Chapter 18 Chapter 18
Sophia's POV
"What are we going to do Sophia?"
"To be honest, I haven't figured that out yet."
After I had made the promise to find the would-be assassin, I had begun to investigate non-stop, but there was no progress.
I couldn't help but sigh and stared at the plate in front of me.
"Sophia, Pay attention to your manners while you're eating."
"Yes, of course, sorry father.”
My father's sudden voice startled me, he was still the same old stickler for rule and refused to let me slip on anything.
"How's the Alpha of the Wolfalpine Pack?"
I was stunned for a moment. I hadn't expected my father to bring up this topic so soon. I had explained the mess in the pack to my father and he believed me that I wouldn't be so jealous as to poison Lila, but he didn't seem to be very optimistic about Ethan's business.
I put down the cutlery in my hand and wiped my mouth before I spoke.
"Ethan is a good man father. He provided a lot of clothes for me, an expensive sapphire necklace..."
"If you really want to be the Wolfalpine Pack's Luna, you need to work harder."
"I know, father."
Again, my father had said the same thing when I married Marcus.
He had even added a bunch of etiquette lessons for me to attend, hoping that I wouldn't disgrace our pack and would be a perfect Luna.
But the question remained, would Ethan ask me the same things as Marcus?
With those beautiful blue eyes and that charming smile in front of my face, I truly believed that Ethan and Marcus were different.
"The necklace..." Beta Thorne muttered suddenly from the side of us.
"Necklace? What do you mean necklace?"
"Sophia, I remembered something..."
After the meal Thorne and I went to the study and he told me that on the day of the poisoning he had received food from a black-haired omega. He still remembered her appearance, but we had been through the whole pack and any visitors and still, we hadn't found the woman that fitted his description.
That was where our investigation began.
“ That Omega wore an emerald necklace around her neck, I have no clue how an
Omega got something that looked so expensive, and I had thought it was a little strange, so I looked twice at it as she handed me the food."
"Great! I have an idea!" I said as I jumped up happily and patted him on the shoulder, "I'll have to get you to make use of those acting skills of yours Thorne."
I had asked the members to let it be known that Thorne was the assassin and that he would receive his punishment in the hall.
"If I were that assassin, then I would definitely come and take a look to make sure that I was free from suspicion."
"Yes Kira. That's exactly what I was thinking."
"Then we should seal them in the room until we finally have our culprit."
"And find the necklace thereby identifying the culprit!"
My method had worked perfectly and as I cast my gaze over the omega who cowered on the ground before me, I picked up her emerald necklace and sneered, "Was it that bastard Marcus that gave you that poison?"
"I... I do not know..."
Seeing that she was still hesitating, I bent down and placed the necklace around her neck.
"That's her!" Beta Thorne exclaimed as soon as he saw the black haired wolf in front of him.
I pulled Kira's power forward and kicked the Omega to the ground.
"I never thought for a minute that my own pack would harbor a traitor like you!"
I asked Beta Thorne to take her away and as I looked at the magical emerald
necklace in my hand, I suddenly remembered something.
"Kira? Doesn't that slut Lila also wear the same necklace around her neck?"
"I think the last time that I grabbed her neck, I remember seeing it... that emerald necklace."
A bold idea formed in my head and I kept wondering why Lila, a witch, could seem to hide her identity amongst the wolves and now it seemed that it might have something to do with the necklace around her neck. Someday soon I would rip her disguise away from her.
Word soon spread that I had caught the assassin as promised and the pack
members, as well as the elders, finally began to acknowledge my abilities.
My father's health was still not very good, so they left some of the pack's affairs to me.
I was over the moon with this. After all, for the first time, my father was no longer raising me as someone who would be Luna, but he was starting to see me as the Alpha heir that I had always been.
I soon became busy with everything, learning new ways of governance and with the help of Beta Thorne I managed to persuade a good number of pack members to stay.
I had managed to calm the internal tensions within the pack, but to win over the external advocates and restore the collaborations with the packs, I needed to work harder.
Right at this moment, I stared at the teacher who was in the middle of lecturing on the business course that I had signed up for.
He was using the Wolfalpine as an excellent example of a case study and I couldn't help but be a little distracted.
I thought of Ethan and what might he be doing now?
"If you marked each other, you would be able to feel what he was doing."
"Kira!"
I blushed at Kira's words, I knew what the mating mark meant and even though Ethan and I were each others Fated Mate's I didn't feel ready.
Besides, since the last time I rejected him
At a crucial moment and accidentally left the necklace in the room without bringing it with me, I sort of felt that he must have given up on the relationship between us.
After all, what Alpha would be interested in a woman who repeatedly rejected him?
"I don't think he will reject you. I'm sure he's thinking about you."
"But how is it possible?!"
I shook my head to dislodge the thoughts from my head but Beta Thorne knocked on the door and walked in, providing the perfect distraction.
"Sophia, the Alpha from the Wolfalpine Pack has sent an invitation to you.”
