CHAPTER 17: A MERMAID

MONICA'S POV

I laid down in bed thinking about Alpha Zac's sudden anger when I slept off. I woke up hours later only to see Alpha Brimstone at the door, about to leave the room. He had changed his dress and he was wearing a robe and he looked regal. I sat up from bed and called on him. "Please wait," I said and he paused. He turned to look at me and he raised a brow. "What's it?" He asked and I climbed down from the bed. I walked toward him and stood in front of him. "I'm sorry for what happened earlier. I know I went overboard." I explained and he frowned. He stared at me for some minutes before he turned to leave without saying a word.

I still had a lot to say and I didn't want him to leave. Instinctively, I pulled on his cloth and he turned back. "What are you doing?" He asked angrily and I flinched. I quickly released his clothes and looked at him. "I'm sorry. I didn't want you to leave. I wanted to ask that hope you are no longer angry with me?" For some silly reason, the only thing that was important to me at that moment was what he felt about me. The thought that he might be angry with me was suffocating and I couldn't bear it. I looked into his eyes without blinking and he stared into mine too "If you don't continue crossing me like this, you will have a peaceful time in this house but if you continue this way, I might kill you one day with anger." He warned and with that, he left the room.

I ran after him and stopped him again. "Why do you hate me so much? Is it because of my background or because I'm so weak?" I asked her. My mother had always told me about how Alphas hated to have weak Lunas because they could always be their weakness and for some reason, I felt like that might be the reason Alpha Brimstone hated me so much. I wanted to know and I was desperate about it. He stopped without turning to look at me and he groaned, seemingly frustrated with me. "Hate? I don't hate you but can you just stay away from me? Why are you frustrating my life? I do not hate you but don't bother to ask if I like you because the answer would be No too. It's not because of your background or because you are weak. I don't just like you and I can't like you." He said harshly to me and left.

I watched him walk down the stairs without sparing me a glance and I slumped on the ground. I already knew it would be hard to make him love me but hearing from him that he would never love me made my heart ache. I felt an excruciating pain in my heart that made my eyes sting with tears but I knew I shouldn't cry. I stood up from the ground and looked around me to see if there was anyone but there was no one and I sighed in relief. I did my gown well and sighed. "Good. You should stay strong like this." Edna said to me and at that moment, a tear rolled down my eyes and I wiped it off immediately.

I walked down the stairs and saw some maids working in the sitting room. They all stopped what they were doing the moment they saw me and bowed their heads to greet me. I nodded at their greetings and walked toward them. "I heard there is a garden here. Can any of you show me the way?" I asked while trying my best to make my voice cool enough. I did not want to show my pain to others especially when I knew they had no good feelings toward me. I knew they were finding it hard to like me or accept me as their Luna but I gave no f**k about that and I wanted to always stay strong in front of them.

They glanced at each other and two of them walked over to me. "This way, My Lady." One of them said and led the way while I followed after them and they took me to the garden. Entering the garden, memories flooded into my brain and the smiling face of my mother appeared in front of my eyes. I wanted to touch her cheeks but she disappeared immediately and my heart sank. "You can leave," I said with a lot of difficulty as it was only by willpower that I was able to stop myself from crying.

The maids nodded, bowed, and left the garden. Seeing that I was alone, I let my tears fall freely from my eyes as I entered deeper into the garden. Everything about the garden felt familiar to me as it all looked exactly like the type of garden my mum would want for herself and it was almost an exact copy of my father's garden if not for the fact that it was bigger and much more beautiful. I continued walking in the garden as my tears fell but I didn't wipe it off anymore and I let it fall freely. "No one is around, right?" I asked Edna. I wanted to be cautious and I did not want to get caught. "No one is around." She replied solemnly and I sighed.

I cried for a few hours before I could stop myself from crying and started admiring the garden. I kept wishing there was someone that could come to me at that moment and comfort me for real but the only person that came to my mind was Alpha Zac. I dismissed the idea as I knew he would be busy and walked out of the garden. The garden was beautiful and full of things but I wasn't in the right mind to appreciate them enough.

I walked into the pack, walking aimlessly and fortunately, it was very late so there were only a few pack members outside none of them recognized me as it was late and they didn't expect their Luna to be walking alone that late at night. I walked down the street, passing through corners while lost in thought and before I knew it, a warm feeling entered my soul and I closed my eyes, savoring such a homely and wonderful feeling. "What's that? Where did that come from?" I asked Edna who seemed to also be excited too but she didn't reply to me and I opened my eyes only to see a large body of water in front of me.

"A water?" I mumbled as I moved closer to it. The water was cold and blue but very beautiful and there was still a homely feeling that I kept feeling from it that made my heart feel at rest. I found a small stone by the water and I sat on it.

"It's very late, Monica," Edna advised me and I sucked in a deep breath as I checked my time and realized it was already 1:32 am but I didn't feel like going home yet. Home felt empty as there wasn't anything to look up to and the excitement I was getting from the water was too much for me to stand up and leave only to return to a place that always made me cry. I sighed and looked at the beautiful water "I know. I will just relax here a little, clear my head, and return home." I assured Edna who was already sounding a bit worried.

"Alright," Edna replied to me and we ended the connection there. I continued staring at the water and suddenly, I saw something moving in the water and my heart skipped a beat. I stood up from the stone and looked carefully into the water and the thing moved again. "Shark?" I asked. "It's not," Edna replied and my curiosity grew. I was supposed to be scared but somehow, I felt excited as I watched the thing swim to the water bank and brought out its head.

Looking at the creature carefully, I realized it had a human head with long silver hair that fell back into the water and its sea-blue eyes stared at me lovingly as it revealed a sweet smile to me. "A girl?" I asked myself as I moved closer and it flew out of the water, landing painfully on the ground. Only then did I realize it had a fish tail and a human upper body "A mermaid?" I asked and she nodded with a smile. Her beauty warned my heart as I moved closer to her and stood in front of her. "Are you a mermaid?" I asked again as it was hard for me to believe. I didn't know mermaids still existed and the one in front of me was just too beautiful. "A mermaid?" I asked again and she nodded. "Yes." Her melodious voice entered my head.
