Chapter 161

Chapter 161
Jett
Holding my little girl in my arms is the proudest moment of my life. Honestly, I don’t even have the words to express how I feel at this point. She has the tiniest button nose, dark, long eyelashes like her mother and a smattering of dark, fuzzy hair.
“I can’t believe how tiny she is,” I say hoarsely, my voice filled with emotion as I cradle her swaddled body in my arms, sitting on the edge of Kitty’s bed. My woman looks radiant for a woman who has just gone through a very long labor. They were considering doing a C-section at one point, but she gritted her teeth and pushed through. Kitty did not want to have a C-section if she could help it. She relayed throughout the pregnancy that she wanted to have a natural childbirth.
It’s just her and me at the moment. My stepmom and my father are outside, eagerly waiting to come in. Kindly, they respected that for the first few moments of our daughter’s life, Kitty and I wanted to share this moment alone.
“You are amazing, Kitty. This girl will always be loved and protected. She is not allowed to date until she is thirty.”
Kitty smiles at me, tears at the corner of her eyes. We are both overcome with emotion. I can’t believe that this little bundle of joy comes from the two of us. What a moment. “I can’t wait to give her a brother,” I tell Kitty, who pops open her alluring eyes.
“Are you kidding me right now, Jett? I’ve just gone through childbirth; there is no way I want another one just yet. You’re going to have to give me a year at least.”
I cradle our little girl in one strong arm and clasp my free hand around Kitty’s hands. “There is no rush. If you don’t want to go through it again, I understand. I am so happy with this little one, that. She is perfect, isn’t she?”
Kitty nods. I can see how tired she is, exhausted even. “You will need some rest. Are you sure you want the grand folks to come in?”
Kitty nods her head. “Yes, Mom will want to see her. I can rest when everyone goes. To be honest, I just want us to all be back at our beautiful cabin, and you fussing over me.”
I lean forward and kiss her lips gently. “That, I most definitely can do. I’m going to spoil both my girls rotten. You can trust me on that. It’s the most fulfilling thing I will ever do with my life, Kitty. Taking care of my girls. Dammit, I feel like an emotional bag right now.”
She chuckles. “You are a big softie, Jett. Anyone ever tell you that before?”
“Yeah, you, several times. Let me go and get mom and dad in, I know they are waiting to see you and the baby.”
“What about names? Did you decide which you preferred? Ellie or Presley.” She knows I am a huge Elvis fan and also that my grandmother’s name was Elena, Ellie for short.
“Whichever you want to choose, unless you have a different name for her?”
To me, it doesn’t matter. I want whatever Kitty wants.
I carefully hand our baby girl back to her mother, who takes her in her hands and pulls the blanket down slightly to see our girl’s face properly. “She looks like a Belle to me.”
I love it, honestly. “Belle it is then,” I say. The wonderment of Kitty holding her daughter fills my heart and then some. The lump in my throat is well and truly lodged.
“Can I take a picture now?”
Kitty nods. I have several pictures of when she was first born, a few hours ago, but then Kitty asked me to stop because she didn’t want all the first pictures of her with our daughter to show her looking exhausted from childbirth.
I whip my phone out of my back pocket and take a picture of the two of them. I swear to God, any minute now, I am going to blubber like a two-year-old who can’t get its own way.
There is a knock on Kitty’s private room door. I stand and go to it and find my stepmom and my father standing there. “We can’t wait any longer to see our granddaughter, can we come in?” my stepmom says. I open the door and wave them in. She is straight to Kitty and presses a kiss to her forehead. “Oh, my will you look at her. She is beautiful, Kitty. Look at that nose, she has your nose, sweetheart.”
My father stands on the other side of the bed. He too kisses Kitty’s forehead. “You must be really proud, Son,” he tells me. I nod because I am way to choked up to actually say anything right now. This will be our family. A proper family. There is no way that Kitty and I will ever leave one another and have a child in this world who has to go through separation and divorce as we did.
I will do whatever it takes to ensure that Belle grows up with a loving family around her. She will have plenty of “uncles” in terms of the M.C. gang and “aunties.” A ready-made family. And for the record, Belle is not getting involved with motorbikes or gangs. That is one hundred per cent out of the question. Over my dead body.
“What have you named her?” my stepmom asks. Kitty looks at her and beams.
“Belle, Presley, Ellie,” she says with such pride in her voice. My stepmom places a hand to her heart.
“That is perfect. She does look like a Belle.” My stepfather nods and comes around to my stepmom and places an arm around her.
“Look at us, proud grandparents. That girl is going to be spoilt rotten,” he says, and do I detect a gruffness to his voice, too? “It’s about time, Son, you made us grandparents. Now, I think we should let Mommy rest. We can come back first thing in the morning.
My stepmom nods. “May I hold Belle for a moment before we go, sweetheart?”
Kitty offers Belle up to her. It’s a beautiful sight to see. Three generations together. This is what life is about. Bringing new life into the world and carrying on our family. It is like we have come full circle.
I am excited to watch Belle grow every day, hear her first words, watch her shift around on her bottom and take those first precious steps. For now, however, I just want this moment to last forever and ever.
