Chapter 319 This Is Her Man
Chapter 319 This Is Her Man
Xandra returned to the room.
Their eyes met, and a hint of guilt-ridden amusement flickered across Frederick's face. Inexplicably, he felt like a student caught causing trouble by the teacher—guilty as charged.
He truly hadn't expected his little wife to launch a surprise attack soon.
He cleared his throat and calmly lifted the covers.
"Honey, I need to use the bathroom."
Xandra walked in with a half-smile playing on her lips.
"Oh really?"
Frederick chuckled and reached out his hand to her. "Help me up."
Xandra walked over to support him, though she didn't forget to give his arm a sharp pinch.
"Still pretending! You really think I'm that easy to fool?"
Frederick laughed leaning into her strength. "Honey, why can't you be a naive sweetheart for once?"
Xandra shot him a skeptical look. "Want to get yourself a different wife then?"
"No way," Frederick replied instantly. "I don't like naive sweethearts."
Xandra snorted and helped him to the bathroom door before letting go, gesturing for him to handle the rest himself.
Frederick immediately put on his most pitiful act. "Honey, my hands are weak. Help me."
"Then just pee your pants!" Xandra glared at him.
Frederick played the victim. "You're so mean."
"Want to find someone who's not mean?"
"No, I admit it—I'm a masochist."
He looked completely flattering and playful.
Xandra couldn't help but smile.
Watching him enter the bathroom, she thought of Anya, and her smile faded slightly.
A moment later, Frederick came out of the bathroom.
Xandra supported him and casually asked, "Did you end up getting in touch with Anya?"
Frederick made a sound of acknowledgment. "Donald found her. She was out shopping."
Xandra acknowledged this and said nothing more.
Frederick sat on the bed, carefully observing her expression. "Honey, are you upset?"
"No." Xandra's face was calm.
"Sit down."
Frederick patted the edge of the bed.
Xandra sat down as he asked.
Frederick held her hand and kissed her forehead.
"Honey, we agreed—from now on, we won't hide anything from each other. We need to be completely honest with each other."
The man's eyes were deep, his voice gentle.
Xandra nodded. "Okay."
Frederick curved his lips, ruffled her hair, and pulled her into his arms.
Xandra closed her eyes, breathing in the man's familiar scent, and wrapped her arms tightly around his waist.
This was her man.
She wouldn't let anyone take him away for any reason!
Night fell.
Rachel went upstairs to call them down for dinner. She had to go to the bar.
"Xandy, why don't you come to the bar with me?"
Xandra glanced at Frederick. "I'd like to, but..."
"Don't worry about him. He's fine now, isn't he? If something comes up, he can call the servants." Rachel said.
Frederick was silent.
She really didn't care about her own son's wellbeing at all.
Frederick glanced at her with a cool look in his eyes.
"You're not going."
Rachel looked at him. "Are you not letting Xandy come to the bar with me because you want her to stay home and take care of you, or because you're worried about her going out alone?"
"What do you think?" Frederick asked back.
"I'd say it's the latter."
Rachel said, "Come on, that's your mom's bar. What are you worried about?"
"Because you're unreliable."
Rachel was silent.
Listening to the mother and son's daily bickering, Xandra held back a laugh and quickly smoothed things over.
"Alright, Mom, in a couple days when Ray's feeling better, I'll have him come with me."
Rachel looked at her. "How did he manage to get such a hold on you?"
Xandra smiled and coaxed, "You're here, so he wouldn't dare."
"True. If he dares to bully you, I'll be the first to beat him up."
Rachel ate up the flattery, then said, "Well, I'm off."
"Okay."
Xandra saw her out of the room, then turned to look at the man getting out of bed, teasing with a smile.
"Why don't you trust me to go to the bar?"
Frederick got out of bed and stood before her. "Honey, would you really leave a sick person at home alone while you go out partying?"
Xandra burst out laughing. "Come on, let's go eat."
Frederick smiled silently and went downstairs with her for dinner.
After the meal, Xandra helped Frederick take a walk in the garden.
Breathing in the fragrance of flowers throughout the garden, she felt like time was peaceful and good.
Just then, Frederick's phone rang.
He glanced at it—it was Richard calling.
Richard and Peter had been out of town visiting friends these past few days.
Now that Richard was calling, he'd probably returned to Seaside City and learned about the three children's background.
Frederick's expression became serious. He answered the call. "Grandpa."
"Fred, how come I'm hearing that Xandra's three children are Lucas's?"
Richard got straight to the point, his tone somewhat agitated.
Frederick was silent for a moment, meeting Xandra's gaze as she looked at him.
He looked away and intertwined his fingers with hers.
"They'll all be my children from now on."
"No, I know you treat the three children as your own flesh and blood. I just want to ask, who is the children's biological father? Is it Lucas?"
Richard pressed on.
Before Frederick could speak, he added, "If you don't say anything, I'll take that as confirmation."
Frederick remained silent, letting him take it as confirmation.
Richard got excited again. "I knew the three children looked like the Russell family! Turns out they really are Russell family blood!"
Hearing this, Frederick's brow furrowed.
This old man was getting so excited right in front of him, not worried at all about making him uncomfortable!
The three children were Russell family blood, but...
"Grandpa, let's talk about this after Xandy and I return home."
Richard calmed his excitement and said, "I heard from Phil that you were in a car accident. Are you okay?"
Frederick said, "So you do care about me?"
"Of course I care about you. You're my most beloved grandson," Richard said.
Frederick: "I think your most beloved person is about to change."
The old man already particularly liked the three children, especially Chuck.
Now that he knew Chuck was a Russell family descendant, he'd only be happier.
On the other end, Richard didn't deny it. After hanging up, he was still both happy and worried.
How could such a mix-up happen?
How could those three children be Lucas's?
Never mind that for now—he needed to go see his great-grandchildren!
Here, Xandra looked at Frederick. "Grandpa knows too?"
"Yeah." Frederick acknowledged.
In the night, the man's gaze was deep.
Xandra looked at him and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
Frederick turned to meet her clear eyes and reached up to pinch her cheek.
"Thinking about how to eliminate all the people eyeing you."
This person eyeing her referred to Lucas.
Xandra let go of his hand and gently wrapped her arms around his waist. "I'm thinking about the same thing."
There were people eyeing him too.
They were in the same boat—neither could criticize the other.
The breeze lifted her long hair.
Frederick stood quietly, holding her slender waist, looking at the increasingly silent night sky, when something suddenly flashed through his mind.
