Chapter 223 Sister Time
Trent's POV
I'm furious right now. I don't know who I want to kill more, Axel or Braxton. Both of them have pissed me off in less than ten minutes! I would say Axel because he was the one who actually put his hands on my Angel, but then it was Braxton who promised her to him, like she's some sort of fucking object!
I hold Charlie in my arms, more for my benefit than hers. I need to calm the hell down before I go finish the job. The thing is, I'm not even sure anyone would stop me. I breathe her in, her soft fragrance fills my soul, and I focus on calming my heartbeat. I focus on the woman I love that is trembling in my arms.
I place a soft kiss on Charlie's lips and stroke her hair back from her eyes. She still looks really upset. I'm just not sure if it's the fact I knocked the bastard unconscious or if it's from the attack earlier, where I almost beat Axel unconscious... Really should've finished the job!
"Angel, I want you to go hang out with your sisters for a little bit," I soothe. "I'm sure Josie and Liv would be happy to keep you busy for a little bit. They both look like they could use some sister time right now," I mumbled, rubbing my face against her soft hair.
"B-but what about you?" she looks terrified I'm going to leave her. Her little fingers clutch my shirt with a death grip, refusing to let me go, almost like she's expecting me to escape the crazy that is her family. But I would never do that.
"It's okay, baby. I'm just going to hang out with Rick for a little bit. We've got some things to discuss, okay?" I mumble, placing another kiss on her forehead. I don't want to make a big deal of it. I'm kinda hoping Josie thinks this only has to do with the attacks, but it's bigger than that. But I'm really trying not to worry her anymore than she already is.
"You're not leaving right?" she whispers. I hate how insecure she is right now. Not that I blame her, she just got fucking attacked in the worst way possible. "You're not going back to your house?"
"No, baby. I'm going to be staying right here, I just need to talk to your brother-in-law for a little bit, then I'll be right back to you. Promise! I'm sure Josie could really use some company right now. She looks like she wants to go on a rampage, and I'm sure that's not good for your niece," I smile down, trying to distract her with something she could feel useful with.
"Damn right I will," Josie grumbles. "But he's right, Charlie. Just come with me! I can use some ice cream, and from the look of it, you could too!" She states coming up and grabbing Charlie by the hand.
"Don't forget about me!" Liv squeals, slipping her arm into Charlies, like they are on their way to a party, and not just the kitchen. Liv can be a selfish bitch sometimes, but right now she looks really worried about her sister.
Charlie gives me one more conflicted look. She really needs to calm down, and an ice cream isn't a bad idea. Mostly, I know she needs her sisters right now. Later, she'll be all mine.
"Yes, go have some sister time. I really need to talk to Rick alone for a little while. I need to make sure you girls are safe. I'll come find you when I'm done," I promise.
I watch as Charlie is pulled away by her sisters to the kitchen. I hear giggling and a deep male voice coming to the rescue. Then grumble when I hear the girls call Jeff's name and start chattering away.
Rick just snorts. "He's not after your girlfriend," he promises. "They are more like brother and sister! I promise, she's in safe hands. He would never try to steal her from you."
Well, that's good to know. Still not sure if I trust the guy. He's not a bad guy. That's the problem. He's really nice! And handsome... And can fucking cook like a dream! Why the hell wouldn't Charlie go after him?
I watch in amusement as Brent and Grant lift the unconscious body of Braxton between the two of them. I don't feel the slightest twinge of guilt as I see blood dripping from his nose and mouth. I do feel bad I'm making the guys carry him away though.
