Chapter 94 – I am Coming Home, my Love!
SEBASTIAN.
“Gallagher, if you are brave enough, come embrace your death! Granny is here. Come, give her a hug.”
Lettice’s voice sounded threatening throughout the land. Her anger might be justified, but so was our response to fighting back. All of my men were outside, so I entered their minds. Gather quickly and keep her out of the mansion as much as possible! And then I turned to Mother and Teresa.
“Hide down in the lab…” I shouted, but that was all I said. Teresa’s gaze hardened and her staring became full of reproaches.
“Did I hear it well? Do you want me to run away? Oh, no, this is my fight, too. So, stop protecting me. I don’t need it!” She roared, fireballs already appearing in her palms.
“Teresa is right, my dear. We are strong, maybe stronger than many of the werewolves in the Kielder Pack. You need us to defeat Lettice!” Mother intervened, and I had to admit that although I feared for their lives, they were right.
“Ok, so be it!”
“Come on Gallagher, you are keeping grandma waiting... AND I HATE THAT!!!” Lettice roared from outside, ordering an attack from her hellhounds, shaking the ground under their feet coming towards the house.
Liam was already up and changed, howling angrily and going outside, keeping them at a distance. I followed him. The view was apocalyptic. It seemed like they caught us in an ambush.
The corpses of my werewolves lay bloody on the cold ground with her on top of them, screaming at me. “Are these poor wolves all you got, dear grandson?” she laughed over my friend’s dead bodies, staring into my eyes.
Blood stained the ground, while the thick stench of sulfur hung heavy in the air.
And then was when I turned. My rage was at its peak and although I was telling myself to take things easy, I just couldn’t. My mind got blurred, and all I saw in front of my eyes was her hideous face, as she also changed into that demon full of flames.
I couldn't contain my anger any longer, and I launched myself at her with firestorms blazing in my eyes. But she was stronger. I hadn’t fought with her before. In a single movement, she threw me to Teresa’s feet, who was standing above me in anger.
Her eyes turned a fiery red, and the fireballs in her hands grew more threatening as her fury mounted. I knew she was going to retaliate. She released them with all of her strength, hitting Lettice in her stomach. But she stood up as if nothing had happened to her.
Attacking fire with fire was not a good idea. But Lettice was quick to retaliate and rushed to Teresa, catching her. I didn’t have time to react. My people around me were dying in terrible torment.
Liam was struggling with a demon to keep him at bay and Teresa got pinned to the fence with Lettice’s hand on her neck. She was struggling to free herself from that grip of death. My blood was already boiling, and I was breathless with rage.
Fury flowed through me like lava from a volcano and it poured out all those times she hurt my family. It all pulsed through my veins like roaring in my head. I will fight this chaos with my rage.
Anger curled black and unstoppable in my gut like a blazing inferno burning me from inside out. My pulse sped up, and I could no longer control my wolf. Neither did I want to. It was time for his release.
“GET YOUR FILTHY CLAWS OF HER!!!” I roared, my eyes flickered with madness running towards her, grabbing and throwing her away, releasing Teresa’s throat.
She was trying hard to breathe, inhaling the air greedily in her lungs, falling to her knees. I did not have the time to go to her until another attack, this time from her hellhounds. That took me by surprise.
They were all on me, burning my insights. That was the moment I entered Alexei’s mind. “Bro, where are you...?” And then came the response. “Look up, my friend! Time to fry some demons! Mikael, your turn!”
I looked up with my last strength. The sky suddenly darkened with the wings of the giant dragons. In their lead, Mikael, enraged, enormous.
With a single breath of fire, he wiped out all those hellhounds without hurting me. When they saw one, they launched at it, tearing its limbs apart. Covering them with their huge wings like in a prison, I could hear their death screams while the dragon burnt their flesh.
The beasts remaining ran away, hiding in the park. In the distance, Alexei and his men approached menacingly, the ground vibrating violently. They followed all the hellhounds into the park.
Also, Erik came with his vampires, jumping into trees, slaying the demons, feasting with their blood. Erik himself unleashed in a way I hadn’t seen him before. He took them one by one, jumping on their necks, ripping them off. They soaked the ground beneath their feet with the demon’s filthy blood.
I rushed to Teresa, who was recovering slowly from the blow. Lettice was nowhere. Suddenly, a sharp pain went through my neck like a knife. This pain was different, springing from my insights, bringing death. I lost my balance. I never did that.
Everything was spinning, and it was like my body was losing the battle. I only heard Teresa’s scream until I fell unconscious, collapsing to the ground.
“Baaaaash, noooo!!!”
***
TERESA.
