Chapter 57 - Rejecting A Wolf
Asherah froze, and her lips trembled as her heart began to hammer against her ribcage.
'Was it him? No, it can't be!' she denied in her mind. She didn't want to turn and face the scent of the person.
But after a few seconds of fighting herself, she gave in and turned.
The two of them were staring at each other in silence. Sizing each other up. Confusion shined in his eyes.
It didn't make any sense. He could smell it, but his brain automatically denied it because it was impossible.
Aurora was dead, and Jace was dead. He buried them right here with his very own two hands.
Asherah's mouth felt dry as she looked at him. He moved his gaze off Tom and onto Asherah.
His lips curled, and he softly said, "I'm here Kātali."
Asherah's dropped to her knees, hearing those three words became the thing that broke the dam.
Asherah bawled her eyes out. Her cries were so heart-wrenching that even the confused Tom felt saddened and in pain.
Kushiel pressed his lips in a thin line and moved. Walking towards her with fast steps before dropping to his knees and embracing her.
"My world, my love, my beloved." Kushiel softly rocked them back and forth as he buried his face in her hair.
Asherah was so out of breath from sobbing that all she could do was grab onto him, on his clothes, and clutch them so tight.
Tom stood there watching the two strange people sobbing in each other's arms with a sour feeling in his heart.
He felt as if he had just lost something important, very important to that man who just appeared next to him when he was coming here to lay flowers on Aurora's and Jace's graves.
He could only awkwardly stand there with the flowers at hand as the two cried themselves tired.
For Asherah and Kushiel, this was thousands of years of frustration finally being let out.
The separation, desperation, and humiliation they went through were nothing to scoff at.
Asherah, surprisingly, was the first to calm down. She was embarrassed at how long and hard she cried in front of Tom.
He didn't know it was her, but it was embarrassing to have an audience when having a breakdown of this magnitude.
Kushiel slowly calmed down also. He wasn't embarrassed, but he was annoyed at the third wheel here.
Seeing this weird couple finally stopped crying. Tom moved and walked closer to them.
"Um, I don't know what sort of hard life experiences you had, but can I get through? I want to place this on their graves." Tom asked politely. Asherah and Kushiel straightened themselves up and moved to the side, giving Tom access to the grave.
Asherah had questions but held herself back. She wanted to know about the situation with the werewolf community through Tom, but right now, she was nothing but a complete stranger.
So silently she hugged Kushiel and they watched as Tom placed the flowers before tracing Aurora's headstone with his fingers
"Did you know Aurora and Jace?" Tom suddenly asked. "No, that's not the right question. The right question is how you found this place."
Tom's turned his gaze sharp and cold as he vigilantly guarded against the two.
"Now isn't the time, we'll find you, Tom," Asherah answered before shifting into a werewolf. Tom's mouth fell open. The massive size of the monster werewolf was absolutely shocking.
Asherah was lying down so Kushiel could have no problem hopping up on her back, and Asherah ran out before Tom could utter another word.
But it wasn't like he could. That was the biggest werewolf he had ever seen. She looked massive when lying down, but when she stood. That was a whole different thing.
Asherah left a trail of dust as she sprinted away with Kushiel, leaving Tom in disbelief.
Asherah covered a dozen meters in one leap. So when she broke out in a sprint, it wasn't surprising that she left a cloud of dust behind.
Asherah, in werewolf form, carried Kushiel up a mountain and into a hidden cave.
This cave was special. It was the first place they lived together when they were reincarnated into Lycans on earth.
The cave was covered in moss and grime. One could barely see the stone furniture Kushiel carved with his bare hands.
Kushiel's expression soured when he saw the state of the cave. Nature took back the cave and put it back into its natural state. Asherah stood in her human form beside him silently as he touched the walls of the cave.
"Remember when we were so happy that we could be together? When we thought death was his punishment?" Kushiel asked her softly. Asherah flinched as she heard that.
But decided not to answer, what could she possibly tell him? Sorry for making you a fallen angel. For corrupting you? For being the cause of your suffering?
She couldn't do it, she didn't know how to start to apologize.
"I always thought he was merciless. After everything we, I been through. I thought so, but when he released my shackles and killed my angel body. I felt peace, but I also longed to see you. To kiss you, to hold you." Kushiel turned towards Asherah and grabbed a lock of her silver hair, and twirled it around his finger.
