Chapter 14 his interest in me
Amelia’s P.O.V. (Continued)
But there was nothing for me to hide from him. He wasn’t asking because he was concerned.
He was asking because he wanted to be sure of what he saw. “You know I am a werewolf, my king.” I asked him calmly.
“Yes, but it was you who told me that you were poisoned with a high concentration of wolfsbane, which cost you not only your wolf’s life but also your scent. There is a high possibility that you also lost your ability of healing because of that.” He replied immediately, calm, precise, and firm in his words.
My heart skipped a beat when I realized how correct his speculation was.
But his next statement left me speechless and confused.
“You are coming to the royal pack tomorrow. As your king, I need to prepare a medical team that can provide medical help to you if you need it.”
I didn’t know what to tell him now. Whether he was concerned about my injuries or setting a trap for me to fall, there is no way that I can tell him about my injuries.
“Whether you are a rogue or not, Amelia. You are my subject. Till now, you are not a threat to me. So tell me about your injuries.
I must admit that he is too convincing to not agree to his orders.
“My people were not immune to wolfsbane, and being a rogue is always a disadvantage for them when it comes to healing like a normal werewolf. So, I took most of the attacks to save them. My whole body has so many wounds that I didn’t let the doctor count them. I am healing, but my healing is equal to an average human.”
I didn’t know why I told him so much, but I did it.
There was silence on his side all the time when I spoke, and I waited for him to say something after I finished.
“If you need some more time to heal, we can postpone tomorrow’s meeting, Amelia.” He proposed in a serious tone.
“No, my king.” I immediately interrupted him in panic.
“I …. I must sound desperate, but yes, I am desperate to get your approval of forming a pack, my king. I want my people to be safe, especially the pups. They deserve to get a chance to live a good life, no… not like us, always on run, always under the fear of being caught or attacked.”
I was desperate to convince him not to postpone the meeting. I coughed and winced in pain when I suddenly raised my voice out of desperation.
“Don’t talk anymore.” He ordered sternly. I felt tears in my eyes, feeling pathetic, and useless.
“I am not cancelling the meeting, okay?” he spoke further. I took a deep breath of relief.
“Tell me where you can meet my team. They will pick you up and bring you to the royal pack.” I narrowed my eyes on his condition.
We both were silent for some moment. I was trying hard to read his mind, and he was waiting for me to reply to him.
“Why are you doing this, my king?” I asked him with a sigh in the end when I couldn’t understand whether he is now an alley or is still the biggest threat to our kind.
“Because you intrigued me in ways no she-wolf or woman did till now,” he replied bluntly, and my eyes widened in shock.
Is he flirting with me?
That was the most absurd thought that had ever crossed my mind.
Of course, it is absurd because he is the king, the one on the top of the pyramid, and I am a rogue, the one on the bottom of the pyramid.
“Amelia Marcus Locke, a self-made woman who rose from ruins, the best assassin with the highest swordsmanship without her wolf, running two successful businesses with her team leader, recruiting rogues with good skills, and providing them a stable life in the human world. Who are you, Amelia?”
I blinked, stunned by everything that he said, his voice sending a shiver to my spine, but at the same time, I felt something flickering in my belly.
If I wouldn’t have gone through so much that night, I might have blushed by his praise, but alas!
I took a deep breath and smiled faintly.
“I am looking forward to our meeting, Amelia. I also have a proposition for you, but this is something very personal. So, I hope that you will not anyone about this.” He added further in the same tone.
I was now intrigued by this personal proposition.
“I will not, my king.” I replied with assurance this time.
“Now tell me from where my people can pick you up, Amelia, and how many of you will come?” he asked me again, sounding calm and serious.
“I am trusting my safety with you, my king. It will only me and my assistant Arthur.” I told him calmly.
“You have a male assistant?” he asked me, sounding possessive, but it only made me roll my eyes.
He didn’t know my relationship with the people who saved me. So, he has no right to question it either.
“He is also the one who risked his own life to save me when he had no obligation to do that, my king. The wolfsbane coming out of the pore burned his skin, but he didn’t throw me away and endured that pain.” My voice once again trembled when those memories hit me again.
“Stop now, Amelia,” he growled, and I stopped speaking. He once again succeeded in letting my emotions burst out. Everything that I had bottled up and buried in the darkest corner of my heart threatened to come out at this very instant.
I was now breathing heavily. I was trying too hard to control my emotions, but King Alexander Thorne always made me lose my control over my emotions.
“Tell me where my team can get you,” he asked again but sounded angry this time.
“I will meet them at the Sunrise Cliff, my king. We will be there by 10 in the morning.” I told him the place that came to my mind first.
“I will be there.” He replied to me and hung up. I sighed, feeling exhausted. The way he hung up, I was clear that he was angry, but I didn’t know the reason of his anger.
I closed my eyes and decided to have a nap before I work on the proposal.
I knitted my brows in confusion when I registered his last words.
What did he mean by he will be there?
Is he coming to get me?
No way….. he is the king. He didn’t need to escort a rogue personally.
Heck, he didn’t need to escort anyone in the whole world.
I slowly opened my eyes when I heard a knock on the door. “The attack on the Light Ray Pack was a well-planned attack, Amelia.” Luca told me after entering the room.
“And it’s our mortal enemy who orchestrated it.” He added further and I grimaced.