“What did you do, Sonia? Why?” I screamed from the depths of my soul.
It stunned me seeing Sonia with Bash’s blood all over her face and Lettice behind her. That was her last sad look as she fell on her knees, revealing Lettice with her heart in her hand, still pulsing. It was not her fault. Erik saw everything.
So, he launched at Lettice, pinning her to the stony ground and sinking his teeth into her throat. But it was for nothing. Lettice was even stronger.
She hit Erik and sent him hard into the fence, making an agonizing sound. Now I had Bash on the verge of death, and Erik smashed before my eyes.
But he looked at me, signaling me he was ok. I turned my attention to Sebastian, desperate, cutting my wrist to give him blood. But it did not work. He was still inert, not moving. And then that voice…
“You fool, there is no use. He will never recover; he will die and you will watch! Now what an extraordinary show!”
“What did you do to him?”
“It is Sonia’s bite. It is poisonous, Teresa. Remember the past!” Erick shouted.
He stood up on his feet. Lettice’s eyes got bigger.
“The past... what should I remember…?”
And then it hit me. A five-year-old little girl was trying with her father to save uncle Adam. It all came back to me. I looked at Erik and whispered a dear word I had been longing for my entire life. "Dad…”
My eyes filled with tears. Uncle Adam died. I was not that strong back then, but I was now, and I was not letting Bash in the claws of death. So, it all started. I raised my hands to the sky, and so did my father.
We began some kind of spell. It amazed me I knew the words. They weren’t even in English. The sky darkened and a furious wind blew, freezing the land. Our enchantment was creating a shell around Sebastian and we both shouted louder for him to live.
Even though I was in a trance, I was conscious. I saw Lettice approaching with a mad expression on her face, preparing to attack us. But Thea came out of nowhere.
“Oh, no you don’t!” she screamed, turning and intercepting her, holding her back.
I was trying to reach her in my mind. “Thea, no, she is too strong for you!” And she heard me.
“Don’t worry, my child, as long as I am here, I will let nothing happen to you! I promise!”
And they fought even harder, rolling to the ground, Thea keeping her promise to not let Lettice come near us.
“Father, I can’t do this! Bash will die…” I cried desperately, with my eyes swimming in tears and my heart tore apart. “I couldn’t do it with uncle Adam either…” and a deep sadness pierced my already broken heart. Uncle Adam’s last breath of life came to mind.
“Listen to me, Teresa, you can do it! You were a child back then. You are stronger now!”
And as from out of nowhere I increased my strength, with my father’s words echoing in my mind, I finished the spell. Bash’s throat bits closed, and the venom stopped from spreading. He opened his eyes. Little did we know, Thea was giving her last breath. Lettice was throwing her all over until she raised her above her head and broke her spine under our terrified gazes. That was the point when I got mad.
“Thea, noooo!” I screamed in pain, turning to face the demon just when Noah and his sister appeared.
What were they doing here? I looked at his face. He was furious, like coming to make amends.
“Oh look, if it isn’t the traitors!” Lettice shouted over to them. “I trusted you with my life, Noah! And what did you do? You passed to the wrong side. Mama will teach you a lesson!”
“Now Theresa! But leave her to me!” Noah yelled, staring into my eyes. I immediately understood what he said. I was my mother’s daughter.
My eyes turned red, my legs came off the ground, shaking it violently, causing Lettice to lose balance. In that very moment, Bash threw Noah the syringe with the antigen and, having no stability to defend herself, Noah jumped and injected her right into her neck.
A terrible scream came from inside her, her body contorting. Her bones were breaking again, and the horror in her eyes was growing. She didn’t understand what was happening to her but her skin was growing back, color pink ... she was human again. Bash’s antigen worked.
“What...did...you do...to...me…?” she screamed in excruciating pain, falling to her knees.
Noah was right next to her, biting her hard, sinking his teeth deeper into her, sucking, turning her to shreds. “Why... Noah?” she gasped for air while suffocating in his arms.
“Mother!” A sharp scream came from behind me.
Neveh ran to her and kneeled. It overwhelmed her with sorrow, watching her mother die. We all approached. The sight was indeed horrific. I couldn’t even imagine what was in Noah’s soul being forced to do that. But he had his reasons. Good reasons.
It was almost dawn when Lettice took her last breath. Neither Noah nor Neveh left her side, holding her hand. We stayed too, watching over Thea’s body. Alexei and Mikael watched from a distance. Their men had long since withdrawn.
We could only hear her heavy breathing in the morning’s silence. With her last strength, Lettice looked at the red sky with her eyes in bitter tears.
“Wait for me, Edgar! I am coming home, my love!”
