Chapter 138 You did this to me!

Chapter 138 You did this to me!
DANDELION.

Within five minutes, everything was in chaos.

Walter was already driving us out of the estate, he was fast yet maintained a careful pace,

Grandma Winifred was in the backseat by my right side, screaming directions at Walter.

"Faster, Walter! My great grandchild is almost here!"

Alex was holding my hand so tightly I thought my knuckles might snap, he seemed to be in more panic than I myself, who felt the intense cramps increase.

When we finally reached the hospital entrance, he got out of the car, and immediately carried me into the lobby while shouting for a team of specialists.

It was total chaos.

Well......

A few minutes later, I was sitting on the hospital bed, looking very scared while a calm doctor checked me.

"They're just Braxton Hicks, honey," she finally said, trying to hide her smile. "It's false labor. It happens to almost every first-time parent."

The silence that followed was heavy.

I looked completely foolish.

Alex, who had been vibrating with enough adrenaline to power a small city, went limp.

He looked like he was about to pass out, his face turning a shade of pale that made me worry if he was the one who needed medical attention.

"False?" he whispered, blinking at the nurse. "But....the pain? The water?"

I turned back to the doctor, my face burning with embarrassment. "I am so, so sorry, for the disturbance. We were clearly delusional."

She just laughed, patting my hand. "Don't be. It just shows you’re prepared. Go home, get some sleep, and try not to race to the hospital next time."

Then she went ahead to explain to me what to expect, when the baby was truly about to come.
The ride home was quiet, it was like everyone was quietly reprimanding themselves for over reacting..... Except for Grandma Winifred, who was quite unimpressed. "I guess the baby just wanted to prank us," she muttered, before falling asleep against the car window.

Alex rolled his eyes, but didn't say a word.

................

Two weeks later, both I and Alex were seated at the gazebo at the garden.

I was buttering my toast when I remembered I didn't bring my favorite peanut butter.

So i slowly stood up to go get it, moving around by myself was part of the exercise.

But I suddenly felt a pop.

It felt exactly like a balloon bursting inside me, followed immediately by a warm rush of water down my legs.

I froze. The toast I was about to have a quick bit on hovered halfway to my mouth.

The water this time was more than before.

"Alex," I called out slowly, afraid to move an inch, "My water broke."

Alex, who had been reading a report on his tablet, dropped it into his plate of eggs with a loud clatter.

His eyes widened in surprise. "Wait. Really? Not the fake kind? Is it real this time?"

"Yes, Alex. The real kind." I said quickly, refraining myself from snapping at him.

My body felt on fire, I suddenly felt like sitting down.

Alex was up in a flash, but this time, he wasn't panicking like two weeks ago. Instead he calmly gave orders to Walter and some other staff.

"Walter! Get the bags, The bags in the closet, and the bags in the nursery, bring all of them."

"Steve, call the doctor, tell her we're on our way. Also inform Noona."

Then he marched over to me, and before I could even finally take a seat, he scooped me up into his arms.

I was huge and likely heavy, it felt really awkward, but he carried me as if I was weightless.

"Alex, put me down!" I snapped, a contraction hit me right then, causing me to tighten my grip on his shirt. "I can walk! I’m fully capable of walking to the car!"

"Not on my watch," he insisted stubbornly. "You are not putting one ounce of pressure on your feet until you are safely in a hospital bed."

I leaned my head against his chest, groaning as the contraction faded.

"You are the most annoying man ever."I snapped again.

"And you are my wife," he replied, sprinting down the hallway, "so just hold on."

......................

Immediately we got to the hospital, I was whisked straight to the delivery room.

The next three hours were the most agonizing hours of my life.

The contractions were no longer fake; they were like waves of electricity that seemed to dismantle my entire body.

I had refused the epidural process, because I had thought I was more afraid of the long needle piercing my lower back than normal labor.

But honestly I would take back my words if it wasn't too late.

Every time one contraction hit, I grabbed onto Alex’s shirt, pulling him down until he was hovering over me, whispering words of encouragement that I barely heard.

"You're doing it, Angel," he breathed, wiping sweat from my forehead with a cold cloth. "You're amazing. Just breathe."

"Shut up," I hissed, my voice cracking as another wave crashed over me. "This is your fault! You did this to me!"

He didn't flinch or get offended. He just leaned in closer, his green eyes staring at me in the most loving way, "I know. And I'm sorry. But you're almost there. Just one more okay, you're almost there."

The doctor stepped forward. "Okay, Dandelion, I need a big push. On the count of three."

Alex gripped my hand tightly, his entire being focused on me. "You can do this. For our baby."

I pushed with every last strength I had left, I felt like I was splitting in half, I had totally gotten to the limits of my body.

Alex’s voice was the only thing I could hear in the background.

Then, there was a sudden feeling of release.

The room seemed to fall into deep silence.

And then, from below, a tiny, high pitched cry filled the room.
