Chapter 56 - Rejecting A Wolf
Asherah dreamt of him, of their first time making her wake up in tears. Softly sobbing, the pain in her heart only turned greater.
All she wanted was to be a normal couple with him, have children, and grow old. It's impossible for that now. So she could only begrudgingly get out of bed and get ready to listen to her mother's lessons.
But as she sat there listening, she couldn't focus.
Asherah was absentminded. She could hear her mother speaking, lecturing her, but she couldn't focus.
She sat there staring ahead but not seeing anything. At this point, Selene was frustrated and waved away every one to leave so she could talk privately with Asherah.
"Asherah!" Selene called out, but to no surprise, Asherah never responded. So she called her name out again, but this time, she clapped her hands, never Asherah's face.
"Mother," Asherah gave Selene a slight bow of her neck to show she was listening.
"What has gotten into you? You're not paying attention, nor are you here physically. Is something bothering you?" Selene asked her in worry.
"Yes somethings bothering me." Asherah straightforwardly told her mother.
Selene frowned and sat next to Asherah to take her hand and clasped it in hers. This was to show Asherah she was here.
"Then what is it, my love?" Selene gently asked. "What is bothering you?"
"You," Asherah's response stunned Selene. Selene's beautiful eyes widened in shock, but that shock wouldn't be the last." How could you watch as an entire race go into extinction? You call yourself the mother of lycans but watch the state of Lycans on earth. You watched as 'he' killed off an entire race while destroying many new races to teach me a lesson. You're not a mother. You are an emotionless God."
Selene was so shocked that she subconsciously let go of Asherah's hand and watched her in disbelief. Up until now, Selene thought Asherah had lost all her memories.
Because the Asherah she was sitting next to was nothing like the bold girl she raised. This Asherah was silent and brooding, Selene assumed it was because she was just a different person.
"You, how can you remember?" Selene asked in a whisper. Asherah gave her mother a condescending look.
"So forgetting what happened would make things better, will it absorb your guilt? Did the scream when you killed them, Mother? Did my children cry for me for him?" Selene face turned pale, and she jumped to her feet and stammered.
"Asherah, this." Selene's voice trembled.
"I know they hate me, that's why you keep me locked up in this palace. Afraid I would run into them? Or afraid I will make another angel fall?" Asherah let out a mocking laugh, "That won't matter because I'm fed up with pretending. I won't come here and listen to your teachings nor will I talk to you again. It's about time I cut off the toxins out of my life completely. "
Without waiting for Selene to reply Asherah got up and left. Transforming then and there and flying out of the palace undoing the restrictions like it was nothing.
She was going to her place of comfort. The place where she would meet Kushiel back in the day. But as she came there she noticed one other person already there.
Her father. She hesitated a bit but decided to stay.
"Asherah," he called out to her without turning. " You cut ties with your mother? As the sixth Cardinal this mustn't be."
"What makes you think I'll become the sixth cardinal? I never wanted to be that and besides, I'm sure my many brothers and sisters would agree with me." She scoffed and said to him.
"That's not their decision," he answered her lightly.
"Then you expect them to welcome me? To praise the sinner as the sixth cardinal? They will use the past as a weapon against me." Asherah said.
"Then what do you want!" the lord turned around and looked at her in exasperation.
"You know what I want otherwise you wouldn't be here waiting on me. Or is your ego so big that you think I'll beg you?" Asherah mocked him. She figured him out the moment he turned around and looked at her.
"Fine, I'll send you back. After that, you'll have no contact with us. Whatever you do and whatever happens on earth is none of our concern," he told her in defeat.
"Is that for certain?" she asked, doubting his words to be true
He gave her a stern look."My words are worth more than anything in this universe. I will seal heaven. you will be on your own. Whatever happens to you is your choice."
"Good, because there are people I want to kill." staring into her emotionless cold eyes. "I can't avenge the past incarnations of myself but I can avenge Aurora. Wouldn't want you interfering with my fight. Stay in your lane and I'll stay in mine."
"Is this your choice?" He could help but try to convince her otherwise.
"It's my choice, somebody needs to fix the mess made. Who better than the person who caused it?" was her decisive answer.
"Okay," he paused, "Rest today, and tomorrow you'll be sent there."
"As someone else?" she could help but ask.
He shook his head, "I'm not going to do you that anymore. You have already paid for your sin. You'll be going as yourself. In this body, I hope you find happiness, my child."
Asherah didn't reply she only watched him silently before turning and walking away. This chapter of her life was done. The next chapter would be something different.
'If only I could be with Kushiel, then this would be what I always dreamt of,' She thought to herself.
But this was impossible, as a fallen angel, he would be imprisoned and would never see the light of day again.
The following day, Asherah stood on the balcony in her room. Selene came in to talk to her but Asherah ignored her completely.
She completely shut this mother out of her life. And now she was getting what she wanted, to be free of heaven completely.
Asherah didn't care what her mother had to say. It could be said that her mother and father were the cause of a great amount of her suffering.
After waiting for a while, the Lord appeared beside Asherah silently. Asherah gave him a side glance before turning her attention to the bustling business below.
"Are you ready?" The lord looked at her as the ground beneath crumbled. He teleported them somewhere. It was a place with a boundless sky.
There were standing on air. Asherah looked around and understood this was the point of entry.
"I'm ready," She answered him. The Lord looked at her determined face and felt sorrow. He knew this was for the greater good. For her well-being.
"Asherah, I'm sorry. As a parent, I failed to understand your feelings. I acted like a tyrant and condemned you to several lifetimes of suffering. I made a mistake and hope that maybe you can just forgive me one day." The lord apologized, ever since he created the heavens and earth, he never admitted to his mistakes.
He understood that in this plane of existence, nothing is perfect. Nothing is without fault, including himself. He lost his sight to his ego and became biased against free will that he created made him reevaluate.
"I forgive you because I was in the wrong. But I can't stay here. Somebody needs to fix the mess of the werewolves on earth. And I sincerely hope that we never meet again. Seeing you, being here, just brings the painful memories up." Asherah softly told him. The lord lips trembled as if he wanted to speak but dare not.
"Alright," He decided to say goodbye. She didn't need him to say any more than that right now. "Entering earth in your true form will weaken your powers of divinity to almost non existing. As half Lycan, you can make new lycans and shape-shifting into anything as long as you have the power. Go in peace, my child. Be happy, be free."
The firm ground it felt she was standing on slowly let off, and soon she was free falling. From heaven to earth.
Her heart hammered against her chest as she passed the threshold of heaven and earth. Divinity disappeared, and the earth was beneath her.
Flipping her body, she dove down head first, and as she reached the clouds, she transformed into a majesty white bird.
She was back! The rush Asherah felt as she flew through the sky.
Asherah was certain of the first thing she wanted to do. She wanted to pay respects to her past self, Aurora.
But she didn't even know where to begin that when she heard her father's voice in her head.
'My last gift to you.' As his voice sounded in her mind a strong feeling enveloped her body. It was pulling her west.
That's where she flew at her fastest speed. Even then it took her three hours to reach a hill over looking a big river. Shifting into her human form, she came up to the two graves.
Their names were carved into the headstone, and the graves looked well-kept.
Aurora Dale. Jace Maddox.
How many years passed since then? Aurora didn't know the concept of time was ignored by her when she was back in heaven.
The wind picked up and blew her hair outwards, carrying a new scent through her nostrils, the scent of someone familiar.
