Chapter 66 - Rejecting A Wolf

"You never thought a day like this would come," Aurora said to Astrada as she dragged her to the tree line. "On your high horse doing the most wicked things to innocent people."

"You have a grudge against me?" Astrada gritted her teeth and asked.

"I have a grudge against everybody who thinks they can play God. My father is very just and fair while giving out punishment and rewards." Aurora told her.

"What does that even mean?" Astrada mumbled, confused by what Aurora said.

"Do you believe in God?" Aurora asked Astrada. Slightly taken aback by the question, Astrada answered it anyway.

"Yes, I believe in the goddess," Astrada answered, but that wasn't what Astrada was asking.

"Not the goddess, not the mother but the father of all living things. Do you believe in him?" Aurora asked again.

"The concept of a male God is human. Our God is female. The moon Goddess Selene." Astrada said.

"If there's a mother, there needs to be a father, right? The goddess is the mother of all lycans, but lycans can not be born without a father. " Aurora patiently explained to Astrada.

"How many people's lives did you guys take in pursuit of lycans? How many women and men did you sacrifice, raped, and killed to get a lycan child?" Aurora asked without waiting for Astrada to answer. "If that is not playing God, then what is?"

"Lycans are the origin of this species. The moon goddess children were able to shift into anything at will. You will never understand the true purpose of our actions." Astrada scoffed and said.

"No, I understand perfectly well what you are trying to do. But the thing is, do you think you'd be able to cage a real lycan?" Astrada pursed her lips and went silent.

This was a question she always wondered about. Could they cage something that can shift into any living creature? How can we cage a beast capable of doing that?

"You probably thought you could cage a baby, but a Lycan's instinct would rule over that. That baby would grow up someday, and it will realize how superior it is to werewolves." Aurora taunted. "You guys we living in a fool's paradise."

"You're wrong. What if we could control a Lycan? Then what? Maybe the child would have done what we asked."Astrada denied.

"Perhaps, but that's is riddled with uncertainties. Leaving it up to chance is not a wise choice." Aurora mused, and Astrada went silent.

"So who are you then? Are you a know it all or are you the grim reaper coming to punish all those who wronged?"Astrada asked.

"Me? I'm not the grim reaper. That's my brother in law, cannot take him out of a job now, can I?" Aurora replied seriously, but Astrada felt like she was mocking her.

"Don't mock me," Astrada told Aurora. "But do you think you can change anything with just you and him alone?"

"I can change get plenty. I will break all the rules and make new ones." Aurora chuckled.

Astrada didn't reply anymore. She was slipping in and out of consciousness. She was reaching her limit soon.

Aurora noticed this and picked up her pace, and along the way, she pulled down a few vines. When they reach the tree line, Aurora tossed Astrada aside before looking for the best two trees to tie the vines to.

She then pulled Astrada over and securely tied the vines to her arms before she began to pull her up.

Aurora pulled her up, and Astrada was hanging mid-air with her both arms spread in a T pose.

Astrada looked like a mess, and a pool of blood was steadily forming on the ground below her.

"This is where we part ways, do enjoy being tortured for your misdeeds in hell." Aurora laughed, walking behind Astrada, who was barely conscious and shifting into a mockingbird before quietly perching herself in a tree to watch the show.

Thus began the waiting game. As luck may have it not even five minutes later, the rumbling of engines sounded.

'He's here,' Aurora thought to herself. She was looking forward to seeing his face but also thought Brandon had excellent timing because Astrada's was at the end.

The cars pulled up, and before they came to a complete stop, Brandon bolted out of the car. Running towards Astrada as fast as his legs could take him

Brandon saw how badly she was hurt, and he knew she wouldn't make it, but subconsciously, he ignored it because he had hoped she wouldn't leave him.

But that was his hope. The reality wasn't like this. As he reached her, she breathed her last. Through the bond, he felt her go. The connection they had broke. And all that was left was an overwhelming sadness and pain.

Anger overtook him instantly, but he didn't move. He couldn't move. Rationally, he knew whoever did this was not to be trifled with. He needed a plan.

Brandon let out a long breath, shakily he took Astrada's body down himself. Without a word, he took her to the car he came from.

Aurora, who was watching from a tree nearby, couldn't help but click her tongue. Many wouldn't be able to be so composed at a moment like this.

Truly, the man who leads the council must have self-control. Aurora watched them leave before she turned back and went back to the pack.

After she arrived, one would think they would be happy with the win, but the thing is, the casualties were high. Many lost their lives.

Aurora walked to the pack house quickly meeting Jace, whose face was grim.

"What happened?" Aurora asked, moving to touch him on his arm.

"Henry might not make it," Jace told her, and she understood why he was like this.

"Do you not know how to feel?" Aurora asked.

"I know what I feel. " Jace sighed, rubbing his forehead. "Let's just go see him."

Aurora nodded and followed him into the house. it didn't take them long to find where Henry was.

Stepping into the room, the scent of blood attacked their nostrils. Their eyes scanned the room. Nick, Morel, and Tom were all there standing grimly at the foot of Henry's bed.

His cheat rapidly rose and fell. Even though he was still breathing, he was in a mangled state.

"Can't you help him?" Jace asked, making everyone turn their attention to him.

"The extent of his injuries is too severe. He won't make it." Nick answered his eyes laced in pity.

This boy has been through so much after escaping death. His parents shielded him to escape, taking their lives to protect him in hopes he would survive, and he did survive the council's attempt to wipe out the Lunar pack.

But he won't survive this attempt. Henry was on his last legs. Jace couldn't muster the courage to say anything. Instead, he moved to Henry's bedside and knelt down.

The teenager's tightly closed eyes opened. As if he knew his brother came to see him off. Gently Henry turned his head and looked at Jace's serious face.

Jace knew he could save Henry's life, but that would mean making him a lycan. Something Aurora and Jace planned not to do

"I'm glad to see you again. You remind me of my brother. So, I'm truly thankful to see you one last time." Henry smiled weakly, his teeth covered in blood. He was dying. Jace didn't hesitate as he bit his wrist and shoved it into Henry's mouth.

His emotions outweighed his logical thinking, so he made the stupid choice that would break or make them.

"Jay, don't!" Aurora panicked as she saw him doing this. Jace was brought back to his senses as he heard her shout.

"Shit," Jace cursed, but it was too late. His body moved on instinct. Doing the one thing that would guarantee Henry's life.

"What have you done!" Aurora screamed, Jace could only helplessly look back at her. Panic, rage, and disbelief swirled in her eyes.