"But when I died, I was falling. I thought his final punishment was enteral damnation in hell. But I fell to earth, on the foot of that hill. And something beckoned me forward, that's when I saw you." Kushiel whispered.
"Kushiel, I" Asherah choked, and Kushiel smiled sadly as he let go of her hair and caressed her cheek softly." If it weren't for me, you'd be a carefree angel."
"If it weren't for you, I would have been trapped, alone, and never would have understood love," Kushiel quietly told her. "If it weren't for you, I would have been another meaningless existence. You gave me meaning, a reason to live. And all I want is to live a meaningful life with you. As long as I can and as far away from that place as we can."
"You fool," Asherah softly hit him on his chest, "You stupid man, we shouldn't be together. What if it is all a lie?"
"Then I'd gladly burn myself over and over. I don't care if I suffer. We have been suffering for so long. It doesn't matter because I'd burn in the fires of hell just to be with you." Kushiel brushed back Asherah's hair.
Kushiel has been leading Asherah to one side of the cave wall and slowly entrancing her with his body and wall. She only noticed this when her back touched the cold, wet moss.
"Kushiel," Asherah began, but Kushiel leaned in and cut her off by pressing his warm supple lips on hers.
The kiss began soft, but with her pressed against the wall entrapped and willing, Kushiel's desire for her reached its peak.
He gently stuck his tongue out a slid it past her lips. Asherah sunk into the kiss as he passed her lips and opened her mouth to use her tongue to wrestle against his gently.
The sound of soft sucking and gasping echoed throughout the cave. Kushiel's hands were cupping Asherah's face, while Asherah's hands were snaking their way into the shirt Kushiel was wearing.
The two put a pause on their kissing to catch their breaths. Kushiel smiled and buried his face in the crook of Asherah's neck.
"Let's give ourselves names. Let's start fresh and change this world." Kushiel mumbled into her neck. "I don't want to be Kushiel the angel anymore. That's not who I am anymore. This body is one hundred percent human."
"Then what do you want to be called?" Asherah asked him softly.
"I already know what name I want. Call me Jace," Kushiel used his nose to rub along the side of her neck. He felt her stiffen and he knew it wasn't because of his actions.
"Why that name." She asked him in a low tone.
"Because none of our past lives ever got to make it to middle age. I can't be that Jace anymore but I am him in a sense. I think he deserves to get to live a long life with the woman he loves." Kushiel explained softly.
"Then I assume you want me to be Aurora?" Kushiel heard her reluctance and he chuckled.
"Oh my beautiful wife, you can be whatever you want to be. I never had that thought in my mind. Don't assume things." Kushiel breath tickled Asherah's neck as he laughed.
"Okay fine I get it. But I did come here with the intention of righting the wrongs of the past. Starting with the council, and getting revenge by killing Alaric." Asherah told him.
"And you can do that. I won't stop you in fact I'll rush into battle with you. Just don't call me by the name Kushiel. Call me Jace." Kushiel, no Jace firmly stated. Asherah pursed her lips with a look of apprehension.
"Jace," She called out. Jace pulled away from her neck and stood up straight as he brushed her lips with his fingertips gently.
"Yes, Asherah? " Jace smiled brightly, Asherah swore she could see stars swirling in his eyes. He looked so happy so relaxed.
He truly didn't care if this was a trick. He was embracing this opportunity to live out a normal-ish life with her. So after a long time contemplating she decided, like him, she would not care anymore.
"Don't call me Asherah," Asherah's lips curled into a small smile. " Call me Aurora. You're allowed to call me Ror."
Jace patiently waited for her to speak and he wasn't disappointed. Aurora was a beautiful name. Better than Asherah because to Jace, Aurora gave it to herself.
Jace didn't answer instead he picked Aurora up and walked deeper into the cave. Aurora was surprised at first but she relaxed the next second later.
She wrapped her arms around Jace's neck and leaned on his shoulder, enjoying that he was carrying her.
Jace entered a part of the cave that used to be their bedroom and laid Aurora on the stone bed before getting on it himself.
"Let's christen our new names, caveman style," Jace said as he hovered over Aurora.
"Pfffft, hahahahahahahahaha. You're so cringy. Hahahahahaha." Aurora laughed.
