Chapter 44 he never behaved like this
Alexander’s P.O.V.
“Where were you? I had been calling you all day, but you didn’t pick up the call, not even once. Do you know how worried I was?” I yelled at Hunter as soon as he entered the palace’s main hall.
I was about to send Raymond and some warriors to the city in search of Hunter. But to my relief, he showed up before that.
“I am tired, Alexander. I ….. I want to lie down for a while.” He replied to me dejectedly, walking towards the exit of the main hall.
I knitted my brows worriedly when I sensed something off about his behavior.
I went to the city again to sign the contract with Amelia, but after two hours, his phone went switched off and I lost contact with him.
I tried to contact Amelia too, but she was also not reachable.
I then contacted Marcus, and he told me that Amelia is okay but was dealing with something very urgent. So, she won’t be reachable for the time being.
I assumed that she got work on behalf of her security agency.
But, now….
After seeing Hunter like this, I was sure that I missed something.
“Hunter.” I called him while following him out.
“Not now, Alexander. Please leave me alone for now.” He still refused to say a thing, his tone hollow, his shoulders hunched.
But I couldn’t let him go like this. This was the first time that I had seen him so dejected and in pain.
Yes, it was his pain that made me worried for him.
“Talk to me, Hunter. We are friends too, right?” I still insisted while walking beside him.
“Yeah.” He replied in the same daze.
“How did your meeting go with Amelia?” I asked him, trying to find out the reason of his state.
“Something came up on her end. We decided to have another meeting in a few days.” He answered me but his tone was still hollow and distant.
“Did you explain all the terms and conditions of the contract?” I asked him again. I wasn’t keen to know the details, but I wanted him to react.
“She will not tie herself up with the royal pack. She can’t.” he answered in the same tone, but I furrowed my brows in confusion.
“Let…. Let’s not talk about this here, Alexander. Although walls around us are thick, one can hear us aloud.” He suggested it absentmindedly when I was about to ask him for further details.
“Onyx. He is silent too. Whatever happened to him has shaken both Hunter and Onyx. I am now worried for them.” Velan notified me worriedly.
This was bad. Onyx was one of the most rational beta wolves in our world. Even though both Hunter and Onyx found themselves attached to Amelia in their first meeting, Onyx was still hostile towards her because of her being rogue.
“We have to go to the Blue Moon Pack.” I told him in a serious tone, trying to continue the conversation between us.
He reacted this time. He looked at me with knitted brows in confusion.
“Scarlett tried to pressure Abraham through my father.” I told him further and he frowned.
“It’s time for them to step down and hand over the alpha title to Nicholas.” He nodded in agreement and took a deep breath before moving his gaze in front of him again.
“Have you ever considered the possibility of her being pregnant with your child after that night?” he asked me in a low voice when I was about to tell him more about my decision to go to the Blue Moon Pack.
My heart trembled hard, and I clutched my fists tightly inside my pant pockets.
I blinked while processing what he just asked.
“She turned eighteen that very same night and you said that she also had her wolf at that time. The torment went on all night. What if she got pregnant?” he continued asking while adding some details of that night.
“Hunter.” I called him in a warning tone, but he just shook his head.
“I believed Marcus th… that she is still alive. Recuperating, but alive. What if sh…. She gave birth to your pup back then, Alexander? Marcus didn’t explain everything to us.”
A low and threatening growl erupted from my chest as I continued staring at my beta with a blank gaze.
“Why are you asking this now, Hunter?” I asked him in a stiff tone, trying to suppress my pain and anger.
He didn’t answer but moved towards his chamber.
I waited for him to answer me, but he didn’t open his mouth again. I got impatient because of his lack of response.
Even Velan was now growling lowly at the back of my mind.
“Why are you asking this now, Hunter?” I repeated the sentence while gritting my teeth as soon as we entered his chamber.
I grabbed his arm and yanked him towards me.
“Because I felt like a total failure today, Alexander.” He screamed aloud, raw pain and despair evident in his voice hitting me hard, startling me in the process.
“I, royal beta Hunter Stone, a true royal blood, felt like a total failure today. I, Hunter Stone, who has faced so many battles and has made so many alphas bow down in front of me, couldn’t look into a dying pup’s eyes, fearing that I would see hope in his eye. How pathetic I am?” he wailed, but his words hit me like stabbing knives.
Tears rolled down on his cheeks like a broken dam. I had never seen my friend like this. He wasn’t this broken when his mother died a few years ago.
“Whom did you meet after the meeting, Hunter?” I asked him anxiously, holding both his arms so that he couldn’t move away from me.
“I met a pup whom they rescued in the past, Hunter. Th… that pup…. He is this small, so frail.” He replied to me while making gestures with his hands, sizing that pup while crying so hard.
I felt a burning pain in my chest, which made me breathless too.
“He… he was crying in pain, but painkillers stopped working on him. We watched him screaming and writhing, but couldn’t do a thing to comfort him, Alexander. I just watched him fall unconscious due to exhaustion in the end.”
I didn’t know how to react now because I felt his helplessness and despair in my chest too.
“He… he is an alpha born, Alexander, and this made the situation worse. A pup born from an omega and an alpha…. You know very well what it means, right?” he asked, but my heart skipped a beat.
“I gave him my blood, hoping that my healing abilities would make his tiny body heal faster, bringing some relief to him, but it didn’t work as I anticipated, Alexander. I am so useless.”
“You did what?” I exclaimed in shock, widening my eyes in the process.
