASTIAN.
The tensions between me and Teresa were more intense every hour. I decided not to approach her, at least until she calmed down. Today, Liam and I got down to business and prepared the syringes and organized the recipients.
At the time, only we knew about the antigen and I was going to tell Erik, too. When I entered the office, he was already there, looking out the tall window at Teresa and Caroline.
“Hey, Erik,” I said softly enough not to disconnect him from his reverie.
He also suffered for his daughter, who did not want to hear anything about him and who constantly denied him. Even more recently, Caroline seemed to be not so indifferent when it came to him. I was happy for them.
“Hey, Bash, I’m sorry I took over your office,” he replied in a sad, defeated tone.
“My friend, I know you are going through desperate moments, but try to see the good side of things. At least she didn’t drive you away!” I tried to be as delicate as I could.
As I knew Teresa, it was very difficult to make her listen to you if you lied to her. I just lived this through and through.
“Is there a good side?” he asked me, even more disappointed, turning to face the window again. “I guess you’re not in a better situation with Teresa, either.”
His intervention surprised me because I didn’t know what to answer.
“Your supposing is quite correct. Listen, Liam and I created an antigen extracted from Lettice’s blood last night!” I said suddenly, without detours.
“Antigen? For what?”
“Erik, we’ve found a way to turn Lettice into a human being. That way, we have more chances to kill her.” I spoke.
My news surprised him so much that a smile appeared on his face.
“Wow, Bash, that’s a glorious thing. Do we expect her to attack soon?” Even though he was probably worried, Erik was a fearless comrade and didn’t shy away from anything.
“Unfortunately, yes. I will call Alexei Stepanov and Mikael Svenssen to bring their men. I’m going to need the vampires under your command, Erik. The way I know Lettice, I’m surprised she’s not already here. “
“Of course, I will summon everyone. With us, werewolves and dragons, I hope it will be enough to defeat her.”
That afternoon, I got in touch with Alexei and Mikael. They did not hesitate for a second. They told me they were already on the move and that they would be in Bellingham at dusk.
“Alexei, hi, how have you been? Everything alright?” I asked to open a normal discussion, but I could never fool him.
My voice gave me away.
“Yes, what about you? You don’t sound well. Did something happen? Can I be of help?”
“You know me so well! Well, yes, you can help me. Gather all your people, take Mikael and his dragons and come to Bellingham urgently!” I said briefly, holding my breath for his answer.
“It has begun?”
That’s all he asked me. He knew the story so well that he seemed ready to help me anytime.
“It did, Alexei…” I finished thoughtfully, but with my eyes smoking with rage.
Erik had left in that second to gather his men. The next few hours will definitely be tense. Just then, my mother entered the office and behind her, walked Teresa and Caroline.
“Did something happen?” I asked mother.
I got puzzled by why all three had appeared. My mother reassured me, as always, with her warm voice.
“No Bash, nothing happened. It just seems like too much fuss around here. Where did Erik go in such a hurry?”
After my mother’s interrogation, there was no point in hiding what was happening. I went and closed the door, staring into their eyes. Mother panicked. “Bash, you scare me. Something is bothering you, son. What is it?” I was looking at Teresa, who was still looking away.
“Mother, Caroline ... Teresa, promise me you won’t panic. You’re right, something is wrong. Erik, Liam, and I are all thinking that Lettice is going to attack us soon. She took Teresa's blood for a reason,” I said and started looking at each one individually. The only one more worried about was my mother.
“How sure are you, Bash?”
“Very sure. So sure, that I have already talked to Alexei and Mikael to come with reinforcements. Lettice will not give up so easily. Too many have betrayed her from her own family and she is always ready to take revenge. I will ask you not to go out again. Even if Liam and all the contingents patrol, you’re not safe. Under my supervision…”
“I don’t need anyone’s supervision!” Teresa shouted as she left the office and slammed the door.
I intended to go after her, but my mother stopped me.
“Wait, son, don’t pressure her. Leave her, she’s hurt now. Your time will come.”
“Your mother is right, Bash. I’m going after her, don’t worry. She will not leave the house! I promise!” Caroline intervened, and I calmed down a bit.
“Caroline is right, son. Let them talk. They are best friends and confidants. I promise you everything will be fine!”
My mother’s promise meant a lot to me and, in addition, I had to protect my family at all costs. Even though Lettice would dare to show up here, I had to be prepared. It was not out of the question she would attack in the middle of the night. I could sense her rage.
As the evening came over Bellingham like a menacing lure, the sky was red. Not a good sign. Even nature foresaw and warned me. The atmosphere was oppressive, and everyone in and around the mansion stood on guard.
There were enough werewolves to face her until reinforcements came. The important thing was not to give up. Eventually, fatigue overwhelmed them all. I was still in the office, waiting. Something won’t let me sleep.
Suddenly, an agonizing scream broke the silence of the night. It was one of our werewolves. Liam… I thought, going out into the hall where Amelia was waiting for me.
“Alpha, Liam is not in bed. I’m afraid something bad happened to him…” she shouted, with tears springing from the depths of her soul.
She also felt something was wrong. Then more screaming and a lot of agitation outside. Out of nowhere, Liam was sent flying through the front door and landed in front of us, clearly hurting. “It’s started, Alpha! Lettice is here!”
