The thought to snap Sasha's neck in two occurs to me but I know that doing so will only condemn Emmalee.
My hands are tied. A situation that otherwise could have been avoidable has spiraled out of control and I blame myself. I should've done something to prevent this.
It's so ridiculous that I can hardly believe it's happening.
Am I really going to have to fuck this woman over Fang's desk in front of Em? Is this really happening? The sight of blood running down Emmalee's neck is enough to ground me. Sasha isn't just talking—I'm sure she'd be beyond thankful for a reason to kill Em and take her out of our lives.
I pause. Sasha pushes against my cock and the act sets my teeth on edge. The worst part about all this is how much I desire her. My wolf wants to claim her. I can smell her arousal and it's driving me to the brink of insanity.
It's savagery, what I'm about to do.
I free my cock from my trousers—the same ones I borrowed from Fang moments ago. Gritting my teeth, I guide it to her entrance, fighting every bit of sense in my body.
I have to remind myself that this is for Em. It's all for her. Keeping her alive is my only goal.
Will she ever forgive me for this?
Sasha moans loudly as soon as I push into her. From there, the whole thing becomes a blur punctuated by her moans of pleasure and my thudding heart. I plant my hands in the desk as I drive into her, swallowing the grunts that threaten to leave my lips.
I'm repulsed by this but instinct is forcing me to claim her. This was also a part of her plan—perhaps she hoped that if I took her, I wouldn't be able tot resist her.
Luckily, it doesn't take long for me to finish. I spill deep inside of her, a small groan escaping me as she comes, her walls spasming around my cock, milking it. When the deed is done and my mind clears, that's when I recall Emmalee. For these last couple of minutes, she slipped my mind completely.
I look her way as I step away from Sasha. She's on the ground, her head turned to the side, eyes screwed shut. The sight of her blood makes my head spin. Sasha pulls her pants up, buttoning them before remarking, "That was amazing. Didn't you feel what I did? Didn't you—"
My hand closes around her neck and her eyes widen. One of the men exclaims something—a reminder that Em will pay for any harm that falls upon Sasha, but I'm not listening. I grit out, "I, Romain Rosseaux, reject you, Sasha Trevon, as my fated mate."
Pain flashes in her eyes as she stares back at me. Did she really think the outcome would've been different? I stare back, daring her to turn back now. She could do it—make my life more complicated than it already is.
I still wouldn't be able to hurt her.
But she licks her lips and rasps, "I, Sasha Trevon, accept your fucking rejection."
I feel a snap deep inside of me that could be mistaken for a broken bone and release her. A wave of pain crashes over me and I momentarily lose control over my senses and my surroundings.
"Leave!" I exclaim. "Don't ever come back here or our deal is done. Do you understand?"
Sasha rises shakily, her hand never leaving her shoulder, and walks toward her guys who leave Emmalee's side. One of them opens the door for her, and as soon as she steps out, a wolf pounces on her.
It all happens so quickly that I think my mind is tricking me or the pain of the severed bond is causing hallucinations. I watch as a wolf rips Sasha apart while a few more attack her men. My first instinct is to rush to Emmalee's side to keep her safe.
I start crawling toward her, calling her name. She's distracted by the sight of the fight. Fang is standing in the doorway. Our eyes meet briefly before the turns away.
This is his doing, I realize.
"Em," I say when I reach her. "Em."
Her eyes meet mine. I hold my breath, waiting. The words "I'm sorry" slip past my lips. All around us, hell is breaking loose. A spray of blood splatters across her face but she doesn't notice it. Instead, her eyes slowly fill with tears.
"I'm sorry," I say once more, inching toward her, ignoring my pain. My anger. My hatred toward the woman who's now lying dead merely a few feet away from us. Everything stops—Emmalee is the only thing I focus on.
Without the bond tying me to Sasha, shame does a number on me. I become breathless with it. When she still won't utter a word, I say to her, "I did it for you. To save you."
A single tears slides down her cheek. "I know."
These two little words fill me with enormous relief. We gravitate toward each other and I hold her in my arms, inhaling the familiar scent of her skin as I hold her close. I block out everything else—I know we aren't in any danger.
I pull away and hold her face between my hands. I kiss her wet cheeks. "It's over now, okay? I'm sorry. I let it get to this point."
Em shakes her head. "We all made mistakes. I didn't know how far she'd come. I could've thought about it, too. You were unconscious."
"You're right," I admit, my insides turning to stone as I redirect my anger at the one person I think deserves it. "It isn't our fault."
I turn my head to fix my gaze on the doorway. Fang is leaning against the wall, dressed in a robe.
"This is your fault," I say accusingly. "You could've put a stop to it, Fang!"
"Hold your horses," is his reply. "I fixed my mistake, alright? I underestimated this girl. I saw her grow up. The impression I had of her was that she was strong—unbothered. Sasha never displayed this possessiveness before. This bond between the two of you transformed her."
"Oh, fuck that, Fang," I spit. "You don't miss an opportunity to fuck up, do you?"
A smile curves his lips. "Again, I'm sorry. I tore her apart for you. I'm sorry about the potential kid growing inside of her. Fuck, you'll have many more."
I keep my lips sealed, choosing not to share that I couldn't care less about that. I don't know why she assumed that I would care if she was pregnant—it's a hard, perhaps demeaning truth but I won't tell a lie.
"Now we have to clean this up and blame it on your husband, darling Emmalee," Fang claims. "If the other group finds out about this, we're fucked. I won't sugarcoat it. Her mother will be back tomorrow and I don't want this pinned on any of us. Things will be done quietly. Go on, kid. Get out of here. I'll take care of this."
