Chapter 92 – Her Days Are Running Out
SEBASTIAN.
Time stood still, and I could hardly find my balance. Surely that’s not what she meant, is it? Our love on hold? Although her words caused me immense pain, I knew that the source of these events was Lettice. If I stopped Lettice, it was over. Our love would have gained its sweetness again.
So, I left Teresa alone in the garden and told Liam to keep a close eye on her. She was wounded, but at the moment I could not heal her wounds, no matter how many kisses I gave her. Lettice had to disappear from our lives and urgently.
I had to make a plan because it absolutely convinced me that Lettice would not stay and let the time pass. It was very possible that at this moment she would count the army she had remained with and those of the transformed people into demons. I had no doubt that her serum was ready.
And while I was working in my office, from all the men in the world, Noah appeared at the door. He was the last person I wanted to see. But after his heroic rescue, I had no choice.
“Hey, Bash!” he greeted me, still standing in the doorway.
I just looked up slightly.
“Hey…” I said briefly and took care of my business.
With small steps, he entered the office, sitting on the chair in front of me with his legs crossed.
“Your mother let me in…”
Was he making small talk? I could not believe it. He was so on my nerves right now. Maybe if I didn’t take him into account, he would just leave. He didn’t. “But I came to talk about my mother!” he continued and with that, he caught my full attention.
I looked up at him questioningly. He supported my gaze until I answered.
“Lettice Duncan? What can you possibly tell me about Lettice Duncan?” My patience had limits, and this man had long since overcome it. “This mother of yours not only attempted to do what I love the most in this world, and she lives with the impression that she can exterminate us all. I would say that she suffers from grandiosity.” I blurted out.
If my intent was to annoy him and make him leave, I failed.
“I will not contradict you, but like any enemy, she also has weaknesses!”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Noah saying so about his mother and the fact that he would be willing to help us find her weaknesses? I had to convince myself that I heard it right.
“Lettice is your enemy and you are telling me she has weaknesses? Did I understand well?” I asked in surprise.
I certainly did, but I still found it hard to believe, to the point of impossible.
“Everyone has a weakness. I started not seeing my mother with the eyes of a son since the day I saw what she did with my sister, but I don’t need to go into details. Fortunately, I released her, and I am convinced that my mother is now looking for revenge. There is no way she couldn’t have realized that by now!”
I listened to him, and I almost exploded.
“Okay, let’s just say I believe you. What can you come up with in this entire story?” I seemed even more interested.
And in fact, I was. If there was a way to annihilate this woman, I was open to all possibilities. Even talking to her son.
“Okay, I don’t know how true it is, but it’s worth researching. One evening I caught her, without her seeing me injecting herself blood, just a drop, from the first Luna of the pack she decimated in Wales. I don’t know how she still had it. I didn’t stop to ask her. Only after that, she seemed younger, stronger. So now I come and think if we can make this process reversible?”
His idea took me by surprise, but intrigued me. “And I also have this!” he continued, handing me a small container of some blood.
“What is this?” I asked angrily.
Noah’s methods amazed me even more.
“Just a little blood from my mother!” he said, maintaining his posture and staring into my eyes.
“Lettice’s blood? How come you have it?” I asked, shocked.
I was already doing all sorts of scenarios in my head, and I was even questioning the veracity of this container.
“I know you may wonder if it’s hers or not, but I assure you it is. She and I have a lot to share, and blood is one of those things. I took it when I knocked her out yesterday. She knows nothing about it. To be honest, I don’t even care if she finds this out. The weird part is the way the cells behave. I have a friend who has a friend in this underground world who confirmed to me how chaotic their behavior is. Hellhound cells predominate, but it also has human cells from her previous life. Returning to the fact that she took her strength from the blood of that Luna, all you have to do is to put things together and create something to stop her.”
“So, she used that blood to maintain her vigor ... what are you telling me is she is feeding her beast’s genetic code?” I asked once more, reaching a shocking conclusion.
“Exactly! Without that blood, she would be weak and, who knows, maybe she can be defeated. But it’s impossible to take it from her, I can’t get close to her anymore. That’s why I asked if you would have any method to make this entire process reversible. In other words, to turn her into a human being, to destroy the werewolf cells in her body. That would be her weak point. There must be a way. Find it! You are a geneticist, aren’t you!” he finished, looking at me with a long face. If that were possible, there was only one man I trusted enough to give me what I needed. And that was Killian Duncan.
“I think I found it.” I burst into joy at the thought that Lettice didn’t seem to be really invincible.
I took out the phone and from the second ring, I heard the voice of the man I needed the most.
“Hey, Killian, Bash here. Sorry to bother you, but I kind of need your help!”
“More pure iron?” he asked curiously.
“As much as you have. I need large quantities of it. How fast do you think you can send it to Bellingham?”
“How about a few hours from now?” God, how much I liked this man!
“Excellent, send as much iron as you can. I am going to create a bomb for a leech.” After I hung up, I looked at Noah, who was already wondering who I was talking to. But I would not satisfy his curiosity. “Thank you for the help. From here, I can handle myself!” I clarified that this meeting was over, motioning for the door and to see himself out.
“I will be around!” His last words surprised me, but I didn’t have time for questions. Now was the time for answers.
As Killian promised earlier, the pure iron arrived in less than two hours. I stored it in the lab and went there along with Liam.
“Liam, I need your help. I think I have the solution to our problem!” showing him the iron Killian sent. His eyes widened in astonishment.
“Wow, what is that?” He approached easily, examining the boxes. “I hope you have a good explanation for all this!”
“Put this on!” I said firmly, handing him the white robe. He put it on immediately and walked behind the workbench with me.
“Okay, I am all ears!”
“I just received an unexpected visit from Noah, who told me some information about Lettice that I did not know. Like she injected herself with blood from the first Luna she killed in Wales. According to him, to maintain her strong and vigorous. Then he suggested to me if there was a way to make this entire process reversible. In other words, to turn her into a human!”
“So, what are you trying to tell me is that we have to create some kind of antidote?” Liam got very intrigued, but at the same time, I could see that he liked the idea.
“Something like that, more like an antigen that will help us annihilate the werewolf cells and heal them and support the human cells. This antigen will enter her bloodstream and in a matter of seconds will develop antibodies that will act against the cells in her body and thus the miracle will take place. I have a small container with Lettice’s blood here. Whether I believe it or not, Noah brought it, and we’ll see how human and hellhound cells behave in her bloodstream. That way we can develop that antigen, extracting more human cells and multiplying them.” I ended up victorious. I knew it would work.
Lettice's days were running out!
