Chapter 30 rising his guilt
Marcus’s P.O.V. (Continued)
I raised the question, giving them a curious gaze.
This time, King Alexander’s expression faltered a bit. He looked at Hunter, who had a flustered expression now, stunned by my question.
“That was early hours in the morning. The moon was still up in the sky, and the rogues appeared there in less than an hour after she was thrown there. How?” I added while recalling the other situations, looking between King Alexander and Beta Hunter.
At the same time, Luca offered a glass of wine to the king, bending at his waist to show his respect towards him.
We respect Alexander for his neutral behavior towards everyone. He had been on the throne for more than 9 years, but we never heard him punishing an innocent. He took time to investigate a person’s crime and even check the authenticity of evidence and witnesses produced in front of him.
Obviously, it pissed off some influential people, but it also made them fear Alexander because he severely punishes whoever framed an innocent. It helped him earn support from common people and all the people related to those who were framed wrongly.
He took the glass while looking at me coldly. He didn’t drink immediately but put his hand on the armrest.
The temperature in the room dropped by two degrees, but I wasn’t a random wolf. My previous alpha family and my family feared me because of some reasons.
Luca was affected by Alexander’s agitation, but I was still cool and indifferent to his anger.
“This is because Bernard’s beta, Asher, had already informed all the rogues’ groups the previous night that they would leave a young she-wolf out of their pack territory. I don’t need to elaborate on the meaning of his words, right?” I explained while raising a question teasingly in the end.
“You are talking rubbish.” Hunter growled angrily, still refusing that I was telling them what exactly happened back then.
“You are free to contact any other rogue group and confirm what I told you, Beta Hunter. Back then, it was Luca who was our leader, and he had a very old phone. Yet, I kept the backup of his phone call records, but I am not sure if you will be able to track down that number now or not because Bernard is not a fool to leave strong evidence against him.”
I could tell that my words hit the nail, but it wasn’t this easy to make them believe my words.
“We were just rogues with nothing with us at that time, my king. We had no resources to find even basic medical aid if we needed it, let alone heal and save an almost dead person back then. She was on her last breath when we ran away with her when we sensed the presence of a royal after finding her. We took her away with us so that we could give her body a proper burial, but her survival instinct didn’t let her die immediately.” Luca told him anxiously, now standing behind me.
Their faces turned one shade darker than earlier.
I sighed and rubbed my forehead. I never told Amelia who assaulted her that night because I didn’t want to live in a constant fear of facing Alexander at any time in the future.
Just like these days, she was dealing with him perfectly fine, and Arthur told me that she wasn’t as afraid of him as she was in their previous meetings.
This was a good thing, though, because Amelia never let anyone other than a few of us who saved her back then and helped her during her recuperation come close to her.
“Please don’t try to find who she is, my king. I am begging you. She…. She is still dealing with her trauma an…. And her body… her health is still declining an… and we don’t know when… when.” Luca couldn’t speak the next word as he choked on his words and whimpered in pain.
“What did you say?” Alexander burst out, shooting up on his feet; his hands grabbed Luca’s throat the next second as he was still standing near him.
“King Alexander.” I roared threateningly, shooting up on my feet, ready to attack him at any time.
Hunter growled at me, taking a step towards Alexander, shielding him with his body, but I didn’t care about him.
“Yes, she is still alive, but her life is hanging on a thread, and with this post? Bernard pushed her on the brink again. He did it to take is revenge on us for not giving him the business that he desperately wanted to have from us to save his company.” Luca cried but didn’t try to save himself.
“You are lying. She can’t die.” Alexander seethed while exerting more force on his throat.
“Crush his throat just like you crushed hers that night.” I roared at him, balling my fists so tightly that I drew blood from my palms.
For a few seconds, everything froze in the room. I was now breathing heavily; Luca was crying silently, while both Alexander and Hunter were frozen in their places.
Hunter’s eyes widened to the extent where his eyeballs were about to pop out of their sockets at any time.
“It took her almost a year and a half to speak a few basic words again. You crushed her neck bones and her vocal cord so badly.” I roared at him once again. I had no intention of letting him go away without raising his guilt to the maximum extent.
“She was weak and malnourished, and her body was so fragile that we couldn’t even look at her at first when we reached there. You destroyed her whole lower body. Her internal organs were falling out from there; did you know that?”
Alexander snapped his head towards me, growling threateningly but I didn’t stop here.
“Why are you bothered whether she is alive or not when you know what you did to her? Do you really think that a small girl like her could have survived after everything that you and your nephew did to her?”
My rage was at its peak. He shouldn’t have laid his hands on Luca.
For four years, I watched Amelia suffering from the aftermath of everything that they did to her. She never shed a tear in front of us, but I watched her crying silently in the solitude of her room.
I watched her screaming in pain whenever she faced her periods or heat.
She gathered herself bit by bit but shattered again whenever she had that nightmare.
I scoffed internally while watching Alexander staggering on his feet.
“Alex.” Hunter yelled in panic and held him by his arm to steady King Alexander, but King Alexander didn’t pay attention to him.
He was still staring at me with a blank gaze. “I didn’t come here to confront you, King Alexander, because that poor girl never blamed you, not even for a second. She sees you as a victim of Bernard’s scheme just like herself.”
I couldn’t even try to hide the taunt in my voice and why would I?
